yeah, that happened to my FFIII savesOn my SNES, the cartridge slot has expanded and if the system is bumped at all the saves get erased.

Damn, awesome collection!
Regarding the original Wondermega, there was a Sega branded one before Victor started making them them, right?
Most of the time, if you can save afterwards, it was a transient electrical issue. On my SNES, the cartridge slot has expanded and if the system is bumped at all the saves get erased.
I don't know whether it was before or at the same time, but yes, there is a Sega version of the hardware. As far as I know they were released together.
Has anyone here used the Hyperkin GN6 controller with their Genny/MD? I'm contemplating getting one given my OG 6-button is starting to get a little flaky and squishy.
Sub-question: Does the USB version of this controller feel just as good as the one with the 9-pin connector?

They should be pretty easy to come buy, I'm getting one delivered from a local seller (in Australia) for ~$25AU. I'm sure there'd be someone in Canada selling them locally too.I'd be interested in hearing impressions on this one too, it certainly looks like it could be a good option for me, since shipping anything to Canada off of eBay adds about $15 to a purchase.

Obviously won't be able to compare it to a brand new genuine controller, but I'll do my best to compare it to the well-loved one I already have.
i posted some news on retroGAF (not sure if it's old news) but here's the megadrive being reproduced:

These can't be exact clones, right? I would assume that sourcing original model chips is out of the question. So I have to assume that these are system-on-a-chip consoles.
Edit: Yup, it's an emulator box with composite only. No thanks. A pristine case is nice, but the guts leave much to be desired.

That price can't be right, it equates to almost $200AUD!yeah, it's like a nes mini. it was presented to Tsurumi Naoya, Executive Vice President of Sega Sammy Holdings as a gift.
There are 2 super moves, a standing and a dashing one. The standing one doesn't make you lose health if you don't hit an enemy while the dashing one does no matter if it hits an enemy or not. You can't get extra continues either. In Streets of Rage 2, how does the super move work, why does it sometimes burn health and sometimes doesn't, and what do the two iterations of it mean. One is a catch all move and the other one is weaker.
How many points do I need to get to get an extra life/continue
Hey Genesis Gaf I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have two 32X and both have this issue were they will only display the bottom bar for Doom and have a black screen for the game play, and only fire and other background graphics for Spider-man Web of Fire. The other 32X games I have suffer from the same problem. I thought my original 32X was bad so I bought a second one only to have the same issues as the first. I also tried a new Genesis to 32X cable but still have the problem. I can play 16 bit games through both 32X's no problem. Is it possible that I need to get another Genesis?
The 32x works by having the Genesis process and display the backgrounds and the 32x process and display the more complicated things. If you don't have or if there is something wrong with the link cable between the Genesis and the 32x, this is what will happen.
Could it be a problem with the power supply to the 32X? Does the 32X need to be powered for it to act as a pass-through for Genesis games?
I loved shadow dancer when I played it on sega channel.
Years later I bought it
I like this game over revenge of shinobi which I do indeed dislike on a visually level.
There is something about early sega genesis games I just do not visually maybe is the color palette used. I like my games colorful and not rough looking
It probably comes down to three things: tools and understanding. The developers back then had a good understanding of the 68k. They had been using it for a while. But they probably weren't experts at the special tricks that could really let the Genesis excel. Specifically, it probably had to do with DMA.
With an understanding of DMA, a developer could get the processor to blast data into memory in between scan lines. This would let them do things like dynamically adjust the palette or do weird things with the memory. This was the Mega Drive's secret weapon and the biggest reason it was able to remain competitive for so long.
I've never played Shadow Dancer though so I'm just talking in general.
February 1991 VG&CE reviews of Shadow Dancer, Burning Force and Arrow Flash.

I finished Landstalker for the first time ever. The last time I played I gave up in the Lake Shrine. It's a great game that must be played with minimal input lag. The isometric perspective might be a deal breaker but it doesn't take too much to get used to. Some of the platforming is rough though.
Did a bit of a video of all the hardware I've collected for Generation 16. Be patient with any factual issues, I did this one off the cuff.

So I didn't get an extensive go at the controller because my PVM was crapping out for some reason, but from what I used the controller feels like how I imagine a NIB OG 6-button would feel. D-pad and buttons are a little stiffer than my well-loved OG, fireballs in SF2SCE were a breeze to pull off.Looking forward to your impressions! And yeah, I can get one of the Hyperkin controllers for around $17 CAD, whereas a used OEM Sega controller would be around $40 CAD once factoring in shipping.
hi can anyone school me on Shining Force? there's a cart Sega CD version.
there's part II... i see the series on other systems. i already picked up the dungeon crawler one a few weeks ago. Shining in the darkness.
which are the ones to get? the carts?
You called?
Sega in the 80s an 90s had two RPG pillars: Shining and Phantasy Star. While Phantasy Star was more of a traditional RPG, Shining had a lot more variety.
Shining Force is obviously the most famous and popular subseries but as you're aware the series fit into a few different RPG subgenres. Shining in the Darkness and Shining the Holy Ark are 3D first person dungeon crawlers. While Shining in the Darkness is just okay -- it was the beginning of the series -- Shining the Holy Ark is pretty great.
Shining Force came after Shining in the Darkness and is somewhat of a sequel to it. The main bad guy in Shining Force is related to the bad guy in Shining in the Darkness. It's a tactical game and while it gets compared to Fire Emblem they are very different. The creator of the Shining series actually disliked Fire Emblem and was going for more of a Dragon Quest feel.
Shining Force Gaiden is the Game Gear series. All of them progress the story of the first game to some extent especially the Japan only Gaiden 3 which is a bridge between Shining Force 1 and 2. Shining Force Gaiden 1 and 2 were remade with Redbook Audio and updated graphics as Shining Force CD which has a fun secret quest added. I don't like these games as much because there's no exploration and NPCs.
Shining Force 2 is a pretty massive game. It is bright, has great artwork and a wonderful soundtrack. While most Shining Force games have 30 battles, Shining Force 2 has 44. Shining Force 2 also allows free exploration of the world rather than being divided into self-contained chapters. This lets you do a few of the battles out of order and a lot more secrets. This is a lot of people's favorites but I feel like a lot of the battles could be cut and that there are too many recruitable characters that don't do enough to differentiate themselves.
On the Saturn, there's 3 or 6 (depending on how you look at things) Shining titles.
The first is Shining Wisdom. This is nothing more than a decent Zelda clone. It doesn't get a lot of love but, if you have a controller with auto-fire, I recommend it. If you like Magic Knight Rayearth, you'll like this too.
Shining the Holy Ark is a must have. It has excellent 3D for the Saturn, a great battle system and provides much needed backstory for Shining Force 3.
Shining Force 3 is my favorite game ever. When it came out, I came down with a mysterious illness for a week and played it non-stop. Shining Force 3 is another tactical game that adds several great features. My favorite is the friendship system where characters that work together will give each other stat bonuses whenever they are near each other provided you do not let them die.
Shining Force 3 is really 3 and a half games. It tells the story of a massive war that consumes the continent. Around the time of Shining the Holy Ark, several precincts of a massive continental empire rebelled due to massive inequality and attempted to form a democratic society that distributed the wealth more equitably. As time went on, the people in parts of this breakaway country became stressed due to a poor climate and harvest and started to have unrest which gave the empire an opportunity to swoop in and attempt to reclaim their lost territory. In Shining Force 3 Scenario 1, you control a small army that is escorting the King of the Republic to safety. In Scenario 2, you control the prince of the Empire as he attempts to find out what happened to his father and what caused the fighting. And in Scenario 3, you play as an extremely minor NPC from Shining the Holy Ark who, now grown up, is leading the fight against the cult that is behind everything.
Everything released after Shining Force 3 is shit. Some of it is okay but don't bother. It's not made by the same people. Sega burnt those bridges.
You might also be interested in Landstalker. Landstalker is an isometric action RPG for the Genesis which was made by the designers and programmers of Shining Force 1 with music by the guy who did Shining Force 2.

The plug where it connects to the 9-pin on the console even has the same raised bump on it that the original 6-button has, so I'd almost say they've reverse engineered the pad to the point of duplicating the mold off the original.
I might pull them both apart and have a look, just to compare. I'd even take a guess and say that the parts are interchangeable.
Do it. Despite my lack of decent time on it, truth is that with your eyes closed, you'd swear it was an OG one (if you didn't use them back-to-back).Sold. Will order one this week.
