Quick, I need an excuse why I can't go in to work today, lol. Nah it sucks, but I have to go in.
Played for about an hour and a half last night. Definitely feels like next-gen in so many ways, the city is just alive! Physics and AI make for so many funny situations. Going to jump into the multiplayer later on when I get home. GOTY so far. (obviously)

on the one hand, I am VERY unfamiliar with a lot of that soundtrack. On the other hand, I have always appreciated games with great soundtracks and there ability to open me up to new music (THPS3 probably being one of the best examples).Keyser Soze said:

What I was impressed by last night is that cover objects take the toll from the damage. Like in this one mission my partner and I shot a hole in the wall some guy was covering behind, leaving us openings to hit him even behind his cover. So awesome. You'd expect games like Gears of War, that are build on that system to do it, but I wasn't expecting an open world game like GTA to have this kind of detail.

Any PS3 owners wanna comment on "classic control" scheme?
Just picked up GTA . Time to install and play it. Got it for the PS3 because that's what system I have. The whole launch has been kind of surreal... going back and thinking about the trailers and the huge media blackout. I guess Rockstar is one of the developers that can launch a game like this.

Lighting effects and subtle textures, I'm very impressed. Its even hard to see 2 of the same people. Also I love how the dialogue changes if you do a mission more than once, just goes to show the attention to detail.

impressions after 2 hours play:
1. graphics:
very nice for the most part. There is a lot of object variety, each area has a distinct quality, lighting is excellent. The screen is a little blurry on the ps3 version, but I am not sure if this really detracts from the graphics. Framerate is okay, like previous entreys. No loading and the vast scale of the game makes it all the more impressive. Not the best looking game Ive played, but by far the best looking GTA, on release.
2. characters:
Niko is by far the most interesting GTA protaganist, he actually comes across as somewhat sympathetic. I can understand why RS toned down the customizability, they wanted to define their character more concretely.
3. story:
Great intro. Game has been slow since, but havent delved in deeply yet.
4. gameplay:
cars took some getting used to, but driving in first person is really awesome now, some really intense and exhilirating experiences.
Haven't done any shooting yet, but hand to hand is as clunky as ever.
5. soundtrack:
excellent as always, femi Kuti in there is a nice surprise, but am I right in assuming that there is no Gogol Bordello or Balkan Beat Box?!?!?!?!? Two crazy Balkan fusion bands from New York and they aren't represented...? Seems like a lost opportunity, both would fit this game better than alot of the music Ive heard so far.
Overall the game seems great. Its pretty clearly GTA next gen, there has been many improvements, but the formula is pretty much the same. The game hasn't blown me away at all yet, but I am enjoying the experiance, and expected to be suitably impressed the deeper I delve into it. Honestly, this will be the first GTA I finish since 3.

I love it, Liberty City Rock and Classics are great stations and my personal favorites so far. The talk back and comedy in general is definitely better then San Andreas's stations. So far i think its as good as Vice City's Sound track if not better.

omg. that really sucks man...

has anyone had any luck with the Social Club? I linked my 360 gamercard, but when I go to the GTA4 section it says Sorry you need to go online to update.. im guessing its just taking a long time to update since its being overloaded but if its working for others maybe its an error on my end
Is there a way to aim while driving(with the reticle) without firing? Hitting the LB on 360 will just start spraying bullets recklessly and I have to fine-tune while wasting ammo.
Also, how do you deactivate car alarms?(Or can you?). I took Michelle on the first date, lost sight of the car I drove her in with, ended up stealing some fancy sports car and the alarm was blaring the entire drive so I pushed every button I could to do something about it and accidentally shot a bullet which scared the shit out of her and she dove out of the car and ran directly into traffic and got steamrolled by an oncoming vehicle(totally hilarious moment).
Had to redo the whole date though.

I had the same issue, I then played GTA 4 a bit, came back and the thing had updated to see my Gamertag and the stats worked, maybe have a go with that?

On previous GTA games it was sort of random, the alarms kinda died after a while, dunno about GTA IV yet, i carjack so I don't get the alarms,
