Titanfall Review Thread

For those who've read some of the less positive reviews, what negatives are the reviewers pointing out? I'm going to laugh if the only problems with the game are Xbox One exclusive such as the stuttering and screen tearing.

Noooooo! I wanted Titanfall to fail!

j/k

Awesome that it's getting good reviews. This game definitely plays like a 9/10 game. It's going to be my new go to fps on pc. Was getting so tired of battlefield and the whole modern fps trend.

I really really wish sites were legally required to (or at least would bother at all) to disclaimer this kind of stuff. This is a totally awesome/depressing example of why people are cynical about cash influencing review scores. Not that they're not allowed to score it a 10/10 but a least be a little more subtle, christ.

If ever there was a website that shouldn't need to dislaimer something...

Sites get paid for advertisements, no doubt.

It's a classic conflict of interest. Simple as that.
I'm sure there's very little shady shit going on these days, but I do still remember Gerstmann getting the boot for scoring K&L too low.
Of course sites do, but the journalists writing the reviews don't. It's not like they look at the homepage to see who is currently advertising before they submit their review.

Uhm, you should perhaps be more critical as well and think to yourself when does a game ever really get a 10, let alone blindly accepting it. The 9s I can understand, but 10?

My point was that all review scores are equally meaningless if we're talking about what a game really "deserves." Might as well rate the game Green out of Rainbow, Cool out of Yes, King of Clubs out of 21, etc.

Seems pretty much what I expected. Very excited to start playing at midnight.

Much respect for the outlets that are waiting on final reviews.

The biggest negatives I've seen are the relatively small number of weapons (compared to CoD and BF) and the campaign being a little shallow.

Now im scared for infamous. The scores are good. I predicted an 85 a few mots ago. Lets see how close I get.

I'm not. I will not be surprised if it gets a low to mid 70s score, just the way that coverage has been for the game.

Expecting a lot of "gameplay is not next-gen enough" and "more of the same" comments in reviews.

Also expecting to enjoy the heck out of the game and won't be surprised if I consider it to be the best ps4 game released yet.

EGM's staff is probably 100% different now, but like 10 years ago (when it was still primarily print...) I recall Dan Hsu writing an editorial about how other outlets were letting advertisers control their reviews but that EGM would never do that. He's not their Editor in Chief anymore (or employed by them), but hopefully that attitude still stands.

Looks like great reviews, but that's no surprise considering what we saw in the beta. Congrats Respawn, hopefully the servers hold up well tomorrow.

Titanfall lives up to all the expectations established when it was first revealed, in a way that so few games are able ever to accomplish, and represents nothing short of first-person shooter multiplayer taken to new heights.

An evolution of the core Call of Duty concepts rather than a revolution for multiplayer shooters as a whole, Titanfall feels, in a way, like a hyper-budgeted mod that will only truly see its aims realised in the inevitable sequel.

did they play the same game lol

It's almost like...different people played the game!

Unless I'm mistaken, all of these were done during an EA review event, and as such are not worth putting much value into as they're not necessarily representative of the live environment all of us are living in.

Battlefield 4 got a bunch of 8-9's. AFAIK the only reviews to mention any bugs or stability issues at all, were published at least a week later.

Ahh... That I can agree on. Is anybody pointing out the lack of any player customization, clan tags, etc... That the standard competitive FPS has now?

Lower scores than I would've predicted for the second coming of Jesus Christ in the form of a FPS/Multiplayer only game packing the power of the cloud.

You're right, just their bosses do. A boss never exerts any influence on the work floor. Nope.

I don't think they're meaningless, and I understand what you mean. A review site's score is of their own opinion, and I can very well retain my own, I get that. But to give a perfect score is far more unreasonable. While you can make a score whatever it is you want, within the realm of reviewing, it's a bit much. I have always disliked perfect scores, and I think back to MGS4 and GTA4 when I say this.

Not sure what you mean by this. It's apparently a very fun game so yes the reviews will reflect that. Are you saying the review scores are misrepresenting the actual game?

I'm saying that the game is going to review very well, and lo and behold it is reviewing very well. That's it. Nothing more.

Gametrailers got the short end of the advertisement stick

Why not read them yourself?

Aside from the tech issues, the two Campaigns are 2-hours long each and follow the same exact storyline, with no user-decisions affecting any outcomes or even the current scripting situations.

You could kill every single enemy on a mission map, and the story will continue as if you are in retreat due to heavy losses...

Honestly I want to see what Xbox/PC Gaf thinks of it. It's hard to cut through some of the hyperbole in some reviews.

New heights?

Reinvigorates a stale genre?

Ok...

I don't own an Xbox console and my PC friends won't touch Origin so I may be SOL until Titanfall 2 if that comes to PS4. If it makes it...

It's almost like...different people played the game!

different people might be different people, but the game stays the same.
it cant at the same time revolutionize mp shooters and be a refinement of cod...

BUT i already got from (2 pages ago i think?) that EGM is on MS payroll!

Reviews look good, but this is odd for me. I figured the reviews would come in a little after everyone has had a chance to play the game in the wild considering how well online games fair upon release. Especially when they come from EA.
