Steam is the worst place to play retro PC games

Unless the game is remastered or remade, retro Steam is a trash heap almost every single time and I really hope GOG never goes anywhere. I'll give a couple of examples:

- Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 on Steam has disabled multiplayer. You have to mod the game to enable it. On GOG, you can download them and Direct IP (kids, this is how we gamed online when a server went down).

- Fallout 1 is censored on Steam due to it being an EU version (think of the children EU version). On GOG, it's the US good version.

- Off-Road Redneck Racing (shut up) has framerate issues, graphical glitches and various other issues.

- SWAT 4 crashes more frequently on Steam.

- Thief Gold crashes more on Steam and runs worst than the GOG edition.

These are the examples I've personally experienced. Why can't Steam be as good as GOG for older games?

My guess with 0 sources: one Steam it's the publisher who dumps the game there. On GOG, is the people at GOG who take care of that stuff.

GoG curates older titles and often times include non-official patches to help those titles run on modern systems. Steam leaves that up to publishers.

The only problem with GoG is that they don't always update their mods to make games run in the latest windows.

I could not get Wing Commander Prophecy to run in Windows 11. Runs fine in Windows 10.

Also, you tend to have to adjust their DOSBox settings.
