The CW Flash has gotten bad

Season was rough. Some bad decisions that mirrored other Arrow stuff. Namely that too many of the cast have super powers or are getting in on the action now, and frankly, the cast needs a bit of trimming in general. First season had great Wells, 2nd season wasn't bad, but this one was kind of a bust, and aside from maybe Cisco, the regular supporting cast just doesn't grab my interest much in comparison to Arrow (and I'm not saying that as a huge fan of that show).

Finale should have written out a character or two, and instead appears to have added to Team Flash (though I don't mind Felton in the role in general).

For me, it's the melodrama. For instance, if AoS were a CW show,
Fitz and Simmons would be fighting every other episode. And crying. With slow camera zooms into their tearful eyes while the music swells.

In The Flash,
two of the characters literally had a contrived break up just so there was drama to be resolved in the very special musical episode that aired a week later.

That was so stupid! While I was watching the episodes I was baffled. Barry
proposes, Iris accepts, everything's good. Then she wants to break it off but then Barry breaks it off first and Iris is sad that he broke off what she was going to break off anyway. Then an episode later Barry proposes again, and Iris acts like this is the first time he's ever proposed and like it came out of nowhere. She's bursting with happiness. What was the point?

I'm also not a fan of the huge push they gave
Wally and how he so badly wanted to be a hero. They kept pushing and pushing and then they dropped him like a hot potato.

While on the subject of pushing a boring storyline, it happened in Supergirl as well.
Suddenly turning Jimmy Olsen into a badass out of nowhere was dumb and they kept pushing him to be a hero too. All of a sudden he's got the chops to go toe-to-toe with ex special forces?

Reverse Flash being such a solid villain right off the bat put the show on the wrong path and probably made the writers think every villain needed to be a speedster. Just gimme the Rogues and make this scene chewing SOB the main villain

Killing him off killed that whole universe for me. Whose fucking idea was that.

My problem with s3 was the fact that Barry was absolutely insufferable.
He's alright in the musical, but other than that it took a memory wipe to get him back to his old self, then that's reverted and he's insufferable again until the last 5 minutes of the finale.

Ya, it's pretty fucking terrible. I couldn't even get through season 1. I think I stopped after that episode where Captain Cold and the fire dude were detained by police. They may have been trying to go for corny but that shit was way too corny and campy.

It was my first intro to a CW superhero show and I think it's turned me off of them for good.

I already felt like season 2 was just more of the same instead of really changing things up, more speedster villain, more of the exact same stupid speed problems, more of the romance stuff that gets old really fast, more silly one-off villains in Barry's secret illegal murder prison.

After season 3 started off - again - exactly the same, I dropped the show

like

a

flash.

I'll check out S4 if they go without another silly speedster maybe, but I don't have much hope
without Cappy Cold.

Season 3 was easily the weakest.

Remember when a big lumbering van was driving so fast that both Barry AND Wally couldn't keep up with it?

Good times.

Don't even have to go that. My favorite moments each season is when you have a villain run away from the Flash, then Barry will speed outside, and the villain will have mysteriously managed to have gotten away. From a Speedster. Barry just gives up trying to find the villain because... reasons.

It's a petty nitpick for sure, but damn Barry, at least circle the perimeter or something lmao

Hush. He's the fastest man alive. The intro even says so! I wonder if they'll change that now.

I absolutely cannot start that character, he's the fucking worst, show is pretty bad, but I've seen all of it so I guess that makes me an idiot.

Since the Speed Force can do pretty much anything, can it please stop having Barry holding the idiot ball constantly in season 4? The guy is supposed to be a genius and a really talented forensic scientist, and yet he constantly makes the most stupid mistakes. It's like the writers realised that his powers make him stupidly powerful, but instead of writing creative ways around those powers, they just make him forget that he can use them.

A really interesting thread they could have gone with, after some scenes in season 1 that showed how his perceptions of time were changing, would have been that his powers make him constantly live in that accelerated state, where everyone else was almost standing still, and he had to spend almost all of his focus on just slowing himself down enough that he could actually interact with the rest of the world. It would've been an interesting twist on his powers, and it would explain away why he's slow on the uptake sometime, since he would be so busy just slowing himself down that he'd miss the smaller details. Plus, when he finally lets go and stops holding himself back it could've resulted in some incredible action scenes.

And finally, Barry and Iris together really doesn't work. They have pretty much zero chemistry with each other. Iris felt a lot more genuine in her interactions with Eddie than Barry, and Barry fit pretty well with Patty (disregarding her tendency to shoot first, ask questions never). He's even got more genuine chemistry with Oliver and Cisco than with Iris. So basing the entire plot of season 3 on their relationship just felt flat from the start.

Season 3 did drag a bit, which is a shame because it had some cool concepts paired with some poor pacing.

I've got faith, however. Show remains fun and having The Thinker as a villain could be a refreshing change of pace.

Flash Season 1 was indeed better than Season 2, but not dramatically, IMO.

This season Flash's quality dropped quite a bit and it was altogether too mopey and serious for its own good. That tone work for Arrow, but not for Flash. Ironically, Legends found the right tone and was much better because of it.

Arrow's season was great (right up there with season 2, IMO).
I like the cast on Flash, but they're best suited to a bit of levity and joy.

This show went from being genuinely great tv in seasons one and two to absolute garbage in season 3. I didn't look but did the writing team change for season 3? I only made in about ten episodes in before I just quit. Still not sure if I will go back and finish it. Maybe eventually.

CW does something with their shows that kils the quality of the product. Maybe major budget cuts that also effect writing and overall production.

Season 2 wasn't that great either. Basically pulled a Kylo Ren with Zoom; as soon as he was unmasked, just wasn't the same.

There was a shift in showrunners at the beginning of season 2 which seems to mark the decline of the show.

One thing that really bothers me is how contrived it is that Caitlin's frost powers turn her evil just because....reasons. I don't know why that particular one stands out to me but it does and it annoys the hell out of me. I know that's not Season 3 specific, but it plays a big role that season.

rory and snart ham it up big time and that's why i like them. For the most part I want cheesy fun in my super hero shows.

It's why i think arrow and everyone's insufferable brooding is shit (again even season 5 was garbo).

He was the best, especially when you start thinking about the character thinking these cheesy lines and actions ahead of time for maximum trolling.

OP is full of truth though, I loved season one and two was overall really good but three had so many moments where characters were moronic or examples like being outrun by a motorbike.

OPs "Who the fook is that?" Got me

Flash s3 main bad
Savitar reveal was a major let down for me

Newest season of Arrow was pretty good, Best Villian of all the CW shows this season

I don't think a single person likes the way Caitlin has turned out. Just disappointing af

This was a really massive pet peeve of mine, so fucking stupid and it goes against every other example of metas in the show.

CW's superhero shows are pretty formulaic. Each show has a particular scene that you get at least one of per episode.

"Someone Gets a Pep-talk" is Flash's "Clark and Lana talk past each other in the denouement".

I still enjoy Flash unlike most users in this thread, but I have to agree with you on this.

Flash S2 was downhill and S3 even more so

Arrow S5 is probably the best season yet

Legends S2 was pretty good and Reverse Flash can come back because speed force ⚡️

Supergirl is still wildly inconsistent but Odette Annable and the Legion of Super-Heroes means I'll tune in for S3

Black Lightning will start strong, the formula will dip and it'll suck for a while

Veelk loves to write long complaints that nobody takes seriously

Agents of Shield is worse than Iron Fist

The problem with the Flash show is that they're trying to re-make all the big Geoff Johns stories. It's either that or nothing.

Now, there are 70 years worth of Flash stories in the comics. All they have to do is go read some random-ass comics, takes some interesting stories and adapt them for the modern age. Then they will have an assortment of Flash episodes to tell that are all diverse and different from the usual speedster crap. But do they do that? No.

I remember this story where the Flash gives an Alien powers from the speed force so that he can fight for his home planet. And another story where Flash is paralyzed from the hospital and no one remembers the Flash at all, the lightning simply paralyzed him instead of giving him powers....all sorts of crazy stuff they can do but they rather just stick to their lame formula.

Now I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because you NEVER know what you're getting with the CW. Flash season 4 could probably be awesome and Arrow is crap again....who knows.

1. Nice new Avatar
2. Shield is good shit

Also some of you folks need to realize there is a difference between good television, and good for the types of shows the CW ones are.
Arrow S5 is good for what it is, it's not some super high quality show that rivals Game of Thrones, it's a dumb show about stupid shit detached from the real world, and it does it all so well. Shield and the Netflix shows are different from the CW stuff, as the CW stuff is pretty much just your unfiltered comic bullshit, and it's great.

True.... though I'm still waiting for Supergirl to be finally good.

The problem with the Flash is he's just too fucking powerful for consistency. One second he's dodging a fucking bullet like it's standing still and the next he's getting punched by a giant ape. You can't explain that.

I'm curious how they're going to handle it in Justice League.

it would be one thing if this happened once or twice, but it's seriously like 2/3 of all episodes. the bad guy shows up, does something evil, and then disappears in a half second and Barry's like "welp I guess they're gone"

Flash is just too stupid for me.

I don't need an Emmy quality show, I just want a show where every single character doesn't make the stupidest possible decision at all times.

Want contrived? This included the crossover with Supergirl
