What happened to all the people that were cheering over that MS Activision acquisition?

Imho, the Activision/Blizzard acquisition was the WORST video game decision in history and that’s saying a lot. I was against it from the start because I knew it was too risky and exorbitant even for Microsoft’s deep pockets. Microsoft closing studios and having to make games for other platforms to get sales which inevitably lead to selling only 2 million consoles in 2024 is proof it was a huge mistake. Honestly I don’t think they will ever make that 68 billion back anytime soon if ever even as a successful game publisher.
Activision is an asset, so talk of "making back" money only makes sense in the context of the depreciation of the value of that asset.

Maybe to put some constructive argument in this thread (which, I guess, some others have also already said): ActiBlizz was at a point where people genuinely thought it couldn't possibly get any worse in terms of the quality of games they publish (and it also didn't help that all these scandals started to appear). Blizzard especially were in a shit situation. I think that's why people cheered, since it meant to be rid of Kotick and therefore a possibility to "right the ship". However, at least from the outside, not that much appears to have changed. Maybe it just takes a while to see the consequences of this acquisition. Who knows.
At the very least, I expected Blizzard's games to be released on Steam as well. But they've only put Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 on it so far.

What has it impacted exactly? I see nothing wrong with the acquisition.

Implosion of the Xbox brand.. give me a break. Everyday there's another Xbox doom and gloomy thread and its getting boring.

According to another user the Xbox brand imploded because they are releasing their games on PC day one 😂

Everybody has a different view on it.

By the way, I dont own an Xbox but I do own a PS5, competition is good and Xbox leaving the console business would be horrible for consumers.

But im glad we are all cheering on the Death of Xbox© over here
Now see this reply clearly can't remember the gloating and chest thumping that was going on at the time. How this deal would end Sony and they shouldn't be complaining but competing with Xbox????

If I'm participating in a thread then I'll read the posts that are in the thread.

If you have something to say to me then reply to my posts instead of trying to hide behind other people. It's pathetic, but not unsurprising considering you're somebody who would rather this place was run by Xbox employees in the same way that certain other places are.

Hopefully the way all of this has panned out hasn't been too hard for you to endure over the last few years.

RIP discord crew 2018-2023.
One has to be a special type of fanboy to have a discord dedicated to FUD and spreading FUD about a plastic box you dont like. Thats alot of elementary school, junior high school energy from grown ass people.

Remember all those who ridiculed the CMA for making cloud an issue?

"One of our fastest growing regions right now is Asia, and it’s not because we’re selling more consoles in Asia, but through cloud and PC, we’re finding more users year over year than in any other place. The fastest kind of platform is Cloud. That’s the thing that’s growing the fastest year over year."

An anti trust regulator doing their job. Who woulda thought?

The hate against the regulators by some ppl really opened my eyes.

worked out perfect for me..didn't have to spend $100 CAD on COD..I'm happy Microsoft bought them. I've been around long enough to not give a fuck what happens to any corporation.

has there ever been a western studio acquisition in the past 15 years where the studio didn't end up just being gutted and ruined and shut down and it actually benefited?
