El-Viento is probably my favorite Renovation. Gaiares close second.

yeah i like El Viento the best of what I've played. Still a little on the rough side, but fun.

and no, none of those RazorSoft games are good, but they are completely special to play.

There was some controversial stuff, but the big thing was boobs in stormlord, iirc.

I guess they missed the part where you can shoot kids to death, who are playing outside of crack houses in Technocop. lol

^posted, but i can seriously watch that stuff over & over, it's quite well done

Oh yeah i'm late. You're right about being able to watch it over and over though. I think i've watched that, Crusader of Centy, and the Genesis music education video at least 6-7 times in a row.

Those Konami and MSX videos are pretty good too.

El Viento is probably my favorite too, yeah. Granada, Gaiares, and Arcus Odyssey are pretty good as well, and the Valis games are ... okay ..., but El Viento is better. It's kind of amazing how much better El Viento is than the fairly mediocre Earnest Evans...

lost X-Men 2: Clone Wars CIB by like a dollar, hate when that happens. why is it so hard to catch that one complete for sub $20? im guessing cause it was a late release, but still.

man, if you put up good pics, CIB genesis is catching more than i'd thought - missed Chakan & Altered Beast at like $13 each (thought they'd be sub 10 for sure), caught Populus at $8 and Super Hydlide for $13 though. same seller had Traysia ($30+, seriously?) and Budokan (i'm not going over $5 for this). even Turrican's taking over $15, i'm guessing for the nice insert. this is why i tend to buy from sellers with stock photos who verify they have CIB these days.

another guy offered $10 for CIB Jewel Master + loose Exile & Kid Chameleon, thinking bout that one even though i do like complete clamshells these days.

Mzo, you ever hear back from anybody about an S-Video mod for a 32x?

I'm thinking of contacting Oghugo again and having him do it. I think I just bought the last 32x game that I really want so there's really no reason for me to wait anymore.

Nope! Now that I check the thread it's at 200 views and not a single reply, haha. I've been busy doing something stupid lately so I haven't been asking around. I'll contact some people tomorrow.

No sweat. Lemme know.

Decided to pop "Rock Paintings" into my Sega CD for the first time ever. So that's what a CD+G is.

The Information Society slides provided an unexpected and inexplicable laugh, so I can't say it was entirely a waste of 30 minutes.

Oh man, haven't looked at that thing in ages. Some memories of Christmas 92 right there (Sega Cd was one of the few that was gifted to me rather then me buying for myself...the others being OG Xbox, SMS, Atari 2600, N64, and SNES). The Virtual VCR disc with the 6 music videos on it (mail away that came later), and the Sub-pop sampler disc were a hoot as well.

If you want to watch a short Streets of Rage retrospective, here's one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yer10OkY6Iw
Nice, gonna have to check this out fully over the weekend.

Had lots of fun with Arcus Odyssey back in the day with one of my buds. Don't remember if we ever managed to finish it tho. Never got to play Granada, so I've been on the hunt for a copy. Missed out on a JPN CIB one not too long ago. Still kicking myself. =(

Yeah, I've been on the lookout for a CIB copy, too. Have cart-only for the time being. I really like the character sprites in the game, even more so than those in Capcom's X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse.

Just got in a shipment of box protectors from http://www.videogameboxprotectors.com/ . I got them for my cardboard games, so that I didn't have to baby those demonspawn boxes so much. I really like them. The plastic seems pretty sturdy and they even make the games look a bit nicer to boot, I think. Impressed enough that I might do another order in the near future for some of my more rare games

If anybody else is thinking about doing that though, I should mention that the Genesis cardboard snug fit boxes are going to be too small for Sonic and Knuckles. I was able to hack apart one of the boxes and mod it just enough to fit using some shipping tape, but it looks like the current recommendation is to use a SNES box.

Is there a good list of Genesis to Sega CD ports that are worthwhile, or even just a good resource for cross-comparisons all in one place?

Earthworm Jim is the only one that really jumps to mind. I guess Lethal Enforcers, but the game is still really meh. I think the Golden Axe on the Sega 5-in-1 has better music too. All that comes to mind

MY BRAIN

Earnest Evans (J only)
Earthworm Jim Special Edition
Ecco the Dolphin CD
Ecco: The Tides of Time CD
Eternal Champions: Challenge From the Darkside (more of a sequel, really)
Flashback: The Quest for Identity
Heart of the Alien: Out of This World Parts 1 and 2
Lethal Enforcers
Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters
Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse
Mortal Kombat
NBA Jam
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Prince of Persia (need to play the Genesis one to see if it's the same version)
Puggsy
Sol-Feace (Genesis Sol-Deace might be the port in this case...)

That's all I can think up.

edit: Forgot Spider-Man vs. the Kingpin. For shame.

Are you asking if any games were better on Sega CD than on Genesis?
Or are you asking for which games are good that happen to be ports?

If it's the former, then Mzo's got you covered.

If it's the latter, then Gunstarheroes is definitely right about Earthworm Jim. That clearly leads the pack. The version of Out of this World / Another World that's included with Heart of the Alien is also very good. Heart of the Alien is also the sequel and is exclusive to the Sega CD, but I've heard that game isn't so great.

so, i went with some friends to a con today to support my buddy (local UFC fighter signing autographs) and of course there's some resellers, right? one table had some loose genny carts, a number of which were repros - Battle Mania and some interesting stuff, too much Mario 2 and silly shit. dude wanted $20 across the board for repros, i asked if he had Alien Soldier, Yu Yu or any Treasure stuff, and got offered Mario 2 again, then a loose Alex Kidd in Enchanted Castle for $10, haha. bought Tekken 3 and a loose PSX copy of Mega Man 8.

next table killed me - a stack of Sega-CD games CIB! but the prices sucked hard: C&C Music Factory for $35, manual-less Ground Zero Texas for $30, and of course one good condition Earthworm Jim special edition for $80. i bought nothing, but sent my buddy's brother to hit him up at closing time, right? he just texted me to say he swung it for "$63.25, and yes dude wanted that quarter". doesn't feel like a bad price!

63 isn't bad. Makes that copy i got for 35 taste all the sweeter though. Pax East has been good to me.

Yeah, it's rough, but it's definitely doable though.

I remember hearing the Euro version was even more hardcore with a more punitive continue system. Is that true?

That feel when you lose an auction that you bid $20 more then one that sold yesterday just to make sure you get it.
I'll get you next time Vay

I'l looking at the following:

Shinobi 3
Strider
Gunstar Heroes

Comix Zone
Streets of Rage 2

Any other titles you guys would recommend to an action game fan?

Ristar, Mega Turrican, Thunder Force IV/Lightening Force, and Vectorman, for a few starters. Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles if you've somehow missed those.

Pfft. Just get the PS1 version.

NO
PS1 is mad expensive (physical) and genesis is a great port which you will respect
it's also properly labeled~

still want a good deal on an Alien Soldier repro one day...is Splatterhouse 2 pricey, or is it 3 i'm thinking of? cause if we're talkin repros you should get MUSHA, Crusader of Centy and Punisher (if you cant find a good deal on it) with a quickness
