Raided my parents basement again...here is some more Genesis stuff...

ADKlGvB.jpg

Unfortunately I am missing so much more of it that I am pretty depressed over it, including the Sega CD front loader that is no longer in its original box. Boxed games such as El Viento, Valis, Zero Tolerance, Thunder Force III and original run copies of Rev of Shinobi and Golden Axe are also no where to be found. Oh well, MUSHA survived. Hehe

Very sad my Intellivision collection which I have had since a kid 30 plus years ago is utterly destroyed due to a past flood. Dracula made it for whatever reason...

So, this is my video review of Panic!. A couple quick things to address:

1. I'm aware of the bit of audio imbalance between segments when im on camera, and when were using game footage. This is really just an issue of working with what i have, but i have a pretty nice lav mic on order to fix that problem

2. I do try mixing a bit of a comedic approach with this one, as oppose to my more straight-forward, dry videos on Eternal Champions and the 32x Arcade Classics. This game does lend itself well to this, but i am looking for serious feedback if you prefer your videos more informative, though i try to do a good balance here

Otherwise, hopefully you guyscan leave any other feedback you might think could help in the future, and hopefully you guys seek the game out. Its certainly one of the cooler Sega CD games i own

Does anyone know of a list of region locked Pal megadrive games?

I bought Toe Jam & Earl, thinking it was the original but it was the sequel and bizarrely its region locked, refusing to work when my PAL megadrive is set to 60hz.

I think it's everything after a certain year, but don't quote me on that.

I recently bought Pagemaster for a fiver and I have to boot it up in PAL, then switch to NTSC at the title screen, otherwise it locks up, after that it runs fine though.

16-bit dat Nomad!!! :O
Didn't even know that's possible outside of having a white one!

And womp, what difference is there with original run Moonwalker and Golden Axe. I have the later, but notice when you beat Death Adder, the Golden Axe glitches into a mess, at least on my copy. Wonder if it was fixed in later revisions.

SuperFighterTeam is publishing more stuff on Genesis next year. I assume everyone knows Magic Girl. Cascade was new to me.

Passing on both of these. Bottom of the barrel.

Hello!

Here is the latest news from Super Fighter Team:

CASCADE and MAGIC GIRL are coming to the Genesis / Mega Drive!

Is your favorite 16-bit game system shaking in nervous anticipation? Ah, well that must be because we've got two great new games waiting to fill its slot!

CASCADE is a dice-based puzzler set in space, where your skill will be judged by wacky aliens.

MAGIC GIRL is a vertical shooter that puts you in the role of a young girl fighting to save her entire planet from certain doom.

Both games are now available for pre-order for only $40 each, from their respective websites...

http://www.playcascade.com/

http://www.magicgirlgame.com/

CASCADE was developed by Epyx, and initially slated for release only in Japan. This never before seen game will amuse you with its quirky aliens that welcome you with silly spoken lines such as, "Oh no, a human!" and "May the dice be with you." It also features a competetive two player mode.

MAGIC GIRL was developed by Gamtec in Taiwan. In addition to translating the game into English, we at Super Fighter Team have also fixed a few bugs that plagued the Chinese original.

Super Fighter Team: Since 2004, we've been living our dream of producing new,
high-quality games for classic game systems. With your support we've been
able to launch seven successful commercial products, and release four games
as free downloads. And we'll keep going for as long as we can.

Thank you for joining us on our adventure.

Man, hard drivin is something.

awful music, awful noise, and 3 fps game play. It was $1 and had a Ferrari on it though.

I was crazy about Hard Drivin'. I loved it to death, and swore up and down that it was supremely playable when discussing it with folks years after the fact. Then I fired it up one time and couldn't figure out how I'd ever like it at all.

Game was a mess.

One game I would love to see a current gen sequel for is the classic Eternal Champions fighting game. This was one of my Megadrive favourites, together with Samurai Showdown and SF II Special Championship Edition. As good as the controllers were with their 6-button lay-out, I bought a Fighter Stick-MD 6 to play my fighting games to emulate the feel of the arcade. I still have have them somewhere, and might consider switching it on once or twice for some retro gaming..

You and me both man. Much as i love Virtua Fighter, it was sad Sega Of Japan used that to axe the franchise, even if their spin-off games were garbage.

I've heard a lot of conflicting opinions on Eternal Champions. The majority seem pretty negative though, I think. Still, I'm pretty curious about it. I should get it sometime I guess, since it's pretty cheap.

There were a lot of crappy fighting games released around that era. Street Fighter II is one of the few ones that actually hold up. I think Eternal Champions probably compares favorably to most of the shit of that era, but it still is not that great.

I recently bought Pagemaster for a fiver and I have to boot it up in PAL, then switch to NTSC at the title screen, otherwise it locks up, after that it runs fine though.

Well I did some research, the Toe Jam & Earl Panic in Funkotron I have requires the machine to be set to 50hz to boot, however switching to 60hz after that doesn't work as apparently it uses some weird ass pal resolution and will not sync when set to 60hz so that one is Pal 50hz only.

Looking into it, like you say most games after 93, some in the black cases and most of those in the newer blue cases have some sort of region locking to pal, most it seems you can switch to 60hz after it boots but some wil not work properly, ie, they are optimized for PAL, stuff like Alien Soldier, Comix Zone

Some games also check every 30seconds for Pal timings and will return to the menu if it detects 60hz, like shinobi 3, SWIV.

Some games run in the standard shitty 50hz but have the music sped up to compensate, ie Hellfire, Sonic 3.

I did come across quite an exhaustative list of what games work and what ones don't lastnight, but the page doesn't seem to be in my history, otheriwse I would link to it.

Man this whole region locking BS really pees me off, I just bought a Pal copy of Sonic 3 and I've wasted my money, sure am glad I didn't stump up the big money for PAL copies of Contra Hard Corps, Mega Turrican etc, think the way to go here if you own a modified PAL machine and intend to play in 60hz is to buy the Genesis or Japanese versio, and avoid PAL entirely, though the early stuff works fine.

If you do get Eternal Champions, get the Sega CD sequel -- it's improved over the Genesis original. Both games are way too hard to be fun, though, unless you're really dedicated...

Yeah if you're gonna play it, play it with a friend. The AI is just straight up nonsense.

Also, it's incredibly gory.

At least, the Sega CD game is. Genesis one may or may not be, dunno. But those stage fatalities, like the one where a character falls like a few hundred feet down, getting sliced up by sawblades and shit, rendering them a mere pile of organs by the time they hit the bottom... blegh.

But, y'know, random violence was hip as hell at that point in time, so it's something of a positive if you're into that early '90s video game gore thing.

The Genesis game doesn't have anywhere near as much blood and gore as the Sega CD game, I don't think... and all of the FMV kills are added as well, of course.

The premise and characters have a certain charm to them.

The game is straight-up ass, though.
That's a bit harsh, I think. I mean, the games were successful for a reason, and not only because it was a popular kind of game then. The graphics are decent, gameplay is okay in multiplayer... it's not exactly good, sure, but if not for the horribly unfair AI, I think it could have been an okay series.

Yeah, I'm not dedicated enough to get anywhere in it...

still trying to find EC dark side/whatever CD for $10 or less, picked up Panic! & Wirehead for $20 each today so that was cool. since Popful Mail, Space Adventure Cobra & even Heart of the Alien are out of my current budget, i'm mostly hoping to catch someone slipping on Robo Aleste, it seems to go for $40 at the moment.

Robo Aleste is flipping great, not MUSHA great, but damn good in the way they compliment each other. I opened mine up the other day and I even have that protective foam in there still, I must have sent my warranty card in however...it is cut out. :D

I used to love sending those in, always got some neat stuff from these companies in return...especially on the NEC/TG16 side. Such good times.

aw man, i'd send those things in & be lucky if i got a flyer...used to keep those too, also lost in a storm with my classic gaming mags. what't eh best thing you've gotten from them? i used to have some nice Mana/Super Metroid etc promo pages sent to me from Nintnedo, Sega it was basically either issues of Visions or the occasional map from calling 1-800-USA-SEGA, i still have the nice PS1 printout they made years back.

*edit UGH since my Gunstar Heroes looks like shit after removing some rental labels & i'm missing the manual anyway, i went looking for a CIB copy...when the fuck did that one shoot up?

Locally, I paid $6 for complete Wirehead in 2011 and as for Robo Aleste... well, that was part of an incredibly lucky find I got in mid 2010 -- $25 total for complete Robo Aleste, Android Assault, Silpheed, Chuck Rock 2, and The Adventures of Batman & Robin for Sega CD, plus loose discs of Chuck Rock 1 and Spiderman vs The Kingpin (SCD versions), and a loose, partially-torn-label copy of Crusader of Centy too.

Yeah, back in the days before local sellers mostly started pricing everything by what things sell for on ebay...

It has been at around $59 for a cib version from resellers for a while, while lower from other people. Seems that price caught on all around now though. Really though I don't expect anything different. Been keeping an eye on some genesis, cd, and saturn games for a while now and stuff doesn't go down. There are few enough copies of any of the better games being sold on ebay that any that are going lower end up getting pushed up at the end by someone with a ton of rep.

Sega market has finally caught up with everyone else recently. I'm kind of glad i got a lot of the expensive stuff out of the way already.

Kind of kick myself for selling off my Lunars, Popful Mail and Snatcher 15 years ago.... But I needed the money for some car work. Even then they commanded some decent return at least.

I remember buying Snatcher at Electronics Boutique at the time and it being the only copy they had in stock.

I may end up selling off some of my Genesis collection at some point just because it isn't a focus of my current collecting habits. I've always been more of a handhelds kind of guy and I could use the funds to acquire things I am much more interested in having there.
