Switch 2 won’t have achievements, Nintendo has confirmed

Exactly, like I have friends that don't care about them and they game just fine, while I am the one that enjoys them...both things can exist just fine.
In this case I think it is more about "if Nintendo did not want it I do not want it, they look after me and it is time I look after them"…

Yea, but the thing is I personally didn't even expect Nintendo to even respond on it since at this point they haven't used any type of achievements.

But I still think a stat log of gaming completions, hours spent, etc a nice list looking at our titles we played could givd trophy players like myself something while simply being just stat log of completions.

They probably still haven't quite figured out the system to take $1 from your account balance every time you pop an achivement.
And like what do you do with people with no account balance and that haven't their CC tied to their account?
Too many variables right now.

I know, I use the Parental Control app on myself to get some more stats 😂.

This doesn't bother me as more often than not very little thought or care go into these systems and if it is important to the developer, they can implement their own system within their games. It sucks for those who like the social elements of them though.

All about them stats mane 😅

Yes chico!

What I'm hoping for is that you can track how many hours you spend on a game. Switch 1 does do that but not to the extent that the Wii U did.
I want them to go a step further and go back to the activity log that the 3DS had, which was the best of the bunch IMO. Either one would be miles ahead of what the Switch had though.

When the credits roll on a game that I really loved, achievements motivate me to spend even more time in them, or try the game again at higher difficulty. But most games aren't that lovable and in those cases achievements don't add much for me. I agree with @ChorizoPicozo that it's perceived as a "lack of value" whether you like achievements or don't.

There's just so many games where even when I sit and play without guides stuff is so missable, so when I'm scanning trophies I like that it makes me really explore even more.

And even further the reason I like Sonys even more is because I love a platinum to top it off, 1000/1000 is cool but I love that platinum.

I alway envisioned Nintendo doing Crowns or something.

They would've charged us for them anyways.
It'd probably be like the new voice chat thing that's locked behind NSO:

"Until March 31, 2026, Achievements can be obtained without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Afterwards, a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to obtain Achievements. Any in-game progress made outside of a Nintendo Switch Online membership subscription period will not count towards obtaining Achievements."

As incredibly lame as achievements are there are a loooot of people suffering from OCD over these meaningless "blings". So I´d say that`s a missed opportunity.

Did anyone expect it to? They've gone this long without doing it and honestly it's not something I bother with in any game. Most achievements these days aren't even fun.

You get shit like "Go to the top of a random building and do a flip, but don't trip, and land on the tip of a drip". Like if I'm going to do random things I don't need the game to clap it's hands for me.

Meh most games have achievements within the game itself, most recently Xenoblade X.

I don't play games without achievements or trophies anymore so not interested. They can keep their shitty overpriced ecosystem if they can't even included a modern feature every other platforms has.

I know these are hit and miss with everyone, but if you don't like them just ignore them. An incredibly brain dead decision to once again not have them on your new system when the other ones do.

Fact, and i know there are others like me too.....if there a big named 3rd party title coming to both PS5 and Switch (or Switch 2 now), the deciding factor for me will be PS5 since it has trophies.

In same boat man I just like the ecosystem there, even tho I'm a pc guy as well I just love platinum hunting... It's a game within the games to me, I always like check list type stuff so it's fun to get my road map going with it

Same! I'm at 63 right now.
Nice man, yea I'll be moving on my way to 40. So I was a destiny player since day 1 and man I don't regret my 9 years playing but I stopped trophy hunting in those years. I quit in May of 23 before Diablo 4 released and I've done about 20ish since and it's been since and it's just been a blast, I love it.

When I plat a game I also feel I truly got my money's worth and did pretty much everything it has to offer

I do not chase achievements but I know people that do. It actually adds value in a sense because they play some games longer than the normally would.

I like them because they create an additional challenge. It is the folks who think they shouldn't exist that don't make sense. Achievements/trophies are completely optional. Genuine case of "stop liking things I don't like".

It's a shame, I'd love to see this from them.

I'm a huge fan of Retro Achievements, so it'd be really great to see a system-wide achievement system integrated into the retro back catalog of games. Honestly, it's the reason I prefer to play these older games on a different device (like the Retroid Pocket 5) instead of playing them on the official Nintendo app on the Switch.

They could've done Crowns or Stars, Maybe instead of platinum it's Crystal Crown, or Crystal Stars and other small trophies akin to bronze, silver gold etc...

Just sucks, I really love to see my game journeys being documented

Weirdly, BotW and TotK both are getting "achievements" in their Switch 2 Edition upgrades. But they're only trackable within the mobile app.

I don't understand the people happy that a fairly common feature is excluded.

"Good, this car doesn't go in reverse, I always drive forward anyways!"

Say what you want about achievements. It's a nice bonus you can ignore if you don't enjoy. I like it as a record of what I have done in games. I usually buy non Nintendo versions since Nintendo is allergic to achievements.

It's fairly simple. Even assuming that they could be completely disabled, adding them system-wise would obviously push the developers (first party included) to waste their dev time on this.

Hasn't that ship kinda sailed? I get that some people are still really into achievements, but the novelty of it wore off a long time ago and Nintendo made their disinterest pretty clear.

Personally, I've always felt like it gave devs/publishers an easy substitute for unlockable content or something actually fun to reward players for accomplishing things. And I've always just turned the notifications off, as I find them more distracting than anything.

A waste to you. Not to me or the others who enjoy trophy/achievement hunting.

Weird not to just include their own version of this feature when their new social features are all rip-offs of Discord, and Discord ripped off Slack to start.

Just steal the ideas enough people care about over time. You can literally have achievements for NES, SNES, N64, all Gameboys, Nintendo DS, Gamecube and Wii games through Retroachivements.org integration with various emulators.

I don't get the hate in this thread. Many Nintendo games already do have achievements, but somehow making it easier to track in the system UI instead of per game is so bad for whatever reason. You can keep ignoring them the say way you do now, probably even easier If there's a system toggle to disable the notification.

Why would that ship have sailed, they all have them minus Nintendo

Achievements drive the player a certain direction. Nintendo does not want to do that., or Miyamoto doesn't.
