Where does hatred of furries/furry fandom stem from?

Do you have any data to support the theory that furries have had abnormal childhoods, or is that entirely speculation?

Anecdotal. But my point is that furryism doesnt just spring out of the aether and its not a state of being in the way that sexual orientations are. At some point a conscious decision was made to observe a certain genre of pop culture, and over some length of time that observation became sexual.

More to the point, he's conflating having desire and having it exclusively.

I apologize for that generalization.

That's just sad.

One of his doll buddies who I met bought two dolls because after his wife left him, he simply decided to give up on real women. The dolls were less trouble, I guess. These guys aren't hurting anyone, so I can't say I give a shit at the end of the day, being their lives to do with as they will, but it is legitimately depressing to see in action. Furries make me roll my eyes in comparison.

Yeah they're not hurting anyone but at the same time I feel like those issues need to be addressed not "solved" by "I'll just get a doll."

What in the show is feministic? It's been a long time since I've watched. I'm also pretty sure we never got the lesbianism part in the USA; they were just "good friends". The show was fairly normal when I watched it. Serena is a girl who only thinks about the mysterious Tuxedo Mask who shows up to save her and is a very heteronormal male, etc.
Haruka and Michiru were made "cousins" in the US version, which really doesn't make anything better if you think about it.

But yeah, all I can say otherwise is that you weren't paying attention or had stuff censored from your view.

I don't think you can ascertain that much. For example, I can tell the following story, and it makes just as much sense:
An inability to possess any kind of love or desire for imperfection. The doll thus becomes attractive because it can always have the thoughts and opinions he wants it to, is always there for him, etc.

That is, perhaps real women aren't "good enough" for his standards, which are not well grounded in reality.

Well, having known the guy for well over ten years, the betrayal thing is definitely at the forefront of it, he's said as much to us. But what you posit is certainly a part of it as well to an extent, from what I've seen.

So he wrote off all women because of one? Sheesh.

Well, it was like 15 years ago, so I might need some help remembering things. I don't consider women being strong or fighting for ideals to be inherently feministic, if that's what you're referring to.

Oh, I just mean that you can't generalize real doll users as being all a part of one case. I didn't mean to make a claim about your acquaintance.

come to think of it, your digimon sans your human looking digimon are in the buff :O
Beef also created the Sonic the Hedgehog OT! Suspicious huh?!

Acceptance and understanding can only improve compared to these days:

See, that's how a healthy person reacts to furries when one is not indoctrinated through filth like Saturday morning cartoons.
I'm joking.

yeah but you're number 3 in the post list

Surely your inner fur is showing.
Huh?

I would agree wholeheartedly, but that would literally never happen, at least with my friend. It is a full blown dedicated lifestyle, one we are spared from, thankfully, for the most part. It is so intrinsically part of who he is that I seriously doubt it will ever change. It's to the level of a sexual orientation.

Dealing exclusively in fantasy is the saddest part of the entire situation (especially in the documentary you linked to). The concept that any emotional connection in what should be the most important relationship of their life is completely projected. Its what makes me wish most for them to improve their mental health.

My friend's buddy did, yeah. I have no idea what state his mental wiring is in as I find the guy to be a total noxious creep and dont asociate with him, but ladies were not going to be rolling up to this guy once he was available, ie overweight, weeaboo, and so on. Not too many 40ish women looking for that mix.

I like that people are jumping to the conclusion that everyone involved in the furry fandom is automatically a total "lifer" and raving lunatic about it, when it's really just another thing to be an enthusiast about. Some people like superheroes, some people like Star Trek. Personally, I like giant robots and generic fantasy junk like Wheel of Time, and I don't see why internet torches and pitchforks come out when someone interests happen to include anthropomorphic animals in a similar way.

You're right. Even though I'm cool with furries, I've gotten kind of lazy about making this distinction when I know better. Perhaps it's because making the distinction can sound pedantic to people who simply want to ridicule something.

Would this be better?

There hasn't even been much - if any - fan-art in the thread, let alone borderline NSFW stuff. We run a tight ship in there!

It also had crossdressing, gay relationships, and feminine boys~

Sailor Moon was ahead of its time but the US had to fucking censor it, watching it in Japanese is superior

*weird tangent cuz is watching Sailor Moon again*

anyway, furries are cool

I don't see it that way. I see it as people that don't want to make waves so they don't get banned.

It's not about "making waves," it's about having some modicum of respect for other members of the community. You don't get banned for not embracing everything with open arms, you get banned for not being civil.

Well that's a fair statement that I respect.

I don't find it any freakier then any other sexual fetish. It's when people define themselves by it and believe furrism or bronism is some sort of life choice with its own culture and philosphy that I get freaked out and irked.
