I finished Dangaronpa 2

That Ending was something

I really enjoyed the game though

I still like the first game more.

Next up is Dangaronpa 3

I just finished with Muv Luv Extra. Most people hate it but I thought it was pretty good, besides the endings, which were mostly lackluster

I've just started Unlimited and while I knew about the genre shift it still feels weird as fuck

I'm Thinking of getting the Muv-Luv games on Vita. How are they?

I've only played through Muv Luv Extra which is not representative of the series as it's a school romcom instead of a serious sci-fi drama. But I found it fun if a bit bland, and I liked the characters. Keep in mind you have to complete at least the two main routes of Muv Luv Extra before you can play Muv Luv Unlimited.

Muv Luv Alternative is one of the supposed "God-tier" VNs, so I'm looking forward to it

Happy to see this thread didn't die yet

Two reccomendations i played last year:
Very short but enjoyable nonetheless.

I'll see if i can finally tackle Umineko this year. Another one i want to play is Death End re;quest, not exactly a VN but its similar to 13 sentinels in the sense it has strong VN elements.

Finished several VNs the last three months:

Ever17- This one is made by its fun plot twist. Definitely something you want to go into as blind as possible. Otherwise I found most of the routes sub-par. I have never liked it when you have to play every route to get to the true ending, and that's even more true here due to all of the repeated dialogue/scenes that these routes have. If ever there was a VN that felt dated it's this one. Thankfully for fans it's getting a remake at some point.

Last Resort- Ehhh...I liked the girls, and some of the h-scenes were pretty good, but the story was very bland and forgettable.

Love, Election, and Chocolate- I loved Aokana (see avatar), so I thought I'd try sprite's other title. Satsuki was great, her VA was very expressive (also voiced Tsugumi in Ever17, as well as several other popular characters from well-known VNs). Chisato is someone who many will undoubtedly find annoying with how much she forcibly injects herself into the other routes (almost as if the game is trying to guilt-trip you for not picking her). Despite that I did like her. Didn't find the other girls or routes that interesting, though.

Deardrops- So this one I had a hard time finding anything to like about it. The protagonist is really bland. So are all of the routes. I expected a VN about a rag-tag band getting together and working hard to rise to the top...and yeah, that's what this was, but it did it in about the most cliche way imaginable. Character motivations were in question, the pacing was all over the place, and the "true ending" (technically there isn't one, but the sequel goes off of one of the endings) was probably my least favorite. About the only positive I had with it were the girls. I liked most of them and their designs.

Full Metal Daemon Muramasa- This is one of the highest rated VNs on vndb and I can see why. Good worldbuilding, the CGs are at a high level, and there are a ton of cool character designs. The gruesome heart of this is where you are left questioning what makes a true hero...and whether being a hero is actually the right thing to do anyway, much less what you WANT to do. I did like it overall. Outside of some minor nitpicks, the biggest negative I had with it were all of the rape scenes- frankly, they were unnecessary (thankfully they were short). Also, it has best girl Chachamaru-

Got through a few more in March, bought during the Steam sale:

Wolf Tails- Got this for $4, took about 6 hours to read through both "routes." The two routes aren't that different, and the story is fairly standard stuff. It's about a guy who lives secluded in the mountains and meets two runaway wolf-girls during a harsh winter. It does have some really good art, and a nice ending. I liked it enough.

Baldr Sky- I could not finish this one, because it does two things I don't like about VNs. First, it has an enforced playing order- there are 6 routes, you have to do each one in order. Second it has a large amount of gameplay, and that gameplay isn't very good. It's action-based. If you're looking at it I recommend viewing some gameplay videos first to see if you'd enjoy that kind of stuff.

If My Heart Had Wings- This was very good for the $3 I paid for it on Steam. Just make sure you download the patch because it has severe translation issues otherwise. The story is wholesome, and the music is beautiful, and some of the characters really resonated with me. The art-style is basic, though. It was a solid, lengthy read for the price. I'd recommend it.

Adventure of a Lifetime- It's short, but it has some good art with vibrant colors. The story is decent and so are the characters. It is a heartwarming story about a boy who returns to his hometown (on an island) after several years. It was a basic story but I did like the characters. Overall "decent" is about how I feel about it. Got it for $7.

I only played for around half an hour. Can't say much about the story as of yet, but the art style is great and the music is infinitely better than a lot of visual novels.

I haven't played lot of Visual Novels but I would have to say that The House In Fata Morgana and The Zero Escape Trilogy are the best I played

My plan is to get more into Visual Novels this year

I recently got the Muv-Luv games and Utawarerumono games off of Steam

I've only played a few myself. I've still got 2-3 in the plastic wrapper that I need to get around to playing.

Heard good things about the Zero Escape games.

BOF3 is in my top 20 games of all time. Finished it quite a few times but not in the last few years. The well mini-game can piss off!

Oh yeah, I hated most of the minigames especially the counting the beeps minigame, getting your boat to the destination under the time limit minigame, etc

Still a great game.

I got back to playing AI: The Somnium Files. This game is really, really good. I love me a good murder mystery and the conceit of diving into a person’s subconscious to find the truth is super interesting. As expected from the guy behind the 999 trilogy. Also the character designs, music, and HUD are all very pleasing. Voice acting is excellent too, I’m liking the English dub better than the the sub. Overall I was really enjoy playing the visual novel with actual gameplay elements.

I have them all on Steam

I was wondering how the stories are for these games. Been looking for some great VNs

I haven't played lot of Visual Novels though

My favorites though are

The House In Fata Morgana
The Zero Escape Trilogy
Danganronpa

I had to drop it due to being stuck at a timed segment in the game

It is not as much as visual novel, more "interactive fiction with some images", but I hope I can post it here.

"Dominion of Darkness” is a strategy/RPG text game in which the player takes on the role of a Sauron-style Lord of Darkness with the goal of conquering the world. He will carry out his plans by making various decisions. He will build his army and send it into battles, weave intrigues and deceptions, create secret spy networks and sectarian cults, recruit agents and commanders, corrupt representatives of Free Peoples and sow discord among them, collect magical artifacts and perform sinister plots.Note – one game takes about 1 hour, but the premise is that the game can be approached several times, each time making different decisions, getting different results and discovering something new. Feedback is very much welcome. Very, very much. Altough game is playable and winnable now, I am still working on improving it, so all suggestions are appreciated.

Here is the game: https://adeptus7.itch.io/dominion

Ebi-hime is a talented and prolific vn writer. Her vn’s are usually a treat, on the shorter side (some can be read in a couple hours), and available on many platforms.

Sweetest Monster is excellent.

Beat CT, yesterday. Took me almost 6h to finish story. Good visual novel, but I haven't any idea about brewing a coffee.
I wanted more, so currently playing 2nd part.

Picked this up on sale. It was an excellent game about two mentally deranged siblings. Loved the art style, and although it delves into some dark subjects it often portrays it comedically. I enjoyed it a lot. Reminded me of OMORI, albeit with even less gameplay.

currently on sale on steam, for all its faults I love this game. Is absolute hype in certain scenario's. Imagine power rangers but you also have insane day to day BS, great fun.

Don't worry about the all ages thing it just skips the scenes where everyone fucks, which felt kinda forced tbh.

for everyone who played Clannad (and if you haven't, WHYYYYYYYYY?!), a whole new novel dedicated to following the best girl ending... for the love of god buy this, its amazing.

the steam sale of gold for VN's

little busters in English, the best version ever made with all the extra scenario's

look at how cheap this is... god I wish I could forget all these so I could experience them all over.

I couldn't stand the first Muv-Luv game, gave up a couple of hours in. I'm sure it becomes incredible but I wasted hours on some of the most uninteresting dialogue and events ever and I just noped out.

Posting this one here since I'm not sure what's GAF policy on starting threads about unofficial fan translations, but apparently Anime Game Translations Team has released back in August 2022 a complete English patch for Bakemonogatari Portable (PSP) which never got a release outside of Japan. If you're curious about this translation project and you want try the patch yourself watch the EN Opening and check the comments section for a link to the EN translation patch.

Got Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II coming to the house today, can't wait. Going to juggle between this and Persona 3 Reload! I really loved Death Mark I and liked Spirit Hunter: NG enough so I am a huge fan of this game going back to the former. Seems like no more dungeon crawling exploration and instead it got the screen by screen moving ala 13 Sentinels.
