Just finished watching it. I liked it a lot. They even did a Columbo homage. The plot was a little transparent, but when the rest of the episode is done well that's totally forgivable.

It was nice to get some back story from the Cardassian occupation and how Odo and Kira were connected. All of the characters (except Sisko, weirdly) are growing on me in the second season.

Bashir is less of a giant frat boy twat, even.

We watched Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Kahn last night. As good as I remember it. Kirk's liners to Kahn were pretty funny. "I am laughing at your superior intellect." "You've managed to kill everyone else but like a poor marksman you keep missing the target."

It's not perfect but it's really good. And of course it has the saddest moment in Trek history and one of the most sad moments in film, IMO.

I think Sisko and Jadzia Dax were the two hardest characters to pin down (with respect to their personalities) for the writers. By the end of season 3, though, Sisko should have really grown on you.

Civil Defense -- A buried anti-takeover program seizes control of DS9 and threatens the station with annihilation.

Prophet Motive -- Quark must determine why Grand Nagus Zek has become a free-wheeling philanthropist.

I liked Tribunal quite a bit, just cuz it's a TOB (Torture O'Brien) episode. Not really a big fan of the rest on that list to be honest, and I hate most Ferengi episodes.

I have the TOS series on VHS (given to me by my mom's friend), but I watched some of them so many times, that it just cuts off sometimes I miss the Elaan of Troyius episode...oh but i guess i could watch it on the internet come to think of it.

Kirk was vunerable and showed a real side of a person with flaws despite in TOS and most of the films being a super hero. However it was only when under the direction of Nick Meyes sadly. But in his two movies he did show a very very vulnerable Kirk who could connect with you as a person.

So Kirk WAS able to be shown as a flawed normal human, but only under Meyes. Well and City on the Edge of Forever.




Kirk was a character who was a real person who could be connected with and was filled with flaws and emotional problems, but almost none of the writers/directors in Trek took advantage of it. It was easier to play up Super Kirk.

Dont forget The Enemy Within, in which a transporter malfunction causes him to split into two separate Kirks with two separate personalities. I loved Kirk the most because he wasn''t perfect. I amsick of perfect heroes, they are far from human.

I have DVDs of season one of the ToS on loan from a friend. Good stuff.
Kirk is really cool in the show and doesn't really come off as the "rebel" trying to stick it to the man he does in some of the films. He's just a really good Captain, and totally Starfleet.

Despite the praise season four gets, I think that it barely rises to the quality set by the first two seasons of TNG. The augment thing, however, was probably the best thing they ever did on that show, at least as far as story arcs go.

The characters can only be as smart as the writers, and even the Vulcans are pretty damned stupid in that series. In fact, that's a problem that carried over from Voyager: the audience is always two steps ahead of the characters on screen.

People always hold up Duet as one of Trek's best episodes ever, but I remember reading in one of Leonard Nimoy's books about how in the 70's or 80's he directed a stage play concerning a major Nazi war criminal on trial for the deaths of thousands. In the end, it turned out the Nazi

I was really surprised that Duet ripped off that plot so blatantly.

Does anyone know what that play was called?

I used to love Voyager but after watching it on Virgin 1 recently I realise I was more in love with the premise than the show. Some of it was incredible but there was a lot that was quite the opposite, and after watching BSG I don't have much time for the clinality of ST. DS9 is the closest to the grit I love about BSG.

I agree. I used to watch a little Voyager, but my favorite that sticks out in my mind was when Tuvok was shown on the Excelsior with the cast from Star Trek VI. Voyager always had a "Lost in Space" vibe that I always hated. It was ONE story of them getting back home that ruled the series, and I disliked it.

DS9 was good, but I don't get the love it gets over TNG. When Jadzia Dax died I said forget it. The TNG finale was probably THE best Trek episode of all Treks.

Enterprise? I gave it a chance, and I liked the idea of Bakula as a Captain. Again, I liked the idea...but then when it seemed to me like "this" Enterprise did EVERYTHING first, I said "fuck you" and didn't watch again.

Who cares if it was ripped off when the execution and acting was so damn good? I think it's actually great that they adapted it to the Bajoran/Cardassian theme. Nana Visitor + Harris Yulin had some of best scenes in the series.

Darheel's line of "What you call genocide, I call a day's work." sent chills up my spine. When he broke down near the end... man. That was tour de force stuff there.

Yeah. Really I think most of Enterprise season 4's three-parters are quite decent, and would compare favorably with many of the Trek movies.

Interesting note: The writer of that episode went on to get offered (and take) a writing role on Enterprise.

Someday they'll figure out what to do with Sisko.

Saw Jem'Hadar and finished off Season Two. Good episode, and they finally begin teasing the real story.

Also saw the first of Season 3. Great episode. People firing phasers, people kicking ass, Odo going batshit, Romulans, cloaked vessels, oh my! The Defiant is sweet. Finally some starships up in this bitch.

That's how you start a season. Although Jake's costumes are as goofy as ever, it seems like they're finally getting a feel for Sisko.
