Pretty much finished my captain last night. It didn’t end up quite as well as I wanted but it’s my best one yet I think. Still need to clean up the base and the tyrranid

I’m really not happy with the face, any tips on how to improve on them? I used Agrax earth shade on it, and it looks like play dough imo. I’d appreciate some tips.

Don't use Agrax Earthshade. Water down something like Kislev Flesh on top of Bugmans Glow then use another lighter shade for highlights on raised areas.

NEW SPACE MARINE 2 LORE! The events between Space Marine 1 and 2 finally revealed!

This Chapter Master Valrak's summation on White Dwarf's article on what happened to Titus between Space Marine 1 and 2. If you can't watch the video or would rather read it, here's the gist of it:
  • Inquisitor Thrax, theone who aprehended Titus based on Leandros's accusation, was an Inquisitor with a grudge against Space Marines, seeing them as a liability to the Imperium. He was part of the Inquisition agents which declared Huron Blackheart and the Maelstrom Warders Excommunicate Traitoris during the Badab War. He had Titus tortured and intwrrogated for years, with no intention of ever letting him go, and would keep him in stasis after interrogations.
  • Thrax died during an Inquisition operation against a traitor chapter. During the operation, he was possessed by a Chaos Daemon, and was purged by the Grey Knights.
  • The Inquisition sent the Red Hunters to investigate Thrax's holdings, to make sure that him being possessed was just an i cident and not that he had been traitor this whole time. That's when the Red Hunters found Titus, as well as dozens of other Astartes who had been similarly imprisoned and tortured.
  • The Inquisition transferred the recovered Astartes to the Deathwatch, allowing its Chaplains to be the ones to interrogate them and test their loyalty. Titus was found free from Chaos taint and disloyalty by the Deathwatch.
  • Titus inquired about the Ultramarines, and the Deathwatch revealed to Titus that there were zero records of him ever serving the Ultramarines. Titus interpreted this to have been that he was censured as a disgrace to the chapter, so in grief he declared himself a Blackshield and joined the Deathwatch.
  • Serving in the Deathwatch, him and his fellow Astartes were deployed against the Tyranids as part of the 4th Tyranic War. During one disastrous operation, Titus's company was fully wiped out, and Titus was gravely wounded after taking down a Carnifex. He was literally beyond saving, resigning himself to finally die in service of the Emperor.
  • THE ULTRAMARINES 1ST COMPANY, LED BY CAPTAIN SEVERUS AGEMMAN AND CHIEF LIBRARIAN VARRO TIGURIUS, ARRIVED TO SAVE TITUS. During Warp travel, Tigurius felt the soul of an Ultramarine dying, and when he extended his extra-sensory perception, he recognized it was Titus. Agemman and Tigurius personally knew Titus from back when he was 2nd Company Captain. They immediately initiated a rescue operation for him. Titus was rescued at the nick of time, and to save his life, he was immediately taken into surgery to perform the Rubicon Primaris on him. Titus survived the operation and is now a Primaris Marine.
  • Agemman and Tigurius reveal to Titus that FOR YEARS Marneus Calgar furiously protested against the Inquisition and demanded that Titus be released back to the Ultramarines. The reason Titus's name had been erased from the Ultramarines' records was not out of censure of Titus, but out of shame that the Chapter had so disastrously failed one of their own. Titus was never seen as a disgrace by Calgar or the high leadership of the Chapter.
  • Titus is welcomed back to the Ultramarines with full honors, him having declared himself a Blackshield being fully disregarded and his service in the Deathwatch considered as faithfully serving the Ultramarines for all this time.
  • As Cato Sicarious is currently serving as 2nd Company Captain with distinction, Titus is not given back his old position, but in deference to his service and loyalty, he is still given back officer rank as a Primaris Lieutenant.

That's got Guy Haley written all over it.

Started my tyrranids last night. They are more fun than I was expecting. A bit easier too. Primed around 10 last night and started painting 4. Here is the one I’m furthest along.

Nice! I really let myself get sidetracked with coursework on this new degree and with FF7Rebirth. I need to get back to painting some skellies!

It really soaks up the time. I thought it was like 930-10 last night but it was 1130. It can really take you for a loop!

Anyone use Warhammer plus? I’m thinking about getting it but don’t know how much content there actually is.
I use it mostly just because I want the free Mini and occasionally get a few hours of content to watch a year that interest me.

It has some good shows and battle reports, but nothing particuarly amazing.

As Faust said, most people get it for the "free" Mini. Most content is available free elsewhere, battle reports and lore can be found on YouTube from various Warhammer channels, granted they're not an "official source" but it's all taken from books etc.
The animations are few & far between with no roadmap to what's coming up.
But it's £50 a year, so it's not a lot really and you do get access to the White Dwarf Vault.
Depends if £50 is something you can afford to spend and whether the content is worthwhile for you.
Makes you wonder what will happen with the animations once the Amazon juggernaut starts churning out material...

Hope that helps.

Very impressive! Were the war hounds fun? I’m thinking about grabbing them or some knights at some point

They were quite straightfoward to put together, I first built and painted the whole skeleton in metallics and then did the armor panels separately before attaching them. My only problem was that I had mixed up some of the panels and noticed I had painted some optional ones that I don't actually need, well... :)
Only issue with them is that they are currently 'locked' within the LI starter box, as I think they have still not received their separate box release, same as the Predator and Sicarian tanks from the LI starter box.

So you painted the parts separately and then put them together? I’ve been considering doing this for all my minis for the base colours. It would really allow me to get into the hard to reach spaces but could be really tedious.

It’s best not to do that for very part, but sub assembly for parts that may be hard to paint, like the inside of a shield, or underside of a cape.

Good to know. I did that on my captain. I had it all mounted and put together but took it apart to hit the back of the cape. I was in the store talking to the guy and he told me to only use one high light or contrast on the inside. I laughed saying using more than one was essentially science fiction for me at this point haha.

He didn’t understand me saying that I just suck at it.

I’ll get to do some more tyranids tonight as I’ll get to sit down for a bit… hopefully.

yes, I sometimes use "sub-assemblies" to paint parts to get easer to spots that my brush would have a hard time to reach if it were fully assembled. For Imperial Knights and Titans it is for example common to paint the armor plates separately and glue on later. I don't do it too much for smaller models, but especially with models that have cloaks and many overlapping parts, I tend to keep them separate until I got some paint in between and then start gluing them together once I'm happy there's no grey plastic remaining in the gaps.

I've been on an Adepta Sororitas kick here of late. I just finished up the Marvel/WH40k graphic novel, Sisters of Battle and enjoyed it. Now I'm about to dive into the Pilgrims of Fire novel.

I love the aesthetics of the Kriegers and i think i'll buy the Kill team just to paint them. No other IG regiment is so dope.

My mini collection is growing steadily.

Battle Sisters team is painted, repentias are primed white, Kill Team novitiates are primed black. Rhino currently primed in parts, but will be glued next week.

Finally started playing - Necromunda. Buddies came along with their crews and my sisters were stand-ins for Enforcers.

I just wanted to share that I hate yellow.

I was painting my librarian last night and I hate it. The librarian is harder than the captain by far. I also dropped it and chipped the top decoration on it. Crappy night

I got invited to play a game of Old World this wednesday. Looking forward to it. They're letting me use their Empire army.

Anything I should keep in mind? I haven't really played before.

Worked on this last night for the first time in a bit. The librarians are hard to do. Got more to do but it is coming along decently I think. It slipped from my hand at one point and I chipped off some points off the top. Sad face.

Let us know how it goes. The models look fantastic.
Had a great time. Im not used to gaming with random people, so I was nervous about that but it was super chill and they were very enthusiastic while being accommodating.

I used their Empire vs Beastmen. Of course I lost baser on its, but I had some pts on the table I didn't get to score, but would have had we kept playing (store was closing).

Had some disastrous results on my right flank that caused some problems but was able to rebound and recovery to a degree. Definitely some interesting board situations. And I had a hard time with skirmishes units and moving them. But it was good time

Sounds like it was a good time, just need a few more rounds to get a hang of it. Good to hear.

Yeah it's a good time. Step one would be to secure an army first lol. Debating between Orcs, Dwarves and Empire. Empire was fun but the other two seem cool too

The old world models are pretty freaking cool. I like the 40k lore better but the models of the medieval stuff is just on a whole other level

That is awesome. The details are fantastic. The red especially. Amy tips on how you did that?

Thanks. You just need a steady hand, try to adjust your painting area so you can be as comfortable as possible & your hand can remain steady for prolonged periods and take your time.

Any good books that focus on a Knight? I was listening to some audio lore from a Border Prince today on the Knights and they seem awesome. Especially the free blades.

Also, is there a good place to find good Knight designs? I have a couple houses I’d like to mirror when I make mine.
