Sony’s first State of Play of 2025 set record of over 2 million concurrent viewers

In today's news on how "GAF is a bubble", we present you with this:

The first State of Play of the year, Sony’s showcase of upcoming releases, reached the series’ highest viewership ever. Not only did the event break 2,000,000 concurrent viewers for the first time, but it also recorded the highest watch time of any previous State of Play. Streams Charts presents the viewership statistics for the event and the top channels that contributed to this.

Throughout the hour-long event, the State of Play received 1.96M Hours Watched and maintained 1.8M Average Viewers, both new series’ records. As State of Play continues to grow and gain viewers, the amount of channels broadcasting the event continues to rapidly increase.
Co-streamers from around the globe watched the State of Play, discussing their favorite games and upcoming releases; 2025 marked the first time that over 1,000 channels covered a State of Play.

Hey Adam

Can you quantity what you mean by "lots"? Did lots of people also not like the MS direct? Is this based on anything more than a GAF poll?

Which one had a better showcase, objectively?
Isn't GAF one of the largest gaming forums in the world?

Why would you exclude polls from this site? Where else would a poll live outside of a gaming website?

for what it's worth, I saw similar polls outside the site

edit: beaten right above me

Because polls are not indicative of anything. People hyped themselves up to see about 20 different Sony first party studios titles for a feburary state of play. It's just nonsense to expect that. It was a good showcase of games early in the year, nothing more nothing less.

You have to have enough insight to see what this looks like from an outside observer, right? you aren't making sense

all the polls show it did poorly, so now you are making a nonsensical statement that polls aren't indicative of anything.

they're literally indicative of what they poll for. that is precisely how polls work.

you can disagree with how people felt, but it doesn't change how they felt

you are basically arguing people are wrong for being disappointed

No it's not just based on GAF's poll.

You can use this as reference if it makes it easier to digest. A sample size of nearly 80K people.

But it's just a user poll in the end, no one needs to take these results as a gospel, just like no one needs to do "BuT GaF iS a BuBbLe" commentary like the OP.

Let people vote the way they want, don't let it effect you this much.

yeah, people are wrong for being disappointed. It's a february state of play. Why are you expecting tons of Sony first party game announcements? This is to showcase all types of games across their partners and third parties, it's not a Playstation Showcase. These States of Play *never* have tons of 1P games announced, let alone one in February. We were lucky to see Saros get a reveal.

Cool. So answer my other questions, Adam?

GAF also said MS's showcase was an A - they had Doom, Ninja Gaiden 4, Expedition 33, and South of Midnight

What was the difference between their showcase, which is an A, and Sony's showcase, which allegedly is a D according to nothing but Toxic twitter warriors?

Era is a bubble.

This past week has shown us that GAF is extremely out of touch and many of its narratives are completely divorced from reality.

Prior to Sony and MS' financial statements the last week, Sony was on the ropes and was doomed and MS was still hanging in there. The site always gets it wrong with its narratives.

Sony is always doomed here and consoles are dying but reality tells a completely different story.

You need to take a chill pill :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm not responsible for, nor am I going to even begin, describing everyone's thought prorcess to you.

There were lots of ardent playstation supporters who gave it a lower grade on GAF's poll, you're essentially calling all of those playstation fans "toxic fanboys" here.

The people voting Ds and Fs in the polls are ardent playstation supporters, according to you? Still can't answer my question. Expectations play into polls.

statistically...yes?

look at the breakdown of how voting went vs PS sales, which is much higher than xbox sales

unless you think playstation owners are refusing to vote for some reason?

I think your repeated inability to understand how polls work is causing a lot of the issues here

Around 65% of voters on NeoGAF and Geoff Keighleys poll voted C or above.

Trying to gaslight people with delusions that no one liked it is fucking embarrassing.

I would rate it a C as well. It's was okay, not good, not bad.

I think your inability to understand expectation vs. result is causing the issue here.

A state of play can be "decently good", but if everyone expects every single sony first party studio to announce a new game or show new footage of their games, while also expecting a Bloodborne remaster which is nothing more than a meme at this point, then you can have a result that shows lower grades *despite* the game showcase being quality in aggregate.

Similarly, if nobody expects anything (MS Direct), but gets a surprise like Ninja Gaiden, it can poll highly. And yet The Sony showcase can still show a better lineup of titles. So yes, the polls are largely meaningless.

Watched it to see if there are good games coming to PC. And it seems there are and I've added 4 or 5 of them to my Steam wishlist.

I cannot say it was a waste of time. Actually naysu for me :goog_horns:
