Trine 2 Wii U: Patch now live (at least in EU)

So is this patch out in the US yet? I only bought the game this week but I'm not sure if I've got the latest version or not, when I boot it there's no update.

since i downloaded and played it (thursday night) i've found a huge bug that... bugs me a lot more than the gamma thing. The thief got stuck in draw-an-arrow stance. You could still run and jump, but using the grappling hook was impossible. Switching characters back and forth, swapping controllers etc... didn't help.

This was in 2player co-op.

I know JoelFB hangs around, so maybe they'd want to know. If i remember correctly, it started with the player using the procontroller.

You can also use the Wii U GamePad mic.

Thanks guys. :)

Did we already know this was possible? There was a big fuss before the Wii U launched where it seemed as though the only way to do voice chat was with a headset. Good to know developers can use the GamePad if they choose.

Update contents: The update includes support for the Wii U Pro Controller, Voice Chat for online multiplayer, German vocals, improved graphics rendering and a bunch of minor gameplay features and fixes.

Grateful for the update, but one question about the German vocals it contains. I have a German Wii U, but love the English voices. So I was wondering if the update would make lose the English voices. Is there an option to select the original voices in-game?

(I realise it must be a costly endeavor to record German voices, and am grateful you did it for all the German speakers, but personally I've grown to love the English narrator too much and would miss him.)

I've been getting odd music errors post-patch. When I load up a save file, the music seems skip for about 15-20 seconds then returns to normal. I'll keep playing to see it continues. If it matters, it happens on the Desert level in the expansion levels.

Hard to say really - but it wouldn't be a huge surprise if some of them did, although it's not a specific thing for the GamePad, for us it affected all rendering and was more visible on the TV (imho).

Yeah as mentioned above, it's unlikely. Trine 1 is based on our older technology, so something like this would be quite a bit of work. Who knows what happens in the future but we're not working on any Trine 1 related things at the moment, and have no plans either. Sorry!

Hi Frozenbyte :)

I enjoy Trine 2 U very much and your work is absolutely a masterpiece, especially in terms of the graphics. You did also improve the graphics on the Wii U version, which is also honorable, because other developers just deliver a rushed port with less fps or graphics than on PS360. So I have 2 questions for you :)

1. regarding to the Wii U update, I heard on some different websites it improves the graphics. In which way?

2. regarding Wii U hardware. I heard many bad things about the Wii U, the CPU is less powerful than XBOX 360 or PS3, the bandwith of the memory is also worse than on the current gen console. Do you can confirm that? What's your experience with the Wii U hardware? Why did you improved the graphics, it's because of new physic engines or its because the Wii U is actually more powerful than PS360? Would be absolute great if you guys would answer this question :)

I think Dfoundry said assassins creed 3 has a similar brighter gamma. Bringing the brightness down on the upad screen of trine 2 brings the colour out more - after your splendid update.

The update is not out in the US yet. We'll send info to the press (and here if a thread is alive) when we have something to share.

Thanks - I believe we're aware of this and will get it fixed in the next update (which will take some time, we haven't even submitted it yet - so it could be a long time, sorry!).

You can go to the Options menu and Languages, and see how the voice selection works. So yeah, you can still choose English vocals (and whatever subtitles). We're from Finland (no dubbing except kids' animations) so we understand. :)

Do let me know if it happens continuously and/or if you figure out what triggers it. Not sure if we're aware of this...

Graphics - it more or less fixes an incorrect gamma setting - rather difficult to explain (the hardware was applying an extra gamma which we didn't notice until after release). We'll release a video next week to show the difference...

Wii U hardware - I won't comment on that too specifically, sorry. For us it is the best console out there, and Trine 2: Director's Cut is easily the best console version we have (performance, features, etc). Trine 2 as a game is very graphics-intensive so Wii U's modern GPU is a perfect fit for us.

Any chance of this game to run 60 fps or the wii U can't handle it? , waiting for this masterpiece update.
As much as we praise the Wii U, there's no chance for 60 fps. It's just too much for the consoles with the graphics we're throwing at it. The game runs at a rather steady 30 fps but there's just not much room left. Sorry!

Awesome. Will update now. (Shame you have to work weekends, though!)

Dropping by just to share how I feel about Trine2 post patch; I had started my first playthrough of the game back in December but I quickly put the game on hold expecting the arrival of the patch. So last two days have been my first mouthfuls of the game. Briefly put:

It's frigging gorgeous! The sound ambiance is amazing! The whole atmosphere is consuming! The story is masterfully narrated, both verbally and visually, and those sinister undertones in the poems are just so fitting for the game.

I remember Trine 1 leaving a lasting impression on me, but frankly, I was not prepared for what Trine2 got to show once the game unfolded.

I noticed a minor visual bug at a location in the dark forest, shortly after the encounter with Rosabel (will report the exact coordinates once I finish the game - too absorbed with the story now). Moving left in that location would cause lights in the right end of the screen to go out a tad prematurely, sort of like a pop-out effect for the light sources in that part, leaving there what seems to be only ambient component. It's barely noticeable as it happens really quickly, but it's there.

Anyhow, FrozenByte, mad props for the masterpiece of a fantasy game you have created.

Are Wii U patches easier/cheaper for devs than other consoles?

Yes. They're 'free' on Wii U with some minor limits/catches. On 360, it can cost you 20-40,000$ to get a new patch. Submitting DLC is also free. Costs money on the 360 do to so (which makes Harmonix still releasing RB DLC as separate singles/packs impressive)

Microsoft's absurd costs have led to developers avoiding using their first "free" patch until the last possible moment to fix the maximum amount of bugs for free which hurts early adopters, and later title updates that are built and ready to go but remain undeployed as the developer cannot afford the cost to submit it.

Joel, I have a proper bug report this time (but from another location in the game): if you press the home button during the final cutscene with the two systers, then do a miiverse post with a screenshot, when you return to the game there's no picture whatsoever - I can hear the game's prologue cutscene, but both screens stay black.

Regardless, amazing game! I'm off to the extended content now.

Honestly, I have no complaints in the graphics department. There is a framerate difference between the PC version, but I'd be picking nits if I said it bothered me that much.

I hope you and your team continue making games for the Wii U! Off-TV play has really changed the way I play games, and I'd much rather play games like Trine than giant studio blockbusters that seem to bore me to tears as of late. My wife fell in love with the music in your game and has really taken to it, despite not really playing games much at all beforehand and struggling mightily to grasp some of the puzzle mechanics. Being a long time gamer, it's wonderful to see her finally find a game experience that lets her enjoy the same hobby I do. Between Trine and some of the simpler arcade style games in NintendoLand, she might log more time on the Wii U than I've been able to recently.

In any case, thank you for taking the time to reach out to consumers of your product. I know it can be daunting to enter a forum like this with the acidic atmosphere that tends to skew negative.

From my understanding after you explain to me this game running in 30 fps because it's running 480p + 720p on wii u with best setting wii u can handle it.

What about making options in the game for the people who love 60 fps game by choosing game pad or Tv running with 60fps.

I remember street fighter 4 for 3ds do it with 3d 30 fps or 60 fps + AA without 3d .

Is it possible sir to do it ?

Sorry for my bad English .

It's not possible. Mirroring the game on the gamepad as Trine 2 does takes almost no effort on the part of the Wii U.

About the update patch: I didn't notice any notifications when I booted it up today. Do updates automaticaly install? how can I check to see if what I'm playing is the updated version?

Zero interest in this before. Considering the support for the WiiU version, might actually pick this up. Glad to see it!

When you start the program doesn't it do the "preparing update" thing if there's one and it automatically downloads just like it does with retail items?

Gamma is toned down, and the game has a better color and contrast balance.

Voice chat is definetly there, can't wait to try this out with a headset later this weekend

Great game got even greater.

Trine 2 was a great surprise for me. And I acclaim the effort Frozenbyte did with the Wii U version, the Gamepad controls are great, the Wiimote+Nunchuk controls are even greater. Both are a much better fit for Trine than with the normal controller.

Sorry to bump this thread, but is there a trick to using the Pro Controller at all?

I have the latest patch and at start up, the game won't respond to the Pro Controller at all and forces me to use the Gamepad to input commands. There's no option menu to select between the Pad or Pro Controller so I'm wondering what I'm missing. When the patch first went live months ago, I was able to use the Pro Controller. Now, for some reason, I'm not able to. And yes, my Pro Controller works fine, I was just playing Earthbound with it 5 minutes ago.

Any help would be appreciated.
