The Nintendo Switch 2 | Officially Announced (Switch 2 Direct Scheduled for April 2nd)

This is exactly what I was hoping for. The Switch might be my favorite console released and being able to bring over my library on top of the games they'll keep releasing has already sold me a Switch 2.

- Joycons are bigger and might actually fit my hands.
- Mouse functionality screams Mario Maker 3.
- Screen is bigger, possibly 1080p but I'm fine with 720P.
- Rumors have been that the sticks are hall effect sticks, though I never experienced any drift in thousands of hours of use on mine, I know most others have.

I don't like the thin connector for the Joycons, it looks like a point of failure over time. I'm likewise curious about how long those little slider pads will last against a kid dragging it over a textured coffee table.

When they say some switch games wont be compatible what possibly controllwise wouldnt work with this system it looks exactly the same . I guess its to make you buy the switch 2 version of same game or a hidden feature - Glasses free 3d screen is installed

It could just mean certain licensed games won't be compatible due to licensing. Nintendo historically has been pretty decent with BC.

I get why they showed Kart. It's the big popular game, it's cross-gen, it doesn't really "reveal too much". Except last time, they teased a graphically impressive new Mario game on the screen. So of course now we are just like...that's it? You showed it with a game that looks kinda samey to a game we've been playing since WiiU? People will wonder if this actually represents the system, like those Odyssey clips did. I don't really think it does, so it's a bad reveal. But I don't think they planned it that way, they just dumbly reacted into it that way, thinking they can do the "real reveal" later, but...the first impression is the first impression.

Edit: PeteBull PeteBull this applies to your post below lol. I agree. But comparing GT to Kart is just a pointless exercise in any context.

Hold on did you just graphically compare gt7 to mario kart?

I like a lot of your posts but respect level crashing
Maybe its just some backwards compatible/deluxe version of mario kart 8, and that is why it looks crazy unimpressive, who knows, we will know more on 2nd april when we see direct, so far extremly let down here, man, not gonna lie, i hoped new switch will at least easily beat base ps4 even in handheld mode =/

I do like the look of the new console, that black with the red and blue under the analog sticks is really sexy. Very curious to see if the Joycons will act as mice, that would be really awesome. The big thing that is a bit of a bummer is that MK 9 (assuming that is what it is) doesn't really look too much different from 8, so it really could be a cross gen game. April is a hell of a fucking wait, but I am definitely excited to see more.

Even if it wasn't a crossgen game, I'm surprised that peoples expect Nintendo to just make a leap in visual fidelity just because the power is there :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You could give them a 4090 and pokemon company would still output this

I only really have hope for the Zelda team and Monolith soft to push things further but even then, they'll never be like Sony's The order 1886, Uncharted 4 or Last of Us Part 2 graphic powerhouses. Hell, most 3rd parties aren't even on that level to be honest.

Probably stuff like Labo and RingFit since the new joycons are bigger.

Some games will start and run, but have broken features. For example in Resident Evil Revelations you will no longer be able to reload using the IR sensor.

The new joycon won't fit in Ring Fit Adventure and it can't detect your heart rate. Even if the system runs the cart.

There will be numerous situations like this. Most people who just play normal games will probably never know the difference if they never said anything, but it is factually not 100% compatible so they have to cover their ass.

Huh. I had no idea that was a thing. Won’t the new one also have an IR sensor? Or is it gonna be different?

Switch 2 does not have an IR sensor. But it appears to have a new mouse-like optical sensor that may also allow it to be used like a Wii remote.

Yeah, it just got revealed, and we still don't know exactly how it works.

Pretty bad post. Nintendo squeezes every drop they can out of the power they have, punching above its weight. When has it not happened?

You had to specify a different company Nintendo lacks the authority to control with their standard of game development to make your point, which is telling.

June release most likely, guessing they are having trouble getting games ready and getting enough hardware at launch. New Mario Kart seems way too much like mk8.

October or November
Try 2026 (at least) for anyone that doesn't want to be scalped. Anticipating Nintendo to pull a “didn’t anticipate the demand”, with maybe a “chip shortage” thrown in.

Underwhelming reveal, real deal will be April Direct which makes possible release window interesting. June maybe? September possible too but once we hit October and the looming shadow of GTA6 all bets are off, nobody wants to release anything in it's window.

Not all Nintendo studios

They find the sweet spot of visuals for their art style vs budget and go with it. I'm not surprised one bit that MK9 was basically done on Switch 1 and they sat on it.

I'm fine with their approach. I do not expect Nintendo to ever put a studio at risk with $200M budget for a The Order 1886, Uncharted 4 or The Last of Us part 2 graphic powerhouse. That's not them. They find other quirks with the power than graphical fidelity, such as TOTK physics. Totally fine with that.

Monolith soft is THE studio at Nintendo that seems to be the most tech literate. They helped Zelda team also for the engine. But we don't know their ceiling either. Their ceiling is probably limited by the budgets Nintendo will deploy for a project, and it'll never be Sony levels. In fact, I would say that even Sony has lifted the foot from the pedal on PS5 compared to their peak of PS4. Game budgets have skyrocketed.

Given that rumors were always about a supposed Switch 2, I never expected a step up in innovation like before. But even without said innovation, more performance is more than welcome. I can't stand the constant shimmering and flicker due to low res and AA. And, Jesus, even in point and click adventures like Broken Sword the Switch can't hold a stable FPS and gets FPS drops. Utterly shite performance.

That's the most meh console reveal of all time. Literally just "here's our new Switch which is exactly like the old Switch but a tiny bit different".
I actually quite liked the video and found it very creative and spot on what I wanted to know.

And if that game is MK9, it also looks exactly like MK8.

Unless it’s $100 usd for the base game…

Yeah, everyone thinks Nintendo is infallible but this isn’t an inspired console from them

I don’t know why their (casual) consumer base will feel the need to upgrade

Everything is super safe and that MK9 footage just isn’t doing it

The first console with attachable controllers allowed for each joycon to get stuck if inserted into the wrong side, hoping they learned to be a bit more careful this time around.

Since they're using the same plastic dock design that scratches the plastic screen, I'm guessing they didn't learn anything and neither will the people buying this.
