Yes, gamepass was going to increase the sales of COD. Something must be off with these numbers...You forgot a 0 on the xbox numbers. it was 370k units thanks to Gamepass!
 
With 74% of sales on PlayStation, it could lead someone to think this was physical-only. It puts the comment 'Sony might be the biggest winner from BO6's release' into perspective—not only did they see a 30% increase, but they also saved the yearly marketing budget they had been pouring into CoD.

Sales are down across the board. Even lower than MW3 even though it was an off year. At first i thought this was physical only. Half of MW2 when Black Ops typically holds its own is not great. Disastrous sales on Xbox. I wouldnt be surprised if thats a typo. it is that bad.

i dont think in their worst scenarios, microsoft was expecting this kind of drop due to gamepass.
 
I said it before and I will say it again, CoD needs Playstation more than Playstation needs them. The moment MS decides to make it exclusive they will close shop next day 🤣

If it was serious, then it actually didn't. MW3 sucked, so the Game-over-Game sales are down. But even MW2 outsold (285K) BO6 (257K) on PlayStation.

didn't microsoft just come out and say this was their biggest launch? i'm guessing most of the xbox players went the gamepass route. We'll know more by the next Microsoft quarterlies. I suspect they're going to begin phasing out hardware and possibly de-emphasizing gamepass.
 
I'd imagine most Xbox players just get it on gamepass now. Doesn't make sense to buy a MS 1st party game that is there day and date in their service.

The PS5 is up 30%.....which was the biggest platform for sale to begin with.

This is just UK, but if that translates to other regions.....PS5 might be the one doing the heavy lifting.

But I thought online play on PC was free? So logically it would make sense to pick the PC version over the console ones since you don't have to pay, yes? Interestingly, the console versions still sell more despite this.

In defense of Phil (I can't believe I'm doing this, but just for the sake of argument), you need GP Ultimate on Xbox to play this, right? So, maaaaaybe, MS just got a bunch of new subs/tier upgrades, at least for a month. Not likely to happen, but it's a possibility.

They not only need new subs but also new xbox players. Most of the GP subs are on Xbox consoles. So you are asking people not only to get on GP but also buy a console. This is all assuming most xbox active users are already on GP.

Plus..how many of these new subs are going to last more than a month?

Personally I just don't see this going well for Phil and his experiment.

MS buying a huge ass publisher for 70 billion, Sony losing the marketing deal and somehow gaining 30% in sales when the franchise lost sales both on Xbox and PC (people seem to not mention the PC decrease as well) is...something...

Hi-Fi-Rush was also the biggest Gamepass title once...and they closed the studio. Halo Infinite was also the biggest Halo release right? Or was it Forza Motorstorm?

These PR statements from Xbox mean nothing.

There are far, far more PC gamers than there are console gamers. 1.75 billion, and yet the PC versions sell worse than the console version. Online play is also free. Despite these perks, why are the PC versions still selling worse than their console counterparts?

Did people really expect to increase sales on Xbox and PC? I mean… this is what Microsoft wants for the Gamepass, new subscribers for GP and keep selling on Playstation… I am missing something?

That's because COD has predominantly been a console game since the original MW game.

In general, PC gamers are too busy playing other FPS games like CS or Tarkov.
 
So it turns out Jim Ryan didn't need to launch 12 GAAS games to recoup the potential losses from COD going Xbox exclusive. In an alternate timeline we could have been playing the new Naughty Dog game this year, sigh
