Sony E3 2012 Conference Thread

why did ubisoft's footage of AC3 and Far Cry 3 look worse than the ps3 footage that they showed at their press conference?

The only thing that really excited me was the free copies of infamous 2 and saints row 2 for ps+ subscribers. I was hoping for them to announce a revamp of the psn. Slightly resigned xmb, better browser, new store layout, subscription based video service, playstation rewards program that they beta tested last year.

As a Vita owner that got the FEB and bought into Sony's hype, I'm pretty pissed. Sony seems to not give a care as to whether or not the Vita actually succeeds. The cupboard looks like it's quite bare aside from a few 3rd party scraps.

scale of 1-5

MS - 1 (nothing worth noting
EA - 1 (nothing worth noting)
ubi - 2 (one or two games looked alright)
sony - 2 (one or two games looked alright)

very very very stale E3

at least next year will be the start of the next gen systems so expect more.

Wasn't this when Sony was supposed to come out and save the Vita :lol. One new game shown in AC? If they couldn't even show CoD I dread to think what state that game is in. And no price drop. Wow

facepalm

Grades thus far

MS C-
EA C+
Ubi B+ (because of the conspiracy as to what watch dogs was rendered in)
Sony C+

we are doomed

I actually prefer the MS show, they showed more games that I want and they didnt spend what felt like a 1000 years on something called Wonderbook.
I feel the same way. They had that long montage at the beginning and spent about 25 minutes talking about that book - which is cool, but not for me. MS packed in more actual gaming content.

The Wonderbook is worse than Usher, because this isn't the Electronic Edutainment Expo.

At least it had something to do with video games. Microsoft literally just paid a random artist to have a seizure on stage with zero tie-in to any game. They didn't even bother to show Dance Central 3 in the background, and it went on for five minutes straight.

No clue what conference you watched. The one I watched was lame Nike crap, Usher, and MS pimping out their tablet. Unless you're a fanatic of the HALOGEARSFORZA assembly line I can't possibly see what was so interesting about that conference.

Wining E3 is so easy I can never understand why companies fail so hard at it.

- Announce new exclusive games that have not previously been announced (4 unannounced games should suffice)
- Show a few trailers / demos for said games
- Show trailers / demos for previously announced games that are yet to release (preferably titles your fans are hyped for) (should be exclusives)
- Sprinkle in a hardware related announcement (new hardware, price cut, redesign, etc.)
- ???
- Profit

The only explanation for this type of conferences that I can think of is that their aimed at investors. They want to show a bit of their overall platform strategy to inspire confidence in analysts that might be following developments.

That opening game - Beyond Two Souls - they can describe it as being as emotional and involving as they bloody well like - all we saw were fucking cutscenes. We saw nothing of how the game actually plays - is it a FPS, a third-person shooter, a cooking/dating simulator, a real time strategy game? - where is the game part of the fucking game?
Going by Quantic Dream's other games, Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain, i think it is a pretty safe bet to say that Beyond will be similar to those regarding gameplay.

Sony Smash Bros I've never seen in motion until now, and the character moves, dodges, bounces, everything about it reeks of being a carbon copy of Nintendo's own fighting franchise.
It looks quite similar indeed, but the dynamic for winning in the game is quite different from eachothers.

Wait... what about Agent?

I seriously expected Rockstar to enter the stage: "sorry but we canceled Agent, here's a trailer for GTAV though" ;P

Aside from no TLG demo, I really loathe how SCEA ignores their unique third party exclusives.
I don't know if they were at least shown as I missed the reel in the beginning but some attention for FFvsXIII, Yakuza 5 and Ni no Kuni (English version) would have been nice.
I know it's E3 but those are all quite big/relevant for western gamers...

I was super surprised at almost no Vita announcements outside of AC (which actually looked pretty cool).

Shame. Also Last Guardian has to be next gen or dead at this point.

Anybody else happy to see how unsettled some people are over the demo. It just goes to show you that games can and be more. Enough said.

Also, grades:

Microsoft: F (absolutely terrible, still trying to forget. there were a couple good demos: Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell, and something I forgot but none of it had to do with Microsoft regardless. hated their casual focus. and was bored with THEIR games)

EA: C- (too many FPS, but Warfighter and Crysis III did look good, no Mirror's Edge 2, Dead Space 3 looks great but it doesn't look like it's doing the survival horror genre any justice)

Ubisoft: A- (lots and lots of good demos: ACIII, Rayman, Watch_Dogs, etc... no Beyond Good and Evil 2)

Sony: C (lack of Vita games, Wonderbook Book of Shit, montage galore... again--saved by game of the century Last of Us and God of War Ascension)

I actually prefer the MS show, they showed more games that I want and they didnt spend what felt like a 1000 years on something called Wonderbook.

Ubisoft still the best.
Same.
Im looking forward to new NFS, South Park, and MOH, along with AC3, Farcry 3, and Watch Dogs. Sorry Sony.

Like Angry Birds 3D, right?

you're clowning yourself if you think that 8 games....count it, 8 games shown at sony presser is better then what microsoft showed today. that is fucking laughable to even compare the two pressers.

those who are defending this press conference is crazy.

The worst moment was the HTC mobile announcement. Guess they just gave up on the handheld space and went Android?

They really, really needed a Vita exclusive megatons and not just spinoffs.

What's with all the hate with this announcement.

Sony obviously believe there are 2 segments in the handheld gaming market.

Handheld Game Console = Vita = Gamer's portable Device
Mobile Games Device = Mobiles = Casual gaming device

SONY haven't given up on the vita because of this. Playstation suite has been going for 1 -2 years already, up till now its just been exclusive to sony devices. but it makes sense to make it avalable with HTC devices too.

its more important that they get access to their content for Playstation mobile onto as many platforms as possible else it wont hit off as mobile developers wont embrace it. That is why the HTC announcement makes sense.

I actually thought sony's presser was pretty decent. They showed a lot more games then MS, a lot more of the games they did show were actual gameplay demos, less emphasis on movies/music/social whatevers... and no ridiculously out of place musical act.

The low points for me were pandering to the crowd by giving them free PS+ subs, the still too long of a segment on movies and music, and the waaay to much time spent on the Harry Potter stuff.

Watch Dogs looks good because it really is the first next-gen game. I'm sure if MS or Sony wanted to show off their games they could compare.

I want it so bad though.

Ubi worker in the Watch Dogs thread says it's current gen. Pretty hard to believe though.

Edit: LOL conspiracy...
>_<

I think there may be one, that trailer was too awesome to run on anything but a PC, though I hear the page says current platforms. Hmm...

sony has never let me down, except for now. Even through all the Riiiidge Racers, crab boss battles and everything their conferences always left me impressed, this however overall was awful. Don't get me wrong MS's show was one of the worst since that Kinect "live" demo crap but Sony really dropped the ball. Andrew House needed to get off that stage, and the mobile devices pandering was complete crap

No Vita game info besides ACIII (How the eff can they just do that!?)
No PS3 price drop
No new PS3 hardware colors (The AC bundle isn't even white wtf)
No Last Guardian
No big Battle Royal character reveals (where is Snake, Cloud and Nariko Sony?)

Beyond looked amazing and so did TLoU but GOW looked way too familiar (really wishing for a series reboot now more then ever) and the demos were too long for just about everything. Also why did they waste time showing Far Cry 3? The Ubi show had more then enough footage, and that Wonder Book crap reminded me of the failure that was Ubi's Avatar the Game demo. So far E3 this year is a failure, and I don't have much hope left for Nintendo since I'm almost positive they will be showing endless footage of games ported to Wii U.

The people cheering the violence were the handful of the public who camped there days prior. It felt like I had the worst bunch behind me. "Last of Us has so much swag," said the kid with a fake ID that he flaunting before the show.

Awful but not as awful as MS's.
Well at least we now know that Vita is officially considered dead.

I think the lack of vita support makes it just as bad as MS', even if it wasn't nearly as boring to watch. They really needed to prove something with the thing here...so much for that.

Sony are fucked.

+ Beyond looked amazing
+ PlayStation Plus shows much more value as a service

- No Last Guardian
- No Kojima
- No South Park
- No price drops
- Nothing for the PSP2 besides a COD logo
- Anything Ubisoft related
- Anything Move related
- A fucking book
- GoW the same shit
- Uncharted with zombies

2.7 out of 10

-God of war was good.
-I'm still interested in All Starts but that was a forgettable demo.
-Assasins Creed had a great showing and put me back on board with the series
-TLOU was fantastic and might be the best show from E3 for me.

Not good at all, not bad. C-

Ubisoft - A
MS - D-

The most disappointing thing about these conferences are the surprise reveals which will get the whole game community talking. Ubisoft nailed it with Watch Dog, but both MS and Sony missed the boat.

I'm expecting some from Nintendo since they're usually masterful with their surprise reveals. Also, it's a new console, so there are bound to be new titles shown left, right and centre.

Last of Us is my second favourite game of the show (behind the obvious). OMG just incredible. Everything is so tense and the presentation is perfect.

I've only played GoW 1 half of 2 and 3, this game looks fucking incredible, day 1 can't wait.

I was super hyped for Beyond (after Heavy Rain impressed me so) but I wasn't feeling this that much. Will have to see more.

Overall the pacing was poor as usual for a Sony conference, missed opportunities and questionable length for many segments but offered multiconsole owners a reason to keep the system (unlike another console).

Can't wait for next E3, you know its going to be straight up insane. I knew going into this E3 it was a stop gap with Nintendo the sole manu with something to prove. Oh well.

Regarding Vita, I hope it fails and Sony never makes another handheld. Just concentrate on making great consoles because I don't play handhelds :P. Selfish but I have a right to be.
