I Don’t think they themselves know yetthat announcement seems like it would have been the perfect time to at least give some good news with the bad news: let the fans know what new single player games they’re working on. Soften the blow.
They used how many years to figure out this???In ramping up to full production, the massive scope of our ambition became clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online we'd have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come
LOL
What have they done this gen?
Remasters and remakes?
They went from Sony top studio to mini-Bluepoint.
They have 2 teams. UC4 came out in 2016. TLOU2 in 2020. Between that period the other team should have been working on something, but 4-7 years later there is nothing to show but remasters and remakes. So all I can guess is that the bulk of the 2 teams are remasters/remakes factory lines while a small group of the studio has been attempting to get a concept for a new game/sequel greenlit.
TLOU 2 came out 3 years ago, did you expect them to magically pump out a brand new IP in less than 3 years?
edit: IAmAnAgnostic laugh if you're religious
The other teams are working on something. There’s 2 games. It wouldn’t be ready in just 3 years lol. We will get a teaser for one of them next year. And it will release shortly after. The remakes weren’t even being made by ND, they came in last minute and did final touches on PT 1, that was mainly a bend project. The TLOU2 remaster is being done by new hires onlyThey have 2 teams. They will. Book it.Should just throw some of what they made into a multiplayer for Part 3 which is presumably in development since they confirmed multiple single player games.
They will. Book it.
They never said “cancelled” they said “stopped development”. There’s your get out of jail free card.

Even if they tease something next year, it will most likely release the year after, that is 5 years into this gen, so instead of releasing the 2nd right after, they will delay it to release as a crossgen game with the PS6 launch. They will most likely release a single new game this gen, at best 2.The other teams are working on something. There’s 2 games. It wouldn’t be ready in just 3 years lol. TLDR: ND is full steam ahead on 2 new single player games. It takes time. Yall gotta stop trynna spin this to a negative
It's obviously cancelled. Some of it may be repurposed into a smaller scale MP mode, but it will be nothing like the original vision. They will. Book it.

And that’s what I will never understand. The forever game. It’s stupid. I don’t want to play a game for 100 hours. Let alone 5000. No game is that good. Gaas is essentially a bad idea.No. If the multiplayer is not GAAS, people will not stay and play it, simple as. They'll go back to the games that actually feed them content weekly and monthly.
Bungie gave Naughty Dog their suggestions. They have many years of data to back up their claims. The decision would lie on ND: do you continue making this game, knowing that you'll release it, have some "big" launch month, and then everyone abandon it, leaving it with a 1000 playerbase or you have 400 devs constantly working on it?
The MP of 10 years ago is dead. Better get to grips with it. It's either GAAS and a respectable amount of players, if you are lucky and talented, or a player count that doesn't pay for its own server maintenance.
Just making room for Halo Infinite and Starfield on the PS5
