I've always hard MOM was supposed to be pretty decent but never bothered to check it out. Stupid reasoning but the awful title screen art was my 1st impression as a kid and it just looked stupid. What's the verdict?

Quick question. The video output on my Mega Drive seems to be on the way out. It'll occasionally flicker to a black screen for a few seconds and come back, or flicker to a black and white picture before going back to normal again after maybe 30 seconds, it differs.

Is replacing the AV cable going to sort out this problem, or is it more likely to be an internal problem better solved by replacing the console itself?

I had this idea that I'd try hooking it up to my PC monitor (which has composite in) just to see whether it's the TV. I'd heard about many LCDs having issues displaying proper 240p content. Plugged it into the monitor, and was able to go through Sonic 2 up until Aquatic Ruin Zone with no issues, so it appears it's probably the TV. Annoying that it won't work on my main TV reliably, but at least I know the console itself isn't dead. :D

its really awesome strategy game its like a mix of heroes of might and magic, magic the gathering and pokemon should give it a go if your into these types of games its really fun

Earnest Evans is worth experiencing...
As a game it's pretty terrible but Wolf Team went all out with its design. Earnest himself is comprised of multiple segments, like a 16-bit boss. This makes him a nightmare to control.

The level-design is all over the place. There are numerous power-ups that are only found once like Indy's fedora, which gives Earnest a temporary flame-whip.

I forgot that I have 50+ legal Genesis games on my PC, so I've been playing Light Crusader lately. I can't understand why.

Since I've moved back to the Orlando area, I'm going to visit Play & Trade and see what they've got. For some reason I can't bring myself to quit the Genesis, despite selling off almost the entirety of my collection over the past couple years.

Well, you're implying it's a guilty pleasure, so there's that.

I never thought Light Crusader was all that bad, honestly. Not great, but not bad.

If it's anything, I'm enjoying my current play-through.
About to enter the last stretch of the game.

I guess there's something to say about "comfort games".

Yeah. There are some games that I don't think are especially good, but because I had them while I grew up, still are fun to play to me, like Goofy's Hysterical History Tour or Asterix and the Great Rescue. Both incredibly hard, and kinda cheap or poorly-designed in places, but I still like them even still.

Found this today, looks brand new, if not very close to it!

Seems like a better way to be able to play the few Master System games I want to play, rather than going out and buying a separate system. Such a cool peripheral.

Sick. Those go for quite a bit, I haven't come across it yet.

Ironically it'd have to have been more powerful than the Genesis itself; more colorful, anyway.

Yeah, that's probably why they didn't; because it'd have to have more colors than the Genesis, it'd basically need to be a consolized Game Gear, and might even need its own video output and stuff... maybe they could have done one for 32X though? :D

An add-on for an add-on

Add-onception

Kinda doubt it, though; the 32X cuts off all access to the Master System circuitry, which the Game Gear could make good use of.

I know Musha is rare nowadays, but this is ridiculous:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Genesi...6459?pt=DE_PC_Videospiele&hash=item1c332c9e7b

Like new, only US$ 13,000.00. What a bargain.

Loose cart via bidding went for just over 70 bucks recently. I don't get where people think they can get away with these prices. I messaged both the buy now sellers on eBay peddling over priced loose copies and neither budged and another didn't have much comprehension of English.

repros of MUSHA are getting more common and having seen em, i'd have a hard time telling them from originals when the label's done right & assuming they got the right original cart involved (i think mine says accolade or activision or some shit, haha

I assume Genesis repros are the same as NES/SNES, so can be easily ID'd by opening them and looking for wires? Doesn't help before a purchase, of course.

Okay, nobody is paying $13k for an opened, uncommon (somewhat rare), but not super rare, Genesis game right? That's madness... right?

i'm assuming that's correct, yeah...but as you said, no good for online auctions. then again, paypal's so buyer-friendly these days maybe it's not so bad, since you can easily demand a refund these days.

man the price for sealed stuff on amazon - and the willingness of collectors to go balls-deep for that stuff - i honestly can't say, it's possible.

again, few weeks back we saw a repro of Seiken Densetsu 3/Secret of Mana 2 clear $300 on an auction. shit's crazy.

Well it was Star Ocean, but still point stands. I cant see why anyone would do that when...if you REALLY wanted one, just pay a repro site, or ask someone who knows how. I mean if you know enough about retro games to know repros exist, you should know not to pay so much for em.

exactly...i can only assume the winner (heh) didn't know it was a repro, thought it was some kinda super rare game no one else got/prototype or something? i should check that auction again; it's possible the seller did the right thing & said it was a repro and not everyone knows what that is somehow.

it's still that man's money to waste, but having picked up those nice repros on the cheap from nintendoage, i'd feel like shit reselling someone else's work at such a high mark like that...feels like selling fansubbed anime. of course, none of this is nearly as douchey as the ones who don't mark their shit as repro in the auction, haha

Yeah I asked the seller and they said it was a repro, so at least they werent trying to be shady...but then again like you said, whoever won or even pushed the bid up that high...wow.

That was likely me. I think I made out alright.

Yeah. I had it on my watch list but had a few beers and forgot about it. Good pickup!

How much did you pay and what would be a 'realistic' price to sell it for if I decided to put my CIB copy of MUSHA up for sale?

$350 seems a bit ridiculous? LOL

What are some of the other 'hot games' these days? I had a pretty niche taste back in the day so I have some pretty obscure crap...Like El Viento, Phelios, Fire Shark...loved Renovation's stuff.

I'm more interested in collecting Gameboy and NES stuff these days so I wouldn't mind possibly unloading my launch era Genesis cart collection for some collecting money.

Amazon.ca had a CIB copy that was described as mint go for 300 recently... Unfortunately, I'd say that's probably a fair price.

I thought Sonic 3 was pretty unpopular? Never played much of it so I don't have much of an opinion. Just thought people didn't like it as much as part 2 for some reason.
I believe the general public likes Sonic 2 more, and the more vocal fanbase likes 3&K more.

I'm in the CD = 3&K > 2 > 1 camp, myself.

Just got these three in the mail. All complete and in great condition. The start to my new Genesis collection! God damn, I LOVE the cases for Genesis games. Still waiting on my Genesis (Model 2) to arrive in the mail though. Can't wait to start playing these games again. Oh, and I'm going to do a series on YouTube for Dynamite Headdy. I'm basically going to record every attempt/playthrough I make of the game until I legitimately beat it, lol! Should be interesting (and take me quite a while to do!)

Regardless, it doesn't have this, and is therefore inferior to CD (it's exactly what you think it's going to be): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPC8W672mXc

Sonic CD is on my immediate pick up list once I'm reunited with my Sega CD. I have all the other Genesis Sonic games in various quantities. I really like the original, it's the only one I've beat which I accomplished a few weeks ago. I've put in significantly more time with Sonic 2 than any of the others after the original but I may reformulate my opinion once I reunite my collection. I really like Sonic & Knuckles and have a complete mint copy in storage but I haven't put as much time as I would have liked into that one.

Nice pickups! Welcome! Contra is solid, oddly I haven't played the other two games yet!

All 3 are amazing high action games.

Also in honor of Lost World, we need to do a Sonic series playthrough or something. And everyone knows Sonic 1 is better than 2.

That is absolutely insane....I just coughed it up to eBay 'L@@K RARE!' markup.

I could undercut that price easily just to be sure it gets a good home and yet allows me to further my collecting, since that is what the cash would be for.

Yeah. I remember seeing a loose cart at a flea market in decent shape a few years ago when I was in between collecting Genesis and focusing on my Undergrad (ie: drinking). I simply said to myself "huh, that's the rarest Genesis game... not bad" and I didn't buy it. Don't know what I was thinking... I bought a lot of stuff from that particular seller over the years... including one of Genesis units, Sega CD and Saturn. I am not too into collecting loose games, but I should have made an exception on that one considering that's the only time I've seen it in the wild. Box art is one of the best parts of collecting Genesis titles.

Personally, my limits would be around 150 complete and 80 loose so I might have to wait a while to find it in the wild or get lucky on eBay.

Sonic 3 on its own is mildly disappointing, as is S&K maybe even more so, but S3&K combined is a fantastic game that's just about as good as Sonic 2, and is better than the first game. Sonic CD is great too, but I don't like it quite as much as 2 or 3&K... though all four of them (1, 2, CD, 3&K) are fantastic, fantastic games.
