You're questioning Nintendo's strategy as if you know how to market the stuff better than Nintendo, which itself is hilarious.
Pretending Nintendo is good at marketing?? They sell because their games are great, not because they are marketing geniussus.

Well we're discussing the reveal, man people like you are exhausting. You'd really prefer it if this thread was nothing but people like you, wetting their nintendo pajamas because of how amazing this looks :D? Of course this is a place to discuss Nintendo's strategy. It's hilarious just how quickly company drones like you forget that yes, Nintendo does make mistakes and is indeed not infallible :D :D

Anyone else notice the joy cons sliding around on the ground? I bet there are sensors that let it work like a mouse.

I have no idea why, but that’s my guess.

There was a patent showing that functionality (other people are mentioning this ATM), so yes I'd assume that's a new function of the Joy-Cons. Pretty cool IMHO, especially if it's something you can do by default.

Imagine if it somehow makes Switch 2 a more desired console for FPS games than PS5 or Xbox 😂

The simple fact that the only way to play the next iteration in the Mario Kart franchise is on the Switch 2 is going to be incentive enough for many people to purchase it at launch

This isn’t confirmed, I bet MK9 releases on switch 1

And…many families are content with MK8

It serves a purpose as a party game, what does MK9 bring to the table that MK8 doesn’t?

This isn’t some big new adventure game

Including tax and the game, it’ll at least be $500

But it looks like a switch 1 and many games releasing on it probably will also run on switch 1

MK9 doesn’t look like a generational leap or anything. I said this before but I expect tons of cross gen games from Nintendo.

The hook to get people to upgrade isn’t really there at the moment
Based on your own subjective opinions. Remember how many on here said the original Switch would fail, the core minorities are so out of touch with the masses.

You are saying they are doing it wrong with the Switch 2 reveal, yet the likes ratio says otherwise and boasting how Nintendo is "scared shitless".

Quite hilarious that you think I am sort of Nintendo drone when I haven't own a Nintendo console since the Wii. I was also skeptical with Switch 1, only to start becoming a fan of it when when I start to see the abundance of great games coming to the console.

As far as what new features MK9 offers and it being a cross gen Switch title is obviously speculation on your part, and it’s not really worth discussing until we know further.

Many families are content with MK8 until this holiday season when the Switch 2 is the hot new item and MK9 is the hottest software title, and kids don’t want to be the only one of their friends who doesn’t have it.

Depends on their plans with MK9. I'm guessing it's more than a graphical upgrade, probably a lot of online elements they have learned from their 99 series. If Switch 1 can handle what they are bringing, you are probably right, if not it will stay Switch 2 exclusive.

JFC @ some of these takes. Guys, they said more info in a Direct on 4/2 - so relax. Also people seem to still misunderstand Nintendo’s marketing strategy which is to capitalize on near-term hype while keeping news about anything more than 6 months out to a minimum. Nintendo isn’t going to eclipse DKCR and XBCX with this, they’re finishing off FY24 pushing those games and then starting fresh with Switch 2 megahype early in FY25. I’m expecting a late April or early May launch date.

No Oled? No buy. If Nintendo thinks I’ll pay a premium for their lcd garbage only to rebuy an outdated Oled model down the line, they’ve lost the plot. As it stands, the switch 2 is already underpowered and outdated at launch. If they can’t be bothered to launch with an Oled model, I can’t see any justifiable reason to purchase it.

I’ll still most likely get it day one but this has killed all my hype for the system.

Lame reveal showing nothing with more info over and a half months away?

Yeah, that’s not how to do this.

Sure they will.

They don’t want their software sales held back by a platform starting over from scratch

It’s basic business sense, and Nintendo is pretty good at business

N is usually smart enough not to cross gen. That's the type of good business sense that got them here. Now, I'm worried they are getting all 4D chess like Sony.

The issue is that they made 8 on Wii U and skipped a whole gen. The leapfrog created a conflict. Kart is "supposed" to launch after a gen is established. So they have a base to rack up sales, and it increases hardware momentum. Launching with exclusive kart might be spooky for sales, but good for NS2 leverage, which is their future.

Had we called it "basic business sense" to release Super Mario World on NES day one, because SNES hadn't a big base yet, some would have argued that our definition of basic sense wasn't compatible with theirs.

Hmm, it does not look like a true successor to Switch one, it is more like Switch pro, just like Iphone pro and pro max or ps5 and ps5 pro. Well anyway what is important are the games.

One analogue controller and a mouse is my preferred way to play. Metroid would be good played like that.

I think the switch 1 was a very good system already. They decided not to change the way of switch. So this is a switch 2 and not a console directing in another way than it's predecessor.

So I am going totally alright with this way.
Good improvements, better graphics and more solid unique features is all I want.

And I think Nintendo has made their homework very meticulous. There will be new games utilizing these functions.

Hell man, how much fun I had with my kids and these cardboard box games. Labo. Awesome ideas, well crafted and always trying to reach other types of gameplay fun than a new call of duty.

I like this reveal and I am counting the time since I can holding it in my hand.

Alright man, listen, I'm sorry, I'll stop throwing shade at your favorite billion dollar company and their MarketingU geniuses now. You can get an unsoiled Nintendo Pajama now.

Well I too am sorry for questioning your genius marketing skills over the people at Nintendo.

Nope. There’s 160 million switches out there and switch 2 is going to be pricey

There’s zero chance that their games are going to be state of the art visually anyways, so it’ll be cross gen unless some title NEEDS exclusive controller support for the new mouse features

Third party exclusives will be much more common for Switch 2 than Nintendo ones.

I suspect the next proper AAA Zelda game is the first proper Switch 2 exclusive, and that’s clearly years away

No full backwards compatibility either. Now I'm just waiting for the hardware specs to be revealed for the final hit :lollipop_expressionless:

What's their history with cross gen?

I personally don't remember there being a lot of 3DS and Wii U games that also released on the DS and Wii?

That's a serious question as well.

Yeah, MK9 is 100% cross-gen. It literally looks like MK8. That's gonna be the case with a lot of games for at least the first 3-4 years. Which makes sense, they have a user base of 150 million that they won't want to leave behind any time soon.

So Switch 2 games will mostly be Switch games with better image quality and maybe 60fps instead of 30 if we're lucky (MK9 will be 60 on both though).

Nintendo isn't going to make the mistake of fucking around with cross-gen like Sony and MS did.

Oh, they absolutely will. They would in fact be very stupid not to. Again, there are 150 million Switches out there.
