Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Update on Rime would have been nice. Good show overall Bloodborne and No Mans Sky were my highlights of the show but also very low low points (Powers).

Wants to outlaw technological innovation.
First of all Nintendo has still not gone yet and at this point they could make this an easy win. Second of all, no absolutely not. Indies are fun games, but they are also very opinionated on who actually likes what, even more so than AAA games. Third of all, Microsoft's Fall line up is still considered to be better than Sony's, at least in my opinion. Also having more tv/tv/tv than Microsoft is jarring and led them into losing to Microsoft by a little bit.

I honestly thought both conferences were average. Pretty much everything had already been shown/leaked. Sony had more variety, but derailed a bit in the middle.

sure...lol...okkk...whats next?

Ridiculous.
They seem to be deliberately provocative recently and it's making them look like they have a pro Sony agenda.

Regardless of personal preferences both MS and Sony had similar conferences in the sense that neither one was significantly better than the others.

8/10 for me.

Focused a bit too much on Powers. And the pacing of the conference was weird at times. But enjoyed the variety of games.

Both had great conferences, I feel. MSFT I thought had a lot of great stuff coming by the end of this year, whereas Sony has a really strong line up but most of it is arriving 2015. I don't think the content was lacking in either conference, really.
There's also no more "winning E3" for me, anymore.

Also, E3 isn't even over yet, so there are bound to be a few more surprises.

Feels like this was written in advance weeks ago and then tooled around the conferences. I thought Sony's conference was boring and without any groundbreaking surprises. Sure I'm excited for games I already knew were coming but...I already knew they were coming. *shrugs*

versus microsoft's conference? :p

Even if you don't gives the win price to Sony one thing is clear.

Microsoft failed after all this months creating hype.
They was in a bad situation, they shoul go all in.
Third party big exclusive?
Dragon's Dogma? Prince of Persia? Etc...

I don't understand why someone HAS to 'win' E3

I missed MS's keynote, but it looked like they had a good show, mostly because they had more to lose than Sony. But overall whether you're getting a PS4 or xb1 you should be happy

Was kinda boring if you ask me, though that was the case for all the press conferences yesterday. Honestly the Microsoft conference was better paced, with Ubisoft and Sony being the worse two when it comes to pacing.

Even with the middle bloat of Sony's press conference, I think they still had more variety and more exciting exclusive games than Microsoft showed. MS has Sunset Overdrive in their back pocket as the next big exclusive, but Sony's 2015 is shaping up to be monster with all their exclusives lined up.
I agree!
The Sony Conference was strong. Clearly the best one.
With diversity and some nice suprises :)
Damn.... Bloodborne is sooo good ^_^

No exclusive they showed was better or worse than MS (since no one has played them). And suddenly "console debut" exclusives are sealing the deal? Edge.... No.

Someone should tell them it's supposedly not CGI, so they can revise further up their judgment of the show ;)

Everyone seems to be making a lot of noise about how Uncharted 4 wasn't CGI but in-engine. But why does it matter? It was a small-scale bit of game that was made specifically for a trailer - no gameplay, just carefully placed assets in a short teaser of a game we knew was coming.

Technically all of the pre-rendered stuff in Uncharted 1-3 is also "in-engine" as well.

20 minutes of an E3 press conference where the most interesting thing during that time was concept art of a tv show.

think about that for a second.

concept art for a tv show.

it was honestly sony's worst presser since 2005.

I agree that the tv stuff was boring as hell. I just don't see how that ruins a 2 hour confrence. One that spotlighted some amazing 3rd party games that I am into.l (Destiny, mortal kombat, batman) and first party games I am looking forward to ( blood borne, lbp3, uncharted, the order and tlou ) and some indie games.

Compared to Microsoft that had.... Not a single thing I care about outside of Dragonage. Cgi everywhere

If you aren't Into the games Sony showed thats fair.

:lol at the usual suspects getting up in arms over this. Double :lol since Edge consistently manage to piss off fanboys on all sides.

"Sonys money hats, tvtvtv shit no one cares about, cg trailers, and multiplatform games were definitely better than MS because reasons"
- Edge: Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference: a solid but uninspiring start for Phil Spencer’s ‘new Xbox’ (Same writer!)
What were intended as surprises weren’t all that surprising, and once again, Microsoft’s efforts to promote more alternative fare from the indie scene felt forced. But at least they’re trying.
it is his hand steadying the tiller and his tight focus on games made for a showcase which wasn’t quite impressive enough to get pulses truly racing, but enough to suggest that Microsoft now understands what players want.
. It was also our first mention of “raising the bar”, while being “built from the ground up” was saved to describe Forza Horizon 2, an open world driving game with a strong social element. You can group together with friends to race in a club – a Drive Club, if you will – and that kind of connected, co-operative play would become a theme to run throughout this year’s showcase
Harmonix’s Alex Rigopulos sounding so utterly bored by the prospect of releasing Disney Fantasia Music Evolved and Dance Central: Spotlight, as if he was still mourning the loss of the device as a mandatory pack-in.
before 343 Industries took to the stage to talk about the new Halo compilation due at the end of the year, the announcement of which perhaps wasn’t as well received as Microsoft thought it would be. It’s a formidable package, certainly, which includes Halos 1-4, beta access to the multiplayer portion of Halo 5 and the Ridley Scott-produced live action series Halo Nightfall. Halo 5 was what the crowd really wanted, though, not a ‘greatest hits’ compilation – it was telling that Microsoft considered one of the key points of interest to be that Halo 2’s multiplayer would return “exactly as it shipped ten years ago”. A few people in the crowd still felt that this repurposing of a decade-old game mode was worthy of a whoop, though.
It would have been a smart gesture to pick out a few more of them for some extended airtime, but perhaps wary of following Sony’s lead a little too much, we quickly returned to the pre-rendered trailers
This year Xbox One desperately needed a fresh start and a new outlook, and it has had those, but true redemption hasn’t quite arrived. When Spencer returned at the end to reiterate that Microsoft is continuing to listen to players and built its box around them, the atmosphere was a little flat; it was clear Microsoft hasn’t quite managed to stage the fightback it needed to.
This year’s Xbox One showcase needed more exclusives, more specifics, more ambition and more of the unexpected. It’ll only take a little more of each from Sony for PS4 to claim another clear victory once again.
Jesus.

Honestly, MS had a better show than Sony. less talk, only games.

Sony has something to learn there. Please stop talking and show the damn games instead!

Dont get me wrong, Sony had more good games to show than MS. MS had 3 games that looked great and they are all Multiplatform.

also, force developers to show gameplay graphics and cut those damn CG or Pre rendered trailers out!
Bloodborne kind of made me sad as it was only cg, why show that?

I feel let down by this years E3.

The sections between No Man's Sky and Arkham Knight (which were the two best games showed at any conference) at Sony's conference were just horrible. Those 40-45 minutes had absolutely nothing interesting going on. Hard to say who "won" when one company had a third of their conference be completely terrible.

I don't agree. I thought they were both pretty meh. I own only an XBO right now so I'm more partial to what they're offering but a lot of what Sony showed is going to be on XBO eventually.

Seemed more like Sony took a page out of Microsoft's 2013 press conference, talking about other stuff besides the games.

What about all the claims of KotOR, ME4 and Fallout 4? I swear last year MS also might have had exclusivity on Madden too I believe?

For me that was why MS was underwhelming, it was overhyped and the leaks inevitably hurt them.

Yep. Gamers win, and Edge just continues to be disappointingly sensational with their headlines. It's fine to have that perspective; just remember that not everyone really wants a clear "winner" from E3 now. It's alright to want everyone - including the Big N - to do well.

It's funny how you can read one group of GAFers saying this is Sony's worst conference in years and that it was a snore-fest, and another group of GAFers saying it was amazing, 10/10! I think it just proves how wishy washy and underwhelming all of the conferences were.

Overall, every conference was pretty 'okay'. I think the leaks had a big impact on deflating my excitement, but overall I don't think any conference stands out (well, except for the fact that EAs was easily the worst).

Feeling that way, I have no fucking clue how EDGE can 'confidently seal the victory' to Sony. Both conferences were B- at best, and seems more of a 'different strokes for different folks' situation.

EDIT: Sorry if this seems out of place. Thought I submitted it in the EDGE thread.

Okay. Now you lost me. They showed a shot of Drake getting up, grabbing his gun and walking into a jungle, for a game everyone knew was eventually coming. That was the worst game announcement of E3 so far.
It's called a teaser. We were all teased and itching for more.

That was a success.

Except for the tv part it was a very good conference imo, I am much more interested in the games they showed than in microsofts conference.
which was good though
But I understand that many wished more 1st party presence.

Eh, I liked MS' presentation more. It got me more excited but in retrospect, neither conference was really impressive. At the moment, my most wanted exclusive is Sunset Overdrive so I'm sure that colors my reaction.
