The BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Official Thread [360/PS3] - Be Ready for the Rebel

I'm really diggin' the barrier mechanic in this game. Adds a good layer of depth. My favorite chars so far are Tager and BANG, even though I think Bang should use his swordm ore often.

Agreed. "F, D, DF + P" = Dragon Punch. "623P" = my old apartment number. ;P

Thing is with the length of some combos in GG/BB the first notation gets cumbersome very very quickly. The fact that some inputs require two letters, you can't smush it all together but need to seperate it with ","s

So this Noel Combo

f+B, f+C, d+C, df+C, d,d+C, dash, f+C, D, f+B, C, f+B, C, qcf+D

Okay so first of all we have Downs and Drive's sharing the same letter, that's fucked up. Second it's hard as hell to read or you can do this

6B, 6C, 2C, 3C, 22C, dash, 6C, 5D, 6B, 5C, 6B, 5C, 236D.

It's much more clear and simple once you realize how the numbers correspond to directions.

Haven't got it yet, but I plan to pick it up over the weekend. I'm getting it mostly because it's such a good looking game. I was a bit of a GGXX fan, but it was a little too tough for me to get into with any depth. From what I hear BB is a bit slower and easier to get into. I'm hoping that's true.

I am pleased!

Don't get me wrong, I get that it's more concise and an infinitely better way to notate crazy 64-hit combos and such. I just get confused when I'm reading and trying to replicate it on my own. I can't think of a better notation to use, though, so I suppose it's a moot point.
But I thought GAF is for complaining about things we can't change!

It IS meant to be a new Guilty Gear... but I think people get the notion like you make it out to be Accent Core#Reload, which they they refute.

Also, JI, only kinda: http://s1.zetaboards.com/blazblue/pages/02#jump
You can't reset your jump option in the game by RCing, but RCing after an uppercut will still let doublejump and air-dash.
Oh yeah, RCing will now work at any frame of almost anything.

Oh, and FRCs: simply too much timing for something so basic. There are proficient on/off players who still have problems with the FRC timing of their char because it's so strict and if you don't play for 2 months you are suddenly set way back. With something sorta basic and very important. If FRCs had a more relaxed, lenient pre-buffer window it would have made people happy.
And probably piss off some hardcore players :lol

A lot of oldschool GG players still want a new Guilty Gear and see BlazBlue as "Guilty Gear light"/"GG dumbed down". But fact is, the change in brand made a lot of changes possible that oldschool GGers would have scoffed at. Just as 3rd Strike is considered a shitty game that's only played because it's popular and named Streetfighter by many oldschool players.

If you want, you can see the sparks fly in here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=147989
430 pages, 10.000 posts and far too much discussion of oldschool people "GG vs BB". It's calm now but man... :lol

Or to quote HeartNana, whose Noel will rep at SBO:

----------
Some things I disliked about GG:
-super high combo damage (see slayer and others)
-FD coming from your super gauge (now has it's own gauge)
-Burst charging over time (I like the 1x a round with negative effects if you do it early)
-Combo's being extremely difficult and VERY character specific (see Ino vs Sol for example)
-Throws being INSTANT and not two buttons, but a button and a direction.
-Being able to get dizzied
-Lack of Balance, some reallllly bad matchups exist

Things I liked about GG that's in BB:
-Fast Paced
-Chains, not links
-negative penalty for turtling
-super gauge is 0 at the beginning of every round
-Crazy mixups and stuff, most/every character has overheads

Some extra things I like about BB:
-Your character turns around on their own if you jump over your opponent. None of this always facing one way stuff...
-Being able to super jump then double jump
-FRC's aren't in there, but there's regular RC's.
-Only certain moves are air unblockable, not just every ground hit.
-Being able to choose my control scheme in the arcade

That's just off the top of my head. That, and I like my character way better in BB way more than I like my character in most other games I play. I wasn't the biggest fan of GG, so I wasn't sure how I would like BB, but I like it a lot.
-------------

And you better cheer him on since he's probably the only good Japanese BlazBlue player you can talk to directly on a western message board :D

Why are people starting with D, DF, F+P ???
StreetFighter notation for this is qcf+P
qcf, hcf, qcb, hcb, dp, rdp (reverse dragon punch), 360, 720.
Also, directions lower case, buttons uppercase. d+D... Sweep

Just saying.

Did some arcade play this morning.
Used both Litch and Noel...I'm in love with Noel. It's like they watched Equalibrum and decided to make a character based off the fighting in there. She is awesome <3

Yeah, I guess it may be easier for single inputs, but I think it would be so much better if they used qcb, hcb, dp, etc. for the specials.

Didn't ASW more or less come out and say that they made BB because the GG brand was owned by Sammy, and ASW had no interest in working on something they don't own.

No, it's now owned by Sega -.-

Though MarkMan said "It will not be the last time you heard of a 2D Guilty Gear fighter". Cryptic.

Tell you the truth, if it's not handled by arcsystem I don't give a damn.

What I said was "F, D, DF +P." Dragon Punch.
And it was completely tongue in cheek commentary on numeric notation. It's not that serious.
;P

just picked up my pre order, man i have no fucking clue whats going on :lol

i tried using carl and litchi, i'm having trouble getting the control mechanics down, it's hard controlling the puppet and carl at the same time.

i need to get out of my SF mindset and start over by learning basic mechanics i guess, off to the instructional blu ray i go.

loves Arcade Sticks
The burst (while putting you in danger), should be used to keep you from getting killed/get out of bad situations (Carl loop, etc.)

It can also be used in an offensive situation... If you're about to break the guard libra meter on your opponent, you can use the burst as an unblockable to break em.

Yep, it is. I got as far as Rachel and then got raped. Playing arcade on hell is easier than doing score attack.

Yeah, she becomes master of zoning and queen bitch of counter throws.

I found it curious that even Japnese players mostly used it when down to 10% life. But now I see baiting to become more common at that point since when you hit someone with a starter at 10-15% life you can be sure he bursts. So I guess it will eventually become more common around the 20-25% mark.

70+ matches and I've yet to face a Carl or Litchi...and only 1 Rachel. Half of those 70+ games were against Noel though!

Ya I'm most likely going to be switching to Litchi. Think I just like her playstyle more.

strongly considering switching from Hakumen to Rachael, but not like either of those are ultra-used I think.

Wow, GameStop isn't so bad, the are shipping out my replacement copy today, I called to check and they gave me my new tracking number. And yes, this time it IS the right continent. :D

tkrn has a hilarious replay, he's around the top of the leaderboards(360) and an Arakune player. The second round ended with Bang doing the Fu Ru Kin Za and then landing on a bunch of bugs to finish him, but then he gets hit for about a 20 combo, all to his theme. :lol

On the online side of things, I switched from Jin(who I was 1 and 6 with :() to Noel, now I'm still at a pretty awful 4-10 but I'm atleast doing a lot better with her. I haven't seen any other Noel player though, still mainly Jin and Ragna, I fought a Rachel and two Tagers though. One of the Tager matches I had had some lag bursts, and I felt bad for cheesing two distortion drives at the end to barely win, but eh...he also used the barrier burst pretty much right at the round start if I was about to get him in a combo, so that helped. Been butter smooth greatness otherwise.

I also find it surprising that the top of the leaderboards is pretty diverse, a Litchi is the very top, and there's a few of Rachel and most surprisingly a lot of Carl.

bought the game today and got to play a few rounds, holy shit the grpahics are amazing. All vids and screens don't do this game justice

if only SF4 got the 2d treatment

I'm really enjoying the game as expected. But I do hope that this is not meant to replace Guilty Gear. I'm still quite attached to the characters and invested in the GG universe.

I'm hoping that BlazBlue become another quality fighter series in Arc Systems repertoire, and that they two series can co-exist in peace and only benefit one another.

Sweet. Thanks, I'll definately check that out.

I don't know who I want to main with. I need to spend a lot of time in training mode, but I'm leaning towards Bang, but I haven't even given Noel a shot. Question to experienced players out there: How important is the "dash cancel". I see some awesome combos done in the air, is this all done through dash cancels?

But Sega owns the rights to GG. How can this perfect world exist?

Dash cancels are when you cancel regular attacks with a dash. So it's not an aerial thing. As for importance I assume it matters on the character, but I couldn't tell you who at this point.

Hmmm, I really do like the game, and the voices arent nearly as irritating as some of the high level matches Ive seen(probably because I suck). I do, however, have a serious issue with most of the animations. They kinda, well, arent that great...especially by today's standards. Some of them are pretty nice, but most leave a big hole in my stomach, and dont nearly match the visual sex blitz of the graphics. Im enjoying it though, and I love the diversity in characters and movesets. Also, I like the pacing and control, as its frantic without controlling loosely or as "easy" as the action looks. My only other complaint would come from the music. Its not the quality of the tunes, but rather, their fit for the action. I wish there was a custom soundtrack feature, but ah well...maybe in an update one day.

Great game....time to get back to it.

THIS is the fighter I was waiting for. I got some serious blue balls after loving SF4 for a week, then realizing it's not the new hotness.

My god this game is incredible. Taokaka ftw, but I think I'll try out Bang and Litchi tonight.

Taokaka's just too much fun to play as...I've never felt compelled to put so much annoying pressure on the other guy in a fighting game. :lol
