Titanfall Review Thread

People are melting down and calling bias on the reviews when the average is only 87%? Really?

It's not like the game is being showered with perfect scores or anything.

Prob more to do with reviewing a MP game in controlled conditions and refusing to mention bad performance at times like some sites did. 87 is good though,m just not the big revolution MS is expecting, they have way too much vested in TF, it's not going to do much for the x1.

any reviewers complain about no SP but the game still costing $60?

Doesn't it still have some form of a campaign despite not having SP? I can't keep this and Destiny straight...

Regardless, I think the vast majority of people don't give a fuck about single player in FPSs any way, so it's a hard thing to knock a game for. Did South Park lose points last week for being single player only?

You got this post IN, and now I wouldn't be surprised to see you OUT of Gaf.

I think the only thing going against this game right now is that it costs $60 for a multi-player only experience that doesn't go very far beyond what people get in COD or BF.

Now, the price doesn't bother me much as I enjoy the game immensely. But it doesn't really feel like a $60 game to me. Lets see if they add a decent amount of content for free after launch.

Map scale is ringing some UT 2003 bells.

i get that this isnt exactly what was expected as next gen graphics... and yet, it looks pretty fucking terrific to me (at times). certainly nothing to bag it for

The game is from EA and exclusive on MS platforms (so no Sony or Steam), there was zero chance that there would not be multiple threads freaking the fuck out over everything.

Looks like a blast to play, but then again I thought Shadowrun was one of the best MP games ever so I might be broken in the head :P

Wish I had taken advantage of sales, don't want to waste $60 to find it runs like shit on my old PC

Despite the silence, I still wouldn't be shocked if 360 numbers > X1 by the end of April. I expect PC to have a good share of the pie too.

That not having single player did not affect these scores at at hence why they are so inflated or that these reviewers are judging this game solely on multiplayer because single player is really a tutorial for COD's and Battlefield-esque games. Mid you this game to me would have been epic had there been single plater and not a light story tacked on multiplayer the way Brink did.

Before BF3 the numerous BF games were MP only. I don't remember that harming their reviews.

A game should be reviewed on the things it put forth. It not having a SP mode shouldn't be an issue since we have known this to be true since the game was announced.

Doubtful since it already has a season pass lined up.

Honestly, it would have been cool if Respawn went more in the direction of TF2 or KZSF by monetizing cosmetics or additional game modes instead of maps.

Thankfully for Titanfall fans, this game isn't designed to be competitive.

I dunno, I could see a competitive match being pretty intense thanks to the fast pace and smallish scale. It's something I'd honestly love to try.

Do we even know if it's possible to arrange a custom match between two parties? I would hope so...

I apologize if this has been asked already, but is there any indication of whether we can expect separate reviews for the 360 version later? I'm just curious to see the differences since I'm not sure if I'll be able to run this on my PC well but I still want to play it eventually.

Art direction is king and forever will be. If you give the Killzone Shadow Fall engine to the team of Spark Unlimited, I guarantee you that is not going to be a marvel to look at.

I'm sure Eurogamer/Digital Foundry will do a comparison

It's way too early to even fathom a score for Destiny. I hope it's a great game, though.

I think COD is going to start losing momentum soon thanks to Ghosts.

If TF becomes a fully multi platform series after this first entry, I can see TF and Destiny being the two main competitors trying to take a big bite out of COD and one of them might actually succeed.

Curious to see how the 360 version fares!

The complete silence about this version is an interesting marketing strategy. I mean they're basically ignoring an 80 mil install base in the hopes of pushing XB1 units (at least that is how it appears to me). I don't know how it'll turn out for them.

First of all I've seen frame rate dips already in SS from the Gamespot and IGN demo playthroughs.

Second, one is a finely tuned multiplayer game, the other is an open world single player game. They're apples and oranges.

Short review?

Sure.

I've had some problems with the game though they turned out to be driver related

I can't seem to run it max on Sli-580's which is disappointing however the game feels nice and fluid, the parkour is fun and the gunplay is what you'd expect from Ex-Infinity Edge, it's great.

I've had no bugs so far and I can see this easing off other games for me for the time being with only Dark Souls 2 possibly matching my interest.

Titanfall may not match the 'next-gen' hype but it's fantastic, the level design is just as great as the titans feel to pilot. 9/10.

What does GAF believe the life time sales of Titan Fall will be?

I think that if Shadow Fall life time sales are greater than the Titan Fall life time sales I would consider it somewhat of a failure.

Reason I say this is because it feels like Microsoft is betting more on Titan Fall then Sony ever has on Shadow Fall.

Microsoft: Have you seen Titan Fall?

Versus

Sony: Yeah, Shadow Fall will be a launch title.

I can't ever compare Titan Fall sales to Destiny because Destiny is going to be on far more systems than Titan Fall.

Ghosts has a very lukewarm reception in the player base, which is why BF4 stumbling with so many bugs really hurts, as I feel this was the best shot at taking a huge chunk of the CoD base. But now Titanfall is prepped pretty well as frustration peaks with both of those.

...as long as the azure stuff holds up, anyway.

Don't really think Destiny will get the same audience. It's more of Borderlands than COD.

I love that you and question the credibility of one of the biggest publications in Canada that's been around for over a century because they didn't give a score that you liked, while you have no issue with Polygon. Who btw was just $750,000 pile of cash in MS bank account a couple years ago. That doesn't matter, because you liked their score.

I only see one cage rattled.

I will be surprised if both of you still have your account by tomorrow

Uhmmm.. did you not see me put them with Yahoo news? I'll also put them with the NY Times and LA Times. News papers and video game reviews. I don't think any of them go good together.

Uhm.. Polygon? Didn't they give it a 9? Far from a 10. A 9 for this game looks about right. From the hours I put in the Alpha and Beta, I too would give it a 9. Maybe a 9.125. Oh.. and get ready to be surprised. I have no idea why I wouldn't have an account here tomorrow.

Checking the midnight lines tonight while I pick up DS2, these metrics usually tell a good story about whether or not the game has penetrated the market.

Completely forgot about Battlefield. I think BF is very steadily gaining momentum and scooping up a lot of COD players. Which isn't surprising since BF4 is an excellent shooter that puts Ghosts to shame. And it looks like TF puts it to shame as well.

I honestly think it will get the same scores. This is Bungie we are taking about.
I agree with your second sentence, but not your first. Either because of that crazy Activision generated hype and influence, or because of the game's own quality, I see Destiny being 90+ easily. If there's one thing reviews cream themselves for (as you can tell by media's complaint with Titanfall) is content and scope. If your marketing can boast those, I feel like you easily score higher than you would normally.
I'm pretty sure Titanfall will have more sales. It's also on PC and 360.
Not even the slightest chance.

I don't know if this is global but at least on my country you can get a free copy of Killzone Shadow Fall just by buying a Dual Shock 4. Considering that, probably KZ:SF is going to be close to 2M or something.

I am looking forward to trying Titanfall sometime (on sale PC because $60 is much too high) but it is difficult to trust these reviews after BF4. Hopefully once the price goes down there will be plenty of user feedback and stable servers.

I just hope those framedrops are not on PC ...

Good scores overall. I expected much higher due to "game of the show" awards all over place.

My only issue is content to value proposition. Will probably pick up when hit 40$

Super curious to see how Destiny will compare score-wise.

Simply having the option of single-player makes Destiny more appealing to me, assuming the fundamentals are in place. On that level, it'll be hard to compare them directly (sort of like comparing different genres, even though in most ways they're so close to one another). I can't justify the initial asking price on Titanfall, even though the play-style looks so appealing.

There is a 7.................
Maybe I missed it.

You think Titanfall will sell more than Destiny?

Don't think so. Since it on both PS4 and Xbone, Destiny will probably have better sales.

Anyway, I just feel the crowd going for Destiny and the one going pure MP game like Titanfall will not overlap much.

I was responding to the question of sales vs Killzone (not Destiny).

I don't see much of a difference. Destiny is a co op based game that can be played solo but it's not recommended as Bungie says you won't get the full experience, and it's online only too.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did. The only reason I brought it up is because Shadow Fall sales to date is pretty impressive for that franchise. Titan Fall is a new franchise and Microsoft seems to be betting a lot on it.
I just wanted GAF opinion on what I originally posted.

Well for example, I'd say exploration (single or co-op) appears to have a much greater role in Destiny than Titanfall. Again, different, but not universally "better" depending on what the player wants.

In Sessler's review the AI looks PITIFUL! And I mean absolutely pitiful.....

They just look so dumb an clueless. Terrible.

Other than that the game looks terrific, but those AI? Damn.

Both are excellent games. MS probably has higher stakes riding on Titanfall because it's cemented image being the go to online shooter console.
