The Nintendo Switch 2 | Officially Announced (Switch 2 Direct Scheduled for April 2nd)

Released over 12 years ago. Switch is now one of the best selling consoles of all time, this just looks like a variant of the same thing. People will eat this up, and have been anticipating it for a long time.

Switch brought a mass market to Nintendo again, after their failures of the WiiU.

Switch 2 is just an iterative design/console. That's not going to get a lot of mainstream people, a slight graphical upgrade isn't good enough.

And people will just walk in a store, see the thing, and think hey we already had that at home for 8 years.

As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, why fix it! I don't mind the similar design and new Joycon connection. Hopefully the drift is fixed. My only true complaint. Why does the screen still have such a large border? The tech has been there for so long (ie phones), yet there is no edge to edge screen when gaming?

Yeah. I don't care for the disclaimer that not all Switch software will work on Switch 2- why? What reason could there be for that? So it's software emulation and not native I guess?
Because some switch games use the ir sensor on the joycons no idea if that’s included on the new ones. Tabeoja uses the ir camera quite a lot for scanning stuff.

Probably will be a tiny handful of games that won’t work properly.

I guess with all of the leaks and shit, Nintendo is like "HERE IT IS. NOW LEAVE US ALONE!"

I like the blue/red accents of the joycons. Very subtle. Guess we'll need to wait longer to get more "official" info.

Nice little teaser, Nintendo sure knows how to string people along. The full reveal will be something t watch.

It was nice to see that Switch 2 is a little bigger, the joycons appear to be improved and I do hope the infamous drift has been fixed for good. Beyond that, pretty much what everyone expected.

Wasn't N64 gray? At least my. I had one from Gradiente before selling.

But GC indeed have black and imo GC colors are amazing.
The default controller was gray, but the box was black-ish. At least to my man eyes. Then again, I'm told I frequently refer to dark blue as 'black', so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And, yes, Wii and GCN black options were awesome

Switch OLED and Switch Lite have sold a combined total of 15 million units in Japan alone. The original Switch has sold over 20 million units in Japan. Small variations in design are not off putting to the average consumer and they're still willing to spend money because they find value in what is on offer overall.

Kinda looks like it will be a cross-gen title

Switch 2 needs exclusive games to move. If Nintendo isn't confident enough in their product to wean themselves off the safety tit of Switch 1, they will own themselves.

They might feel that NS2 does not yet have a sufficient install base (none) to drop Kart on. They prefer to unleash Kart to a base of clients already prepared to buy it en masse. Their launch lineup better be fucking gold with everything else, if they do that.

Well we know its bigger, the joycons are different-ish, and the dock is different-ish, and the Mario Kart game looks like a current Switch game both on the switch 2 and docked. We also know that it will play Switch and Switch 2 games.

So all in all, a meh reveal TBH when you're trying to make a big first impression. Guess we'll see in April what we can expect in terms of tech specs, especially for how docked games will play. With the Direct in April, my guess is an August or September release. $499 is what my gut is telling me....

I didn’t expect such a lackluster presentation. Nintendo felt like a celebrity forced into an interview. It's also interesting to still get excited over a Mario Kart in 2025.

June release most likely, guessing they are having trouble getting games ready and getting enough hardware at launch. New Mario Kart seems way too much like mk8.
