Slitterhead | Review Thread

I'm also surprised how much I'm enjoying it.

Not much time to play these days, but the first few missions have been an absolute blast. Not to mention that the slitterheads are not nearly as tanky as I thought.

The presentation is quite inconsistent, unfortunately. But nothing dealbreaking.

Tiddies outta nowhere. Nice.

Cool game. I’m off by a millisecond with my parries. Driving me nuts. Gonna hook up the Xbox to my pc monitor and see if that helps.

Walked past a door in a brothel at one point and some of the ambient dialogue was pretty hilarious. "Come on let me put it in behind." "You are always pushing for that, do I need to get the manager?"
Game oozes that classic Japanese charm. Was laughing my ass off when I jumped off a building and transferred to another host before SPLAT. All the NPCs screaming.. lmfao

It is definitely a little jank, but I was having a lot of fun with this. You keep getting new abilities the whole time I played too. It gets even funnier what you can do with some of the people around. But yeah, you literally can jump out and bail on a body and they die while you jump into another. Then you can go back and raise them if you want too.

The story is way more interesting than I expected it to be. Has a dash of Chrono Trigger to it.

The OST is S tier. Amazing vibe.

Btw this was made for men of culture 😌

I cant wait for the OST to get uploaded. I'm just chilling on the mission menu with my headphones on listening to the loop, having a beer.

And yeah the story is better than I expected. The ambition behind the game is crazy. So many systems. Imagine if he got to make this with Japan Studio backing him and all the possession elements as smooth as Gravity Rush 2. Would've been one of the sickest games this whole gen.

Difficulty is the key to taking this game to the next level. Just got to a fight in a narrow alley with like 10 people with machine guns aiming right at me. Died twice trying it with both rarity characters, gunned down fast.

Then I had to adapt strategy. Jumped all the way down the alley into some civilians and turned 3 of them into suicide bombs, cleared another soldier in the back then jumped to one of my mains and used the shotgun. Then he faced me, jumped again down the alley and lobbed a grenade turning the shield guy around, then instantly jumped back to my rarity and he got a back stab finisher. Sick.

Anyone know how to get the blood pool healing working with Alex? Maybe I got the wrong idea. You shoot the gun then stand in the blood?

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

I love the game because of the aesthetic. The adventure/puzzles and combat are easy to handle and fun. It's a solid AA title but I bought it off Steam which is priced correctly. I can't believe it's a full priced PS5 game.

I was wondering why they waited until the game's launch to disclose the steam price. Keep in mind this is a UE4 game and there is a tiny bit of shader compilation stutter when new animations load. Runs enjoyably well on Steam Deck with zero stutter and about 3 hours on OLED w/ 40hz cap.

Gameplay wise it’s good. You have very basic combat with blood skills, a blood weapon, and passive skills. You’ve got multiple characters to play as. One has a shotgun that drains your life with each shot, but you can absorb the blood around you for more life/ammo.

The plot is good if you enjoy reading Japanese manga and listening to the plot details while staring at a portrait of a character. This is what I think will decide if you stick with the game or not. Your gameplay loops are fun. Chase a splitter head, hunt down a person, or defeat the same type of boss for multiple missions.

It’s not bad. It has that Tokyo Jungle type of feeling to it in terms of cult status. Nothing about its gameplay, but the overall satisfaction there is by progression and the obscure gameplay mechanics. It feels like a PS2 beat em up at times and the level design can feel like earlier ShenMue/Yakuza games. You also get to climb, jump walls, and possess all kinds of people on the street to get where you’re going.

I took a break from it at 40% progress. I’ll go back.

Once you get used to the Sightjack sections its actually really fun. You can pick up little clues about what's nearby pretty quickly.

I love everything about the games except the missions. You have these amazing gravity powers and fantastic controls to utilize them but the game has you use them for the most mundane, unexciting missions that have been done a million times.
Just because I appreciate you.

But Gravity Rush is beauty. And the missions were no problem...

I even enjoyed them.

I'd also like to add that the Slitterheads remind me of Bone Thieves from Eternal Darkness a lot. So that's also a bonus.

One of the cool things about the game is in the beginning you have to run from one in the opening segment and later they start running from you and instead of them chasing you...you are chasing them. And I really like that sort of progression.

The hunted is now the hunter. And it feels great. And in some cases they get an advantage if the space is narrow and closed and you have to change your location to find more things to possess to have a fighting chance. So there is a layer of strategy to consider too instead of just shoot/hit the thing.

I love all the characters. Most of them are dark or broken in some way. Anita is sick as hell. Probably one of the coolest characters this year. Combat keeps getting better and more tactical.
