There are coupon codes? Let me know - I'm on the verge of ordering the JPN version myself.
I didn't know there were coupon codes, either. It comes to ~$100AU (thankfully shipping is included, I think) but if it were brought down a little more in price, I'd be inclined to nab the base edition.

Does anyone have any of the coupon codes that are still valid?
There are. This is the one I used: 9850444

I have no idea if it still works, though. The code belongs to someone on another forum and each time the code is used they get some Gems or something. As far as I know they're all the same and they're all worth 10% off.

Of course we don't know how the game will ultimately turn out but I highly doubt it will be a disaster like Unholy Knight. Pier Solar may not be everybody's cup of tea and it has its flaws but it oozes quality and attention to detail. I fully expect Paprium to be similar to that at least.
isn't there a place to buy pier solar still?
edit: crap! you need a non TMSS model 1 to play, i picked one up but that'll narrow the list for those who can play it.
It's the other way around. Non-TMSS models have the problem, so most systems aren't affected. They can still play the game though, you have to press reset after powering on the system.

Watermelon makes good games so I have faith. Also, now that I'm no longer living the graduate student life I feel like I have a moral obligation to buy every new Sega Genesis game.

There's like a massive difference between making an RPG and making a beat-em-up. The fact that they don't even show extended gameplay in the trailer and instead use quick cuts and zooms in rather concerning, lol.

True, but according to people working on Pier Solar Fonzie is actually more of a Beat 'em Up fan than an RPG fan. So if anything I expect an even better product. I think the reason for the quick cuts is the developer's dislike for too much exposure of their game before it's finished.

Bruh I'm not tryna pay for potential and wind up with an Unholy Night situation.

Good point. As much as I want that game because it's a snes cart in 2017 I just can't do it.

Everything I've read from and about this Fonzie guy is he's old school through and through. He doesn't want games spoiled ahead of time and he longs for the days when games would get a few screenshots in a magazine and then dead air for a year. People are frequently frustrated with him because of this.

The art and music already have me hooked. Even the case is 10/10 so as long as the gameplay is decent I'll Enjoy my purchase.

But that looked like garbage from jump.

I don't usually order unlicensed games but I'm a big fan of the genre and the music and graphics look solid. Pier Solar was okay so at worst I expect this to be average or better. Then again, this could be another Ghost Blade - good graphics and music but uninspired gameplay - and I've been burned before, but damn that MD + mohawk hype.

I received Ranger X last week, and gave it a try last night.

I don't know why the colors in the photo came out so weird.

Anyways, the game is rather short - a lot shorter than I expected. There are only about six levels, and none are terribly long. The game certainly is pretty to look at, but it is very short, the music isn't memorable, and the game isn't very difficult. I died a couple of times while getting used to the game, but once I got the hang of it I was able to get through the entire game in less than an hour.

it's how i grew up, and frankly having to reset Pier Solar isn't that hard, as long as i beat it before all that resetting kills the battery i guess

I like to think of myself as a Hiro Onoda fighting for Sega until Yuji Naka tells me it's okay to stop.

SNES is fine but the Genesis is clearly the better system

...man, if you ever make it out to miami, i owe you a drink

Yeah, it is a lovely effect. This level was also impressive:

I don't know what you call that rotating effect, but it sure looked great. As for that boss shown, it was difficult to determine what I was supposed to be shooting as the game didn't do a good job of letting me know when I shot a vulnerable area.

But those bosses sure are pretty to look at.

I don't drink but if I ever find myself down there I'll let you know for sure.

I have been lurking the retro threads a long time but finally caught up on this one.

blast processed - jealous you're playing Lunar for the first time. I may ignore my backlog and load it up tonight!

Laevateinn - you're my new favorite person on here.

Play it on Heavy and get the secret shield weapon.

Ordered Ranger X. In the meantime, I'm playing Landstalker. It's a great game but some of the puzzles are pretty nasty and there's quite a bit of slowdown. It's a good transition between Shining games since I just beat the first one for the millionth time.

wow that shit would not have flown in the US.

Ranger X is surprisingly difficult to come by in Europe. I'm not gonna pay €60 for a BiN auction, so I guess I'll have to wait until the one auction ends on my watch list. I may pass this month if the price gets too high, though.

I finished Landstalker for the first time ever. The last time I played I gave up in the Lake Shrine. It's a great game that must be played with minimal input lag. The isometric perspective might be a deal breaker but it doesn't take too much to get used to. Some of the platforming is rough though.

Bonus points if you recognize this hell.

While I wait for Ranger X to arrive, I've moved on to Shining Force 2.

Shining force 2 is my favorite sega genesis game.

For me to say something is my favorite is very telling.

I have so much history with that game.

Played on the sega channel and rented it as a kid.

When my favorite game renting place was going out of business they had 2 or 3 copes of the the game for sale. When I bought it I ended up with the copy that had I played all these years as a kid 12 years later because my old save file was still on the game.......till there was a error and deleted my save file.

I had Shining Force 1 but my mom would never buy Shining Force 2 for me because the price was too high. I ended up renting it several times instead and could never get too far because of that. It wasn't until college that I was able to buy a copy for myself although I did play it through other means throughout high school.

Sucks abut your save. I can't remember having that happen as a kid but it seems to happen sometimes nowadays. It's especially a problem for me on my SNES.

I was soooo fucking pissed.

It survived all these years and then one day I got that surprise counter attack music that said my data messed up I was like wtf. My heart sank too.

I mean ive started the game anew countless times on the sega channel when I had it and when I rented it the few times I had it. I'm just trying to figure out what the hell happened to trigger my save to delete.

My friends data didn't get deleted. I'm trying to figure out why.

Most of the time, if you can save afterwards, it was a transient electrical issue. On my SNES, the cartridge slot has expanded and if the system is bumped at all the saves get erased.
