I find the discourse about this stuff absolutely insufferable, and generally insane. NeoGAF used to be a bit of refuge from that compared to the purple place, but now it's turned into a red pilled mirror world of that.
It has no bearing on how I enjoy games, but increasingly trying to socially occupy gaming spaces feels like living in a mad house of hysteria.

I mean...but you are collectively boycotting it over a pronoun. Which has nothing to do with gameplay, writing, quests, presentation or anything that a gamer really cares about.
And yeah...People are tweeting about it and discussing boycotting it on sites like these so it's very similar. Even if you have cognitive dissonance about it.
I get more mad about robotic writing and fetch quests and a lack of creativity in my rpgs. It's rare that they contain it these days, so I support those that do.

It's impartial to judge a game over the things that make it a good game or not, not a pronouns option. Thats political. And a specific side of the political spectrum at that.

If someone has strong convictions about something even if it appears ridiculous to you, they have the right and are justified to do so. I don't agree with pronouns and DEI, so that's that.
As far as Hogwarts legacy yes I did support it, me and the kids finished the game. Why? Because it wasn't advertised as a lgbtq+ game and the developers didn't do a scene about it.
As soon as the dev team talks about pronouns and diversity, I'm out. As simple as that

I play the games I want to play and I judge them based on their content, I don't sit there scouring the Mastadon account of animation rigger back to 2018 trying to look for reasons to cancel a game, that's just fucking stupid.
I find the absolute puritanical hysteria to be really exhausting. NeoGAF has turned into a fucking cancel mob just like Reeee somehow and I don't understand.

So race is playing as a reason for the anti Dei when we should be asking the devs for quality of their games.
When was the last time we got game interviews about mechanics of a genre ? Aka what is truly killing gaming.
Yes I am biased because I personally want male power fantasy games but that’s me and pronouns/other mains/ect don’t bother me compared to games rated 8-10 and its the same
but better graphics with a regression on gameplay options.

I just think you guys are getting too lost in the sauce, and potentially hurting the few good devs we may have. Which indirectly affects the hobby I enjoy.
I want devs who arent going to keep doing fetch quests, to keep making games. Obsidian seems like one of those, I'd like them to stick around.

Hogwarts had trans characters in it...and also did advertise it to avoid the connection to Rowling.
It even had a Trans scene with a trans actor voicing them.
I doubt avowed is even gonna do all that lol so that's my point, if you support Hogwarts then what is this really about? Seems like it's just doing anything "the other side " doesn't like.
People don't realize their support over hogwarts kinda exposes them a bit.

Devs created this monster by pushing too hard. It is what it is. If they just dialed it back a bit it would do wonders for everyone.
I like Obsidian too and would love them to stick around. That’s gonna be difficult if they insist on pushing ideology in their games though. They have a whole market to consider, not just a small group that agrees with them.

Statistically speaking (gonna bring up race here, but stick with me) the white male demo is the main demo that is primarily erm..."conservative". So we're likely talking about it bothering just...them primarily. Purely statistically speaking.
Problem is that is the largest base in the gaming community. And it's an elephant in the room. So it makes alot of noise when that section isnt "happy".

No...in the developer promo and such they showed something clearly immediately flamboyant or outwardly gay characters in order to dispel the trabsphobic ideas.
This was before the game came out. Like..I knew the game was very lgbtq friendly before the game was out.
And if you don't agree with pronouns then that should translate into trans being shoe horned into a game. Which it was for Hogwarts.

And for the record, I play plenty of games. Too many in fact. Being critical of a small handful of western AAAs pushing woke shit doesn't mean I don't like games or that I hate everything.
Doom Dark Ages and KCD2 won't have woke shit and will be phenomenal. None of this culture war nonsense will enter the conversation with those. Other western devs should take note if they want to stop stepping in shit.

Well I hope "woke shit" in you guys' minds just sticks to pronouns, because when it starts becoming "black lead? WOKE" then this basically becoming...bad. and seems like it's a fight to keep things...idk...white? More so than it is anything ethical.
Goal is to make it to where anyone can be a lead and it doesn't matter, this all seems like an attempt to go the opposite direction. Because only one demographic is never called woke. Not a good look.

I look into the controversy to see if I care about what's in the game.
A lot of woke complaints seem to stem from character creation and that stuff can be a mixed bag but is usually ignorable. Body type A / B, pronoun selection, or disabilities in character creation can be a little cringe but ultimately they're just minor annoyances. It gets a little more annoying when the focus on diversity leads to the character creator starting to feel limited. Like ok we have more black hair styles and that's genuinely cool, but in an effort to do that we now ended up with 2 white male hair styles: Spiked and ken doll... Both of which make your character look like a douchebag... Great... Forza Horizon 5 was really bad about this where it felt like I had very few hair options but somehow they managed to be inclusive of every disability ever. You can't help but feel like dev time started to prioritize trivial stuff and I ended up finding my ideal hair option was baseball cap... Games like Cyberpunk handled this better by just letting you naturally mix and match whatever genitals, voice, body, etc that you wanted without any hard identity stuff. Monster Hunter Wilds seems to be adopting a similar system letting you mix and match female / male hair / armor and it's fantastic. So many options for creativity.
For games I skip, I only really care when it's Dragon Age levels of bad where shit writing and virtual signalling seem to be the core motivations. That's the point where DEI crap has ruined a game. People can get pretty wild with their call outs though. Alan Wake 2 got a lot of shit for including a black female lead but she's largely fine. There was one cringe throw away line about cleaning up another white problem or something and it was cringe but the other 99.99% of the game is fantastic. I'm not going to miss out on that because of one line of dialog.

I'm in the same boat. As a result of all the modern day drama, my Steam wishlist is getting smaller and smaller.
I think there are perhaps 3-4 games which I will buy over the next 12 months (new Doom game, MGS3, Black Myth Wukong)
