What are your *Actual* hot takes regarding video games? I mean ACTUAL stuff that would get people riled up?

You strongly argued for "woke" games' favor without even defining them, you have yet to do so. Others and myself did define it and you dismissed it. This is why I said I don't think you know what you're arguing for or against when you say "Woke". You only cited Life is Strange as an example and didn't explain why, or which part.
In terms of widely used definition, what the term has devolved into is a negative connotation for anything that can be seen as progressive. The point I've been making from the start is how can the gaming industry making progressive design choices be seen as something negative? Who cares if a game has a female lead, people of color, eludes to gender or sexual orientation. The more different and varied perspectives in design and story telling we get is going to resonate with a wider audience and bring more people into the medium. A good game is still gonna be a good game.

3. I actually think diversity in main characters *is* a great thing; the problem is when they focus more on "ticking enough boxes" or "sending the right political message", instead of fully committing to making characters that feel fully realized. I got made fun of as a kid for having red hair, so I always looked for male characters who also had red hair; it may sound stupid, but having "cool" characters I could aspire to be like helped me get through some pretty intense insecurities. We *should* have characters of different ethnicities, orientations, the whole nine yards -- we just don't need *all* of that variety in *every* single game.
The whole crux of this issue is that "Diversity" and "Inclusion" are a facade in the vast majority of games released today. There are designed and written by people who are not actually diverse themselves at all; usually its a hivemind and we both can already imagine what these dev teams exactly look like. They think that not being Caucasian, having a foreign accent, wearing weird clothes or performing cringey rituals makes a character suddenly diverse. They also think female anything is diverse when females are the majority population of the human race. Most core gamers are males, so females already out-proportion their quota for diversity when looking at the amount of representation video games.

A truly diverse character is when they have diversity of thought, not some childish skin deep mask, and it realistically would lead to conflict. They are willing to stand up for their beliefs and are will to fight for them. The Qunari from Dragon Age: Origins and 2 come to mind as excellent true diversity. Viktor Reznov From Call of Duty Black Ops was excellent diversity and plot device. NieR games' main theme is diversity and different perspectives to everything. There is more but this is just off the top of my head.

EDIT: Mass Effect Trilogy has excellent diversity overall, and Legion and Thane are my favorite examples of it.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I absolutely loved the gacha mechanics in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

They weren't predatory (you only had to use in-game items, not real money) and they were a way to distribute different blades to be used on different playthroughs. The devs obviously didn't design the system for someone to sit there and try to collect ALL the blades, and the people that complained the loudest were the autists that tried to do just that.

I heard that the drop rate for the Rare Blades increases once you do a second walkthrough. Whenever Switch 2 comes out, that is what I'm planning on doing and yeah I didn't mind the gacha mechanic due to them making sure it's not RL Money you use but in game currency

The drop rate also increases based on the number of times you've pulled and not obtained a 5* blade. I think I saw a formula online once of like "average number of crystals needed to pull all rare blades", but again - autists.

Yeah that's why I'm doing a second playthrough. I want to get all the blades especially Kos-Mos

gaming is boring now. there's nothing interesting being done. IT's in a rut. The only hope of finding anything interesting is to wade into the weeds and that takes too much time. And most of the stuff people call interesting is just different graphics or theme but same 'ole game.

Gaming itself is a terrible hobby. Sit and stare at a screen...what a rewarding hobby. Even worse if your job is the same thing. IT's worse than watching sports and tv shows and movies. Because at least with those you can be reading and not paying attention to them.

Switch era is in its 13th year.

How many different ways can you move sticks and press buttons before you're just doing the same thing you've always done? You have to turn off a lot of brain power to keep playing videogames and be excited about them. That or turn into a graphic whore and buy a magnifying glass to demonstrate the advanced state of the industry and how it superior to what came before. Evidence and exhibit A - my 155 screenshot long A/B comparison. Blown up to 10x life size and printed out using the latest techniques. Let's start with exhibit A1: notice the smooth lines on the left compared to the less smooth line on the right. No? Let me magnify this image even further. Look at exhibit A2. 10x magnification of the prior magnified image. This really demonstrates that yesterday's smooth line is today's jagged line. The superiority of today's games is undeniable. ...next up exhibit A3.

In the end multiplayer games are just how fast can you hit buttons and push sticks. STarts to be less fun once this really sinks in. Once you realize your buddy Joe is faster and plays 40 hrs/wk and there is no way you're going to be on competitive ground with him. Same with the faceless joe bobs on the internet. Same with your kids. Fun when you beat your kids. But once they turn 8 and have response times of a caffeinated rabbit, you're SOL.

The youtubers ruin games. They have different gaming needs than the players especially the average player. The youtuber is a whale in these terms. They need to take in massive quantities of content plankton every day to survive. Without it they die.

The average gamer needs but a microcosm of that.

Online games and games in general have turned into endless homework assignments as a result. Busy work. Multiple choice worksheets. To be done daily for the rest of time. And are much much less about the actual game going on.

I hate From Software games

I hate Gaas Games like Fortnite

The current releases suck ass and buy max 1 or 2 a year

Wokeness can go suck a cock

I think games that are 5+ years or older are generally better than New releases!

Oh the opposite. I am having a great time playing Emulation and great games without DLC being shoved up my ass, or waiting on crazy patches, or politics just shoved in the games. I am an old soul and staying back int he era where Quality and merit mattered more than anything else.

I got another one:

I don't play multiplayer games anymore. After the a certain age, I just didn't care to want to play with other people. There hasn't been much to inspire me to engage in muli-player anymore. I am not a Fortnite fanatic, Call of Duty Drone, Or Madden/NBA2k zombie.

You have to be a braindead normie to enjoy 90% of Playstation exclusives.

The even harder pill to swallow is that (prior) Xbox games have much more depth to them (Forza, Gears, Halo) and take much more skill to play (though that's by virtue of having a thriving and balanced multiplayer scene).

I find GTA to be mean-spirited, bitter, and gross - and I guess that sums up Rockstar games in a nutshell.

There's a hot take: when it comes to GTA, crazy lawyer dude (Jack Thompson) was right. GTA is bad for society.
I don't think GTA is as bad for society as social media, GTA is no worse than most main stream movies of which it's derivative of.

I do agree that since GTA IV, GTA V is too on the nose and crass compared to it's predecessors that it loses much of its satirical charm that made the PS2 versions so memorable.

My hot takes:

1- Every console manufacturer should take extreme measures in gate-keeping games on their consoles, and should openly sign exclusive content rights with 3rd party publishers, and porting to PC or competition shouldn't even be on the table (i.e. M$: fumbled the bag big time, Sony: In the process of fumbling the bag, Nintendo: Rather good regarding this till now).

2- SOMA is a mediocre game at best. Its only "Horror" or "Deep" or "Philosophical" because it reflects the player's own insecurity regarding his/her place in the universe, and what comes after. It's made from the ground up as misery porn for nihilist-esque mindsets.

3- Red dead games are slow as molasses bore-fests. They don't deserve the hype besides the horse testicles in RDR2.

4- The actual best Call of Duty game was Infinite Warfare.
1 - Exclusives are shit. Give me everything on my PC!

2 - Never played SOMA; cannot comment.

3 - Indeed.

4 - Indeed.

Here is one I believe and have been shouted down every time I mention it. It is timely due to todays rumors!

With the average length of development time increasing every generation, it is only natural to start getting “deluxe” versions of games from one gen to the next.

I firmly believe Switch 2 has a number of SWITCH 1 Games that will be deluxe versions. Nintendo does not have the staffing to create multiple new Fire Emblems, Pokemon, Smash or Animal crossing? Every gen!

Nooo Nintendo doing remasters of all their previous gens games and charging full price to heavily inflate their slim first party offering ? ... this is just madness

Multiplayer games are for kids.
This is such an odd take to have. Multiplayer games come in many shapes or forms. You have Puzzle, Party, Problem Solving, Trivia, Digital tabletop, Beat'em up, bullet hell/twin sticks, aRPGs, Military sims, FPS/TPS shooters, MOBA, RTS, Grand Strategy, TBStrategy etc. All under the larger umbrella of whether PvE or PvP.

You're telling me all these are for kids? Really?
If yes then what makes them for adults when you play by yourself?

Yes it is. I'm not denying you your right to your take, we can disagree about it if it comes to that. I just want to understand was brought you to that conclusion?

Or was it in jest?
Nop ... its a extreme hot take thread so theres no need to go in depth about my reasons... do I believe every multiplayer game is for kids ? Nop.. do I believe a lot are ? Yep.
