It was said that the new Rainbow 6 Siege game is likely one or two years out, but is aiming to be released as a current-generation console title for the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, PC, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2.

Two sources, who have knowledge of the game said that the camera is a top-down view somewhat similar to Diablo 4 or XCOM and would see the player take control of Rainbow Six Siege operators. One source said, “just watch some XCOM gameplay if you want to get an idea, I’d say it’s an updated version of that with cinematic cutscenes and so on.”

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was well received, so if it's in that line of gameplay, but with a R6 theme, it can be good.
Just as long as Ubisoft doesn't pull an Ubisoft, and screws it up, again.

I was more of a Conflict: Desert Storm guy. 4 player co-op on the OG Xbox. Good times.
Truth. PS2 and XB had some creative shooters during that gen.

Once COD become a massive thing with COD2 and COD4 during the 360 / PS3 gen, that shit was over, that was the thing to beat and everyone just chased that.

UbiSoft will do anything but make games people actually want. Just do a low effort, by-the-books, dude bro tactical shooter that picks up right where Vegas 2 left off. But noooooo. Ubi are too fancy for that. Too special and sophisticated. Listen, I love XCom but this is going to be a turd. I don't want to play XCom with humans on both sides. It spoils both genres.

Ubisoft's last one wasn't R6, but the 3DS Ghost Recon Shadow Wars was fire. It was produced by none other than Julian Gollop. Who? One of the two brothers that designed and developed the original Xcom.

Have you not played the Jagged Alliance games? This would very likely be just like those, and they were great games. It won't have the aliens scifi of Xcom, but the various operators will have different skills which give different options allowing some role playing.

How fucking hard is it to just make a proper Rainbow Six game? At this point I'd take a remake of Raven Shield or Black Arrow. Update the graphics and weapon sounds and it's a win.

I get the excitement for another Xcom style game but there is a bit of a gap in the market for consoles when it comes to a realistic tactical shooter like old school Rainbow Six. 5v5, no operator bullshit and weapons that are well balanced.

I have no interest in this when Doorkickers is a game that exists and although it isn't turn based, does this type of thing very well.

Jagged Alliance 2, along with the two of original Xcoms, was peak strat gaming back in the day.
While I have enjoyed the reboots the series received, they didn’t stack up to the originals.

Somebody reboot Freedom Force dammit, Marvel Midnight Suns was NOT the game I was looking for.

The original Xcoms while awesome were also janky. There were toned down and streamlined in the new games but were still very fun.

The core combat of Midnight Suns was great, though it would have been nice to not have it limited to an arena, instead clearing one area and then letting you move to the city to the next arena so it would have felt more like Freedom Force especially letting you leap to the top of tall buildings. But the heroes all felt balanced and different. I really enjoy Spiderman who wasn't the hardest hitting, but had extremely high mobility swinging across the arena and triggering all manner of environmental traps. But all that other stuff outside of the combat wasn't just meh. I haven't played it but there's a game from last year called "Capes" that's a turned based Super Hero game. Sadly it doesn't look like FF, but supposedly recent updates improved it a lot.

I'd 100% be down for this. Would be even better though IMO if it were real time tactics in the style of desperados/commandos.

I remember Capes, I do plan on picking it up when I see it on a deep sale.

Combat was the best part of Midnight Suns by far, but I really didn’t like the card based play and small arenas. I wanted Marvel Xcom, but that is hardly the game’s fault.
The “social” aspects outside of combat were so incredibly terrible, I don’t understand how people can enjoy that stuff, especially when the writing is such garbage.

If they want to recapture the feel of classic Rainbow Six (which they should), the missions briefings should be a single screen with a map and a voiceover. No cutscenes, no Hollywood actors.

I was just thinking how much I would love them to release the turn-based ghost recon game from the 3DS on other platforms.
