Supergirl S3 |OT| Long May She Reign - Mondays 8/7c on The CW

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
- Right off the bat, I like some of the choices they made here. Even tiny touches like the supergirl logo in the intro being darker. Also the dialogue was snappier, characters didn't sit and wait for reaction shots, they just went for it. They also didn't overplay the Dark Supergirl stuff. She's just sorta depressed and straight to business, but eventually found her way back to her friends.
- WHOA, Lena's accent was slipping in that boardroom scene. Been a long summer, eh. lol
- I like seeing Adrian Pasdar in things. He's fun on Agents of SHIELD
- Very well directed episode, I loved that shot of Kara, Wynn, J'onn, and Alex talking at the DEO as the camera panned around them.
- This Morgan Edge timing is perfect for me. I knew nothing about him before, but I was going through Jack Kirby's 4th World comics this summer and Edge is introduced in the Jimmy Olsen series there. Except in that he's buying the Daily Planet and just fucks with Clark Kent constantly. lol
- James was way outta line using the watch to have a chat. That's dangerous.
- At least the Supergirl statue is better than that janky ass one Black Canary got lol

I was so ready to drop this show, but the premiere was promising. Only quibble would be it still feels like a sports anime during the 3rd act fights. Kara does awesome stuff, all the DEO characters stand around narrating and explaining.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

Sorry, but Flash-GAF told me Patty Spivot did nothing wrong.

Solid premiere.

Totally embarrassing to admit, but I almost teared up when Alex was asking Hank to walk her down the aisle.

I have to hand it to the actors because I don't really know why the scene was actually so effective.

It really sucks to watch J'onn just chillin' when he could totally handle things. Like, okay, Supergirl can't breathe underwater. He can. Shapeshift into a fish or Aquaman or something else with gills. But why do that instead of nothing, right?

Because J'onn isn't allowed to be much use

Anytime J'obber is out in the field something usually goes horribly wrong. Dude should stay inside as much as possible.

Really used super hearing to listen to hurt beat. Oh all things to focus. She must have data based heart beats.

Meh Lana part of Kat co. Trying to condense all this character as part of Kara's bubble.

Who is Mom of Steel?

So Edge is Talbot? Holy shit I knew I had seen him somewhere else!

It was an okay episode. I'm still sad there ain't much time spent on CatCo and her work there, and the time we spent with the DEO but that's what this show I about unfortunately. Good to see she's gonna embrace Kara again at the end of the episode cause I really need a way more optimistic Supergirl who loves what's she's doing. I'm probably not gonna get that either.

The ending was interesting. I just hope we won't get another invasion by a foreign alien species like the Daxamites again. Oh yeah I liked the shot of all the friends hanging out by the table.

The underwater scene looked really bad, like it wasn't even water. Her lifting up the submarine looked good though. I liked Cat's appearances on the TV's and wouldn't mind if that's how we get to see her this season.

I was thinking the same thing. Be cool if they just have her film a bunch of goofy Press Secretary bits and then sprinkle them around the season.

The Press Secretary stuff is easy to shoot (can do it in LA), is easily inserted and can be timely commentary. I like it.

Submarine scene was great, rarely see feats like that on TV shows but the best surprise was Nola being in the show now, that's awesome, and apparently she will be playing Reign, sweet.

Love Asshole Kara. It is nice the show plays into this, having this actually impact the characters and have them be right for it. Other Arrowverse shows have done a bit too much 'cranky hero was right' stories.

That was a pretty good premiere. Some thoughts:

Edge feels like a worthy replacement for Maxwell Lord, which is good (also, Adrian Pasdar is a very inspired choice for this role); I was surprised by the directing in this episode, it felt better than usual for a CW show; the acting was also surprisingly on point (probably also related to the directing); please, keep attacking Trump, I need me some catharsis; Katie McGrath might as well stop trying to come up with an American accent, her original accent is great and this weird mixture is just distracting; I really liked the way they addressed Mon-El's disappearance from Kara's point of view, it felt believable, good stuff; they better not mess with Alex and Maggie; oh, and James still exists, so that's... something!

Solid episode. Some of the show's better-directed dramatic moments (though the crowd looking stupidly calm during the submarine rising kinda took me out of it).

Some genuinely good jokes here and there, with Wynn on the comm and Alex's "biggest gayest wedding."

Adrian Pasdar is a solid addition.

Good stuff.

He must be thrilled that his ex-girlfriend who he hounded is the bestie of his new boss.

Haha! I honestly couldn't care less about James, though. They keep trying to make him happen, but he's not an interesting character in this iteration, in both the concept and execution departments. First he was a reporter living under Clark's shadow, then he was tangled in that Lane family storyline and at the same time he was Kara's love interest (never before seen chemistry between those two...), then he became the new Cat (which... no, just... no), also a new vigilante (which... why? And how? And why, again?), now he's trying to act like he juggles his vigilante persona and his professional life like a pro (which... I mean, I had to endure season 2, sorry James, can't buy your act). Might as well write him off.

Pasdar as Morgan Edge is the tops, always excited to see more of him. Real highlight of the episode for me.

But overall... nah. Did not convince me to keep tuning in. Sorry Supergirl - when you're on Netflix, if I hear good things.

He can make a big sacrifice to bring some real repercussions to the show.

I am Korean.
Last season was so incredibly bad, I've actually lost faith this team can turn this around. I would like James to drop his Guardian persona, maybe get some more time in at the newspaper, and just drop the whole DEO. This show probably won't ever really be what I wanted it to be, but I'll give it a few more episodes and see how it goes this season.

It should drop one or the other. Dunno why they even bother with jobs at Catco unless rent's just too damn high or something in that city.

Lena's accent slipped a bit, huh. When she said Catco when talking to Adrian Pasdar for one.

Did they recast Kara's mom?

Edit: Reading up, I see that they did.

Finally watched the episode. I gotta say, Kara in this premiere probably the best depiction of the whole "mopey superhero" trope that I've seen regarding the CW superhero shows. When Barry, Oliver or the supporting cast acts all depressed, I inevitably end up rolling my eyes, as it's so often contrived and feels insincere in a way. But with Kara, it felt a lot more realistic imo

Also I come for this show a lot, but damn I love everything about Alex's subplot

Katie McGrath's accent has been slipping out a little this episode. Maybe my ears just playing tricks on me.

They should have just let her keep it given that her character didn't have the same mother as Lex and did spend several years with her birth mother before she went to level with Luthors. The can easily say she was outside the US for a number of years and she picked up the accent again. If a person can't keep the accent down then don't bother trying to hide. It's bad when they slip up.
