Titanfall Review Thread

Aren't they literally cannon fodder to boost your titan timer?

For that imment SingleDigitFall! Am I doing it right? :). But seriously depending on who you ask then yes its fodder or no its just dumb ai which was touted to be advanced. I mean if it was me they can just have a timer for each person when their titans will arrive and each time you kill a real player few seconds are taken off. By the end of the game every player gets at least one titan already... Use that cloud/resource/magical unicorn to get 60fps locked or many other stuff.

In Sessler's review the AI looks PITIFUL! And I mean absolutely pitiful.....

They just look so dumb an clueless. Terrible.

Other than that the game looks terrific, but those AI? Damn.

After the Alpha I said it from the get go... They should make the AI grunts like Driveatars. They should use all of our playstyles that play online, and make them grunts. We will all be Jango Fetts. Clones of all of us. that would be cool.

While that sounds really cool, I feel like Respawn would be worried with that ruining the balance, as some grunts might get really OP out of nowhere, while others continue to run into walls on the other team.

I think reviews are inline with a fun game with not the best graphics which is mp only.

I think some of the issues were caused by the gaming media making this out to be the grand daddy of all games ... true next gen .. blah blah and then ms also constantly speaking about it etc.

If you compare it to past consensus e3 winners like tlou uc2 its metacritic is lower than expected. If you compare it to mp only games such as csgo etc its inline with being a good fun game. However many of those games grew organically so how well this game does remains to be seen. I m sure it will sell a lot of copies what I mean by that if it will become the next cs cod wow etc remains to be seen .

well its good that reviewers are nothing both the positive (gameplay) and the negative (content) also makes me feel make of these issues will be addressed with add ons and dlc and titanfall 2 should def be a much more robust and higher scoring game.

Hope the reviewers are taking points off for the multiplayer campaign. Just about every other part of the game seems well thought out, but this part? Nope.

Slightly off topic, but the TF launch twitch stream is starting.

I wonder what the "future of Titanfall" announcement is going to be like.

IMO, the campaign mode could have really been done a lot better. My only beef with the campaign mode is that it just feels so tacked on compared with the multiplayer. There's only 2 modes, and each side has the same mission. Even if you win or lose, you "win" technically. Bish says something like "we took heavy losses, but we did it," or something like that. It's not that bad, but it's the fact that the campaign has no impact on events in the game that's annoying as well. It feels more like Dust 514 than Brink.

Everyone's views on value differs. If I play a game that lasts me 12 hours and I enjoyed it then it could be worth $60. If another game is 40 hours long but boring then it might not be. Yet if I play a game online for months then it's easily worth $60.

Your argument would mean a movie like The Breakfast Club isn't worth the price of admission because it takes place in one area and was made by a much smaller budget than say Rambo: First Blood Part II. I would rather own The Breakfast Club but each to their own.

Nope, that's not the right comparison. I'd rather spend 2 hours and watch the Breakfast Club or Rambo over 10 hours of random Youtube videos.

It's not just the number of hours but also how much enjoyment you get out of it. I'd never trade the 10-12 hours I spent on UC2 on my first playthrough for 100's of hours of MP in any shooter for example. I'll rather have 2 steak dinners over 10 McDonald's dinners.

You must hate Bethesda.
I only play them for the storyline missions and maybe a little exploring until I realize everything's randomized, then I'm done.

A single player game is like a book or movie, you're paying for CONTENT that the developers carefully crafted for you to enjoy. In MP, content is created randomly on the spot by the people playing the game and there isn't much variety besides different maps.
Therefore it's worth less in my eyes.

You better believe that MP is just as carefully crafted if not more so than SP content.

MP designers don't control the placement, count, and the ramping up of the difficulty spike of enemies like SP designers, a game in Titanfall or any other MP shooter isn't going to be like playing a level in Demon's/Dark Souls. I see more value in a game that's designed to optimize your experience during game play than to make some broader adjustments and let the humans work as AI.

Then what was the whole talk about the cloud powering AI?

Thought they were going to be like actual players.

Nope. They are run-server side and there are a decent number of them active at any given time, but their behaviors are pretty tame for the most part. The scariest thing I've ever seen them do is deal moderate damage to Titans with rockets.

It's kind of hard to say if the low level of aggression/accuracy is a design decision, an actual limitation of the AI, or some combination thereof.

So some sites are withholding scores until they get to play on retail servers then. Well at least something has been learnt from the BF4 press event debacle.

Before BF3 the numerous BF games were MP only. I don't remember that harming their reviews.

A game should be reviewed on the things it put forth. It not having a SP mode shouldn't be an issue since we have known this to be true since the game was announced.

You do have a point maybe I am just disappointed by all the hype and the lack of inclusion of single player. To me it feels like a lost opportunity to real both lovers of single as well as multiplayer. To call this game revolutionary seems to be more of an embellishment than rather the intense amount of hype this game has received. I hope those who buy this game get their money's worth out of this. I remember Pachter saying that activision should charge people two fees one for multiplayer and one for single player. I feel this is getter closer to a nightmarish reality than I would have hoped for. I know this is being published by EA, just in case.

It's going to review and be received well. It's a much hyped and anticipated shooter. What I am more concerned about is how it is going to sell and most importantly, what will it do for Xbox One sales.

While they do feed the timer, I'm starting to think they exist mainly for players not good at FPS games to have something to shoot at. Good players could still wipe them out easily even if they had better AI. I've yet to see an FPS AI that can match a solid human player. Players who struggle with human opponents though have something to shoot and get their titan to have the fun of just wrecking everything in sight. It's good for now, but I hope in the future they'll add a hardcore mode with tougher AI.

wait what!? why?

I don't see anything that makes this next-gen? It's a shooter with robots and some wall-running. It's fun, no doubt, but nothing in this game screams next-gen to me.

They aren't going to have anything good to say about the server issues.

And what does scream next gen to you? Cause out of all the next gen games so far, this seems to surpass all of them.

Games like Witcher 3 and Infamous Second Son and The Order scream next gen because of how they look.

This game is fun, but it is in no way a looker and a "next gen" game in any way.

Of course, it doesn't need to look next gen. Game is fun. Period.

Dont we play games for the gameplay though? I think the gameplay screams next gen. Ive become more of a pc gamer and I havent played a pc game this awesome in a long time. With that said this is obviously the honeymoon and i honestly wasnt anticipating tbis game like some so it kinda blew me away since i didnt really follow it, but i think you are a bit jaded.

Also. Second son looks great but it doesnt blow me away visually.

Why does this game scream next gen to you? You'll have as much fun playing this on a 360 as you will a PC or Xbox One if graphics don't matter.

This. This times a million.

They aren't there to change the outcome of a match. They are there to entertain you on your way to a pilot or titan 1 for 1.

A smarter AI would just mean an annoying game for people who want humans to decide the outcome.

To take the computation stress off your local Xbox. Since the game is hosted on the server, the AI calculations are done serverside as well.
