Sony E3 2012 Conference Thread

Oh I know, I'm not saying Sony had an awesome conference. Just mentioning games that had time spent on them. Actually, I'm not the one mentioning them- he was.

Ha, I just edited my post above at any rate, just before you said this. I thought you were on the one starting the lists! I'm more than a bit tipsy at any rate, so apologies. Just having fun chatting about the evening now, and I expect to make a few more drunken fuck ups while I'm about.

Ah well, I thought the conference was awesome as all hell and it renewed my faith in console gaming.

sucks most of you can't feel the same way, but eh...There's always base jumping you can take up as a new exciting hobby :)

You're listing the demos of each side, aren't you?
More was demoed and showed, look at the post above. This is turning into a grasping of straws for sony fans. Outside of 2 games, sony had nothing of interest towrds their own console outside from the psplus gimmick. You can toot your 7 plus games being shown all you want, the conference was shit.

Not to spread FUD or anything, but I just came from the conference, and it was a disaster. The stadium that it took place in was literally 1/3 empty. Sony literally gave away hundreds of free tickets and this was still the result. Tretton, who for all intents and purposes seems like a swell guy, really botched up his lines from the teleprompter several times. You guys probably couldn't hear it from the televised footage, but people were laughing quite frequently at him. There's probably some deeper meaning about how Jack realizes that he's probably over his head, and it's possibly a sign of things to come. Furthermore, while I personally enjoyed checking out God of War, and Uncharted and such, several people walked out of the stadium as those demos were being played.

Now I'm not judging, I'm just doing my duty and reporting from the front lines, but that's how it played out. :(
You should write the report for EDGE.

Ya think?

Last of Us looked fantastic but overall it was a really poor show. They lingered on many demos much too long and didn't show enough. The lack of Vita discussion was frankly disturbing. Lastly the lack of games footage for anything created since the Playstation Suite Beta has been going on makes me think the platform has zero traction. They really had to have a top tier iOS dev on stage talking about developing for it.

I'm not touting it, and the conference was indeed bad. Just not as bad as Microsoft's. Also, those were your lists.

For me personally, it looked like this:

Sony-
God of War 4
The Last of Us
Beyond
AC3
Playstation...Smash Brothers*

Microsoft-
Halo 4
Resident Evil 6*

*Was interested, did not deliver.

Yeah I don't think most people are trying to say Sony's conference was fucking great, just that it was, while turdy, somewhat less of a turd than Microsoft's.

Please give more details. Did they just give out tickets to people on the street to attend...or...?

Giving Apple 30% cut for sales on iOS might take all the profit out of any iOS Playstation Mobile app.

Been said a million times but it needs to be said again: What a shittacular conference that was. And it wasn't just crappy, it was a fucking circle-jerk too with "fans" cheering at every other mundane announcement.

Beyond and The Last of Us were interesting. Everything else was either pure shit, or potentially good multiplat/3rd party/previously revealed games.

I didn't even bother with MS's but if it was genuinely worse than Sony's flimsy mess, then I'm glad I missed it.

(I also love how not a single peep was made about The Last Guardian. Cause, ya know, Wonderbook and Cell-phone games are totally far more important.)

I wish that they put together gameplay footage of Wonderbook. They really did not need an on-stage presentation of it. We all already know that Move works, they don't have to convince us of that anymore. They could have shown the highlights and how it works without spending so much time.

I feel like they had to fork a lot money over to JK Rowling for this shit so they're going to push it hard or something.

I think the incessant hollering and whooping was enough evidence that there were a lot of seat fillers in there.

They're not going to talk about vapor ware at this point.

I'm thinking that there will be a next gen announcement from Sony later in the year. Do they have any big PS3 games coming in Q3/4? I think GOWA, TLOU, Beyond and All Stars are all 2013 titles. I doubt they will just leave such a big gap for third parties only (in terms of press coverage/hype etc).

I'm happy with what they showed. I miss the conference but two huge gameplay showing trailers of BEYOND and Last of Us was leagues beyond what MS did for me.

The highlights for me were Beyond and The Last of Us. Both are looking incredible and my hype is increasing for those two games.

The rest of the show was pretty crappy but the lowest point was probably the lack of Vita announcements. Is definitely worrying and I don't really understand what they were thinking when they planned this conference. New GOW was meh.

And that Wonderbook crap...I don't even know why they spent so much time showcasing it like it's the best invention in the history of gaming. I was literally yelling get that shit out of my TV when the demo was going on.

I got 2 years of PS+ out of it, so I'm good!

And seeing Last of Us on the big screen w/ dat sound. Unbeatable.

E3 has somehow become the anti-Christmas of gaming.
It's just how it is now indays. Back in the days where not everything was easily showable/leakable, every thing shown was basically a surprise. So nobody can be pleased anymore... gamers constantly want to get leaks/rumors, yet get upset when their are no big surprises. Welcome to the always connected age!

you will be hacked!!111!00!01

Woke up, caught up on everything. Just... Wow. I'd expected great things from the rumours about a massive cloud deal we'd been hearing. Did that just not deliver at all?

And nothing from The Last Guardian.

E3 hasn't even come yet, for me. I've only been excited so far for things I've already heard about. :(

So, is it safe to say that The Last Guardian is vaporware?

I'm so incredibly disappointed over nothing being shown for this game. If it really doesn't exist anymore then just fucking cancel it rather than keeping fans hoping and waiting. If it doesn't show up at TGS (along with Versus) then I'm done with both games.

So, is it safe to say that The Last Guardian is vaporware?

At this point, it might be better for Fans if it was vapor ware and not a game. Given the time, the people that have left and clearly the problems the game has had, it might be better for everyone involved if it just never saw the light of day and Team Ico died with SOTC.

I have no idea if this was mentioned yet, so if it was I apologize.

I spotted this in the opening of Sony's conference:

That stretched box looks very familiar to the Portal 2 box stretching demo for the Razer Hydra controller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_1Ao2cd5BM

This is the Razer Hydra:

Looks awfully similar to the Move, could it be that the PS3 could be getting some Move specific DLC for Portal 2 soon?

The Sony conference was pretty bad. It would have been passable if they hadn't leaked 90% of it beforehand.

It's now clear the cloud streaming hype was just hit-hungry sites taking rumours as fact. I think Sony probably are doing something on streaming but as a PS4 feature.

The lack of Vita support from Sony at this point is frightening.

Never seen a conference go from amazing to terrible in so short a timespan. Thankfully they managed to recover, but still, that freaking wonderbook. Damn.

Also, no Last Guardian makes me sad.

I enjoyed seeing the God of War and Last of Us demos, but we had already known about these games for a while. The only good announcement I can think of, is that PS+ subscribers will now be getting free games.

Aside from that though, what a terrible conference. There was nothing on Vita aside from CoD and Assassins Creed, pretty much meaning that Sony has sent the thing out to die. (no price cut or first party games!?) In addition it wasn't necessary for demos of Assassins Creed III (although it was badass) and Far Cry 3 to take away from the conference when Sony had their own games they could have shown such as Sly Cooper 4.

Beyond I feel took away more time than it should have, and Wonderbook was easily the biggest problem about the conference. I feel that this took up the majority of the time when in reality, this book nonsense will probably mean squat when it comes to the future of Playstation.

I was thinking this E3 conference would finally persuade me to buy a Vita and it didn't come close.

I can sort of maybe somewhat understand how they fumble the PS3 portion since it's presumably in its twilight years, which is an easy period to fuck up if you don't have your shit together.

The way Vita was neglectfully shoved to the backburner though was fucking criminal. Why on earth should I bother shelling out over 200 bucks for a piece of hardware when the company making it can't be bothered to even show me why it will be worth it? No new games + no price cut. Ultimate "we don't give a fuck."

Not seen the conference, was sleeping but is disappointing that almost no Vita games were shown. It looks it was as bland as MS one, maybe a tad better considering that a pair of the exclusive games shown were new IP and seem AAA games, but just that.

I really hope that during the e3 many vita games are shown , otherways it would be terrible for the system and the confidence in sony would go downhill.

Yeah pretty much. I feel bad for Vita owners, but I'm sure some stuff will start to drop.

Is Sony going to do a separate demonstration for exclusive Vita stuff like Nintendo is going to do with the 3DS? I just don't recall any Vita exclusives from this show. I would like to see some footage of that new Soul Sacrifice game that was recently announced. I would hope there would be some more exclusive Vita games as well.
