I spent a bit of time with the Deck now and it’s quite fantastic in terms of its build quality and ergonomic design. Very comfortable to hold even over a 2-3 hour session. It’s quite light given its size and the fan has been almost non-existent, that’s how quiet it has been. Screen is gorgeous as expected. The back buttons feel a little out of place or maybe because I have small hands, I just don’t think I’ll ever make use of them. UI is clean and simple, and I haven’t encountered any issues with the OS, runs really well. I also downloaded Aperture Desk Job which turned out to be a polished and charming 30min Steam Deck tutorial. I've been playing Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, it's soooo good.

Initially felt the same (except for the small hands part) but you'll get used to it and it will become important. So much that I miss them when playing on a regular controller now.Don't hesitate to tweak your controls there''s a really great variety of customisation.

I had trouble with the back buttons and basically ignored them for a year, but you can buy little stick-on pads for them which helped make them a lot more physical (way easier to find while holding naturally) and usable - since they protrude more pushing them in is easier.

Make sure to give the HDR a go too, Ori 2 is a quick way to experience it, but there's plenty of other games (over 100) that showcase how amazing it can look too.

I don't think it feels premium but it's the most comfortable portable I've ever held. It just fits so perfectly. And everything is so easy to reach since the sticks are more horizontal to the pad/buttons so I don't have to adjust my grip to reach them unlike the Switch and the other portable PCs not named GPD.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Been playing a ton of Deep Rock Galactic Survivor on the Deck. Mostly plays at a smooth 60fps which feels like magic.

Hard to top something that's just $10, is super addictive, and runs so smoothly.

I really try everything I can to keep from installing windows, when I set my steam deck up for my son his two most played games were not available..
Today I've found a solution that gets him back in the game

Waydroid is a really incredible Android emu that allowed me to install Minecraft and Roblox and play them flawlessly on the SteamOS side of the deck..
I was hoping with Fortnite Mobile being back in action that I'd be able to also get it going for him, but sadly Epic Games Store won't allow you to install the game saying
device is not compatible (for fucks sake let me TRY it anyways).. but it will let you install fall guys..

Minecraft did give me a crash message on first startup a few times, but you just choose to wait and it will load and run.

Maybe a dumb question but I cant see/find steamgriddb under my plugins in the decky loader? I have all the other ones available to instal like protondb badges, non steam launchers but this one is just missing completely for me.

Wasn't going to upgrade the ssd but ended up ordering a 2tb last night that arrives Sunday and a little 2030 enclosure for the old 512. Been wanting to mess around with 3D gaming on XR glasses but a little afraid to brick things but will go ahead this week.🤞

EDIT: Upgrade went smoothly. The little usbc enclosure is blazingly fast- transfers a 7gb file in about 4sec! Also fixed the right bumper while in there. It had stopped registering when pushed from the side. Didn't get around to messing with 3D yet.

Feels great having so much space! Also like starting over with the organizing. Only installing games I intend to "complete soon" on the ssd. Still thinking about how to organize the other sd cards but something where I'm not having to guess where to find things.

Got fed up with storage, my 256GB deck with external 1GB SD was a decent setup but I want to replace the 256Gig nvme with a 2 TB one. So ordered that, will be fun replacing it(not) but I'll lookup some YT channels!!!!

Randomly the cpu/gpu/framerate counter turned on in the upper left corner of the screen. How do you turn it off?
Press the OPTIONS button, go down to the BATTERY icon, and switch the performance overlay to off.

Been putting some good hours into TESIV: Oblivion over the last week. Needed a couple of mods to make it properly playable - mostly just adding controller support and fixing the texture filtering - but man, it plays so well on the Deck. I forgot just how darn transportive Bethesda's games can be when they're firing on all cylinders.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Steam Deck still has it's place for low performance games in the market but I honestly have to wonder how much longer they plan to wait around before releasing an new Handheld? The new APUs coming out in January are already going to be 315%-415% more powerful then a Steam Deck.

It feels really bad not being able to play Monster Hunter Wilds on the Steam Deck so the system is feeling pretty old now.

How much faster are they going to be at around 10-12 TDP?

And c'mon you saying that if the Deck can run BG3 at 30-45fps, these things in January will run it at 120-180fps (the PS5 doesn't even do that IIRC)? Again, at what TDP, if it's like 35-40, then there you go. That's 4x the TDP.

Also I've been told MHW doesn't even load or isn't the least bit playable on the the Ally either (though the Ally X has the extra RAM to get it going I guess).

The issue is people don't want a Deck 2 that's heavier than the Deck (aka heavier/larger battery than the 50Wh one), and they don't want a handheld that runs out of battery in 90 minutes either. That machine is called an Ally 2.

Low performance is funny when I’ve been playing Bright Memory Infinite, a current gen game, on my Deck just fine at 800p, and can get 40-50 frames on average? Dying Light 2 runs very well on here too. The Steam Deck can and does run a good handful of current gen games very solidly, with only the heaviest giving it major issues. With it being able to chew through 8th gen games easily, and crushing anything older than that, I’d say the Deck still has some good life left in it.

There will always be something faster and more performant, and if you’re someone who needs/wants more power out of your handheld, there are definitely options out there now, which is great. As a complimentary device to my PC, the Steam Deck will serve me well until Valve releases a version 2.

The Internet exists you don't have to adhere to what others said there ate plenty of videos out there showing how the game is running on the Ally X

I'll see how I feel about this in February because I prefer playing Monster Hunter on a Handheld but as great as the Steam Deck are running a variety of games the fact of the matter is that it's unable to perform to my specific use case and I expect this issue to continue to grow because the Steam Deck couldn't handle Dragon's Dogma 2 either

The point wasn't how it ran on the X, but how it was said to not be playable (or possibly even run) on the Ally (which does seem a bit weird because they're almost the same machine). Yes, the internet is out there, but what's the point of discussion here if I just look everything up myself, then there'd be nothing to do here.

I know I'm LTTP as hell but after using PCSX2 for quite a bit via SteamOs and all the controller issues and impossible to read UI etc etc I just started with the Emu Deck, and I'm really just blown away by it.

Transformed my Steam Deck from a barely used device on the road into this ultimate retro monster machine. Just jumping from impossible to buy PS2 titlles to C64 and gameboy games I played as a toddler to fucking Shadow Dancer on Sega Genesis. It's a trip.

I'd love to be able just to buy ROMs, as getting them in is still so much hassle and hard drive juggling in my case but it's all worth it. I need to dig deeper to get some things sorted, like I hate my browser, not sure how to change it?

yeah I know whatyearisit.gif welcometothepartypal.gif

I think every old timer Steam Deck owner needs to check it out.
