A few minutes of behind-the-scenes B-roll footage. So, here's something weird, it looks as though they made Paula Patton's skin green digitally, as opposed to actually painting her.

Like, even if that was CGI, it would be some of the best CGI ever and most definitely not "Omigod" bad.

I'm already getting flashbacks to the Avatar threads where folks thought that the CGI humans looked terrible, when they were in fact looking at real actors.

The human brain sees what it wants to see I guess.

What'd you think?
Seriously, awesome. I am a die-hard fan of the game and its universe, and since the trailers came out, I've been thinking that the movie was going to be a huge disappointment. Well, far from that. It looks really neat, the story is enthralling (ahah, enthralling, get it?... I shouldn't try cracking jokes in English), some of the human characters fall a bit flat (I didn't like Anduin and his way too frequent jokes) but the orks are perfect. Gul'Dan just kicks ass throughout the movie. You can relate to Durotan more than any other protagonist imo.

The music was composed by Ramin Djawadi (GoT), so, as good as one can expect. Some surprises for WoW players (subtle easter eggs).

Seriously don't listen to the critics, give it a shot. It's my MOTY at the moment. Even if, like I did, you thought the trailers were crappy. The movie is hardly anything like them.

Even if this one may not fulfill its full potential, I hope it makes enough money to at least get to a second one financed - I'd love to see Arthas story in a movie trilogy.

And there's nothing wrong with fantasy that distances itself just enough from LotR in visuals and style.

This is releasing the same day as Now You See Me 2 and The Conjuring 2. I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came in 3rd for the weekend :(

Even if it doesn't do well in America, it is projecting very well overseas.

Collider's spoiler-free review. Their scores were 6/10, 6.5/10, and 6.5/10.

Overall they enjoyed the film, but they felt some of the human actors were miscast (though they couldn't agree on which ones) and that the movie has a bit too much going on (echoed by other reviews). All three agreed that while this was not a home-run, it was definitely a step in the right direction for video game movies. Jones did a good job building the world and they're all interested to see where it goes next if a sequel ends up happening.

As a WOW player from years bygone, I'm just looking for a fun as fuck movie that features characters I enjoy and lots of lore-porn.

Going to see this Saturday. I'm going in with really low expectations, I read the review thread and the Battlefield Earth comparison kinda stuck with me, but hopefully I'll enjoy the movie either way.

If this movie sucks, your fledgling movie critic career is over, mister!

This is going to sound weird, but I am most looking forward to seeing Redridge and Lakeshire. Spent a lot of newb hours there, met a lot of friends. I noticed a shot of it in the earliest trailer.

I won't be able to make it day one, but even if I have to see it by myself I'm going a few days after.

What compositing? It's real actor in a real costume on a real set.

People already have the perception it looks bad so now even the real practical work looks bad, lol. It's like people are looking for it to be bad. Literally calling things CG when they aren't at all. I think that says a lot about how good the CG actually is.

Maybe it's something about the foreground/background lighting or the depth of field or something, but those indoor backdrops just look so off.

Like, the Orc CG looks fine, but those stills of the humans in Stormwind just look weird.

To be fair, even knowing it's real doesn't make it look better. HIs armor looks like plastic and that wall somehow looks flat. I've seen better lion statues in Las Vegas.

I dont imagine the vast majority of reviewers of this movie have a single ounce of knowledge about what is going on in the story so reviews are pointless. I need to hear from Wacraft fans. Having said that, I'm seeing this regardless. Love me some Wacraft lore

To be fair, I want people who have no idea what is going on to enjoy themselves as well. I hope it achieves that in some small measure.

If I had that armor I would wear it to work every day.
You guys are a total bummer, I wish I could have stayed in the community thread.

This thread is already gold, and on top of that I'm actually really excited for this movie in spite of the initial reactions. I love the Warcraft games and played the hell out of WoW during its first three or so years. I haven't really interacted with the series since then, so I'm down to reacquaint myself after all this time.

It sounds like to me the biggest criticisms are that the Human characters are probably the weakest of the lot in the film.

Really all this says to me is
ALLIANCE SUCKS GO HORDE!

Shittt this is out next week?? Thought it was further, so hyped!

Tickets at my theatre still aren't on sale though. Cmon Cineplex get your shit together :(

I kinda feel bad for everyone who was legit hyped by this and expected greatness.
Can we have one of those chalkboard images with movies to save videogame movies on it?

ETC News liked it, most of the time I feel the same way about things as they do. Can't wait.

Not out in my country until the 10th though.

I just interpret that as the sequel needing more dwarves.

Magni will rise again.

ETC News (a film/pop-culture focused YouTube channel) posted their review - they both really liked it it - one of them is a Warcraft fan and the other knows nothing about it.

Basically they feel If you approach it as a big, fun summer blockbuster you'll really enjoy it. But if you try to hold it up next to The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, you will be disappointed. The movie's not a "work of art" but as a summer blockbuster it gets the job done.

I'm not sure what this even means. In what universe is Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones not just "summer blockbusters" in this context? Both are loud and bloated adaptations of fantasy books with emphasis on spectacle and style, often at the detriment of characters and more subtle storytelling.

It's referring to the fact that LOTR and GOT have the "prestige" factor working for them as they both come from critically referred works of fiction, and both adaptions have swept award shows because of how well-executed they were. They weren't just great fantasy adaptions, they were a great trilogy/TV show period. They're saying Warcraft isn't that.

Although Warcraft comes from a critically-revered series, the games are beloved widely for their gameplay, not their storytelling or plot.

Basically I take it to mean Warcraft is a "Popcorn Movie" or whatever the term is and was never mean to be seen as a tour de force.

I dunno about the look. There's a weird glossy plasticky feel to the CG that reminds me of Indiana Jones 4 and the Star Wars prequels.
