Yeah, well it's not that I wouldn't enjoy Cap I'm just not in the mood for a slower movie with a lot of character development today. I still plan to see Cap just another day.
I agree. I liked Captain America more than the rest of the superhero fodder this year. Conan managed to reach some of the same adventure themes from the original film which surprised me quite a bit. The primary style of these new "warrior" type films are being shot has been horribly pale. That being said, there isn't a single character developed properly and is only balanced by the incredibly entertaining gore factor. You can easily tell this director is a huge horror film nut.

It's after Conan's time on the Black Coast with the pirate crew, but before he takes the throne. Beyond that, the story is original.

They do namecheck some of his previous escapades, though.

Well that is more than the original movie. Not a bad time to set an original store either.

Thats good to here. Nothing worse than an uber violent movie than wastes a lot of time on character development instead of it's proper bread and butter.

Watch rise of the planet of the apes, its a much better choice then both those movies. I didn't see Conan but I saw Captain America, it wasn't green lantern bad, but it was slightly less enjoyable then Thor.

Captain America was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it.

Captain America is completely unremarkable. Its just there. Watching it keeps you occupied for two hours but I've had more enriching conversations with my dog. It does nothing that other films haven't done better. Its not a bad film, just a tremendously bland one.

Conan's reputation is beginning to speak for itself.

I recommend you stay in and watch a good movie on DVD. The King's Speech is pretty brilliant, as is Frost/Nixon, The Madness of King George and Peter Sellers masterpiece "Being There".

Watch one of those instead. That's what I think you should do.

OP: I wanna go out and watch an action movie.

Reply: Here are some nice period dramas you may enjoy staying home and watching in your housecoat *sips tea*

It's very like a REH Conan story, in that no one is particularly important other than Conan. There's a female and some companions and a villain, but you know that the next story you read they'll all be gone.

One of the things I liked about it is that the "love interest" is more of a "fuck interest" because you know Conan's going to be shuffling down the road once he's soaked his blade in some tyrants.

I'm starting to like this movie more and more by the minute!

That said playing the 1982 score on the way over is probably not what I should be doing, but hey if you get the 2 disc set, you should rock Anvil of Crom while driving in the car.

Actually in fairness I did see The Kings Speech with my wife and enjoyed it greatly. Lots of awesome classy British acting and very well made. It's just certain days for certain movies.

There was a disc set released last year from another company. Basically they re-orchestrated the entire score. It is absolutely fantastic. Basil was one of those guys where you would watch a film and be like "That's a Basil Poledouris score!", and it never would be a bad thing.

I can't comment on the score for this film because I can't remember a single track from it. Yeah, it's one of those.

I have that one and I look forward to the complete one that was just announced.

I've seen both now. Oh my my fucking god, conan is such a fucki terrible movie. 1.5 stars. It was all blood and guts, I had no idea what was going on. Captain America actually has a story, and a very entertaining one at that.

While Captain America was a pretty lackluster movie, it won't be the horrible trainwreck Conan will be.

Conan is getting bad feedback?

Awww.... why can't Hollywood get anything right anymore? It's a big dude with a sword cutting down anyone who gets in his way, how could they get it wrong?

They didn't. It's fucking awesome. Go see it, OP.

Enjoyed it. The movie was pretty fun. The score was meh and sounded like Tyler Bates had Braveheart and Lord of the Rings on loop. The score was also buried in the sound mix. Lots of fun, violence, and no real dicking around with character development beyond Conan, which was fine. That said there was nothing super memorable about it. Say what you want about the 1982 one, but it had some fairly memorable parts and dialogue. It's funny though, a lot of the 1982 films overall arc so to speak is followed in this movie. Jason was fine, but I think they forced him to be a little too super stoic. You can tell he has a fun side to him and I wish they let it show threw a little. Oh saw this in in 2D. Both my wife and I were hard pressed to see what would have been a wow moment in 3D. Sea battle was pretty fun and was a harkening back to real boats on a big studio lot.

My wife makes a good point that the
big bads death
was pretty lame and to quote her "could have used a Mortal Kombat fatality type death."

Good to see Bob Sapp getting work!

I've seen both, out of those two choices...I'd go with Captain America.

However, you should really see Rise of the Planet of the Apes or Fright Night instead, easily the best two movies in my local theater right now (imo).

You chose...poorly.

I've said it earlier, I read the plot for Rise on wikipedia, and honestly if I want to see apes fighting people (not counting the old school Jungle Adventure genre) I'll stick with Congo.

I'll see Cap when I get a chance.
