Which graphics card? Ati 9800 Pro or Nvidia5900 XT? They are both roughly the same price. The ATI being abit more expensive.

What is the RX600XT PCI? Its got good prices but its listed as PCI express device. Which motherbaords support it?

I hope you guys can help :)

I'm leaning for the ATI.

Always choose the 9800 series over the 5900 series. ATI's 9800 pro is fine, although (at least in canada), you can get your choice of ATI or 3rd party 9800 pro's for the equivalent of 200 USD.

PCI express is a new interface type (replacing PCI and AGP simultaneously) but it's pretty rare to find a motherboard with it right now.

Err, there's nothing wrong with the 5900 at all. ESPECIALLY if you like to use linux. Otherwise, it's pretty much up to your preference.

Don't be fooled, just because a Nvidia card says XT at the end it doesn't make it good. If you don't know it's Nvidia's low end card of the series. Ultra>Non Ultra>XT

PCI Express is a little overrated in my opinion. I'd just save the money you would spend on a motherboard and get a better card for example a ATI 9800 or Nvidia 5900Ultra if you're looking to run any of the games coming out IE: DOOM3, Half-life2, etc these cards have more then enough power.

I'd suggest a ATI card, I've owned both nvidia and ATI and had less problems with ATI.

Linux is another story, agreed. However, "otherwirse preference"? Put down the crack. 9800 Pro is the way to go. Slo really nailed it on the money with the this statement..

Do not buy an nVidia card released after the GF4 and before the 6800.

I remember when I "upgraded" from a Geforce 2 GTS to a Geforce 4 MX440

Then I figured out Nvidia totally boned me.

Even the 5900 Ultra crashes and burns when image quality is turned up compared to the 9800 Pro.

Exactly. The Geforce 4 Tis owned. FXs blow. 6800s are good, but I'd go with ati.

What kind of computer hardware do you have right now?

Between the 9800 PRO and 5900XT, go with the 9800PRO.

X600XT PCIexpress model isn't worth upgrading. That mofo is slower than the 9800 PRO.

The XT in 5900XT means a 5900 with a 390/700 clock instead of 400/800, with no other changes. Actual performance is a couple FPS less, so it's not akin to the MX models. The 5900 itself is NVidia's somewhat mended FX core, which addresses a few of the major flaws in the NV30.

At any rate, the 5900 compares with the Radeon 9600, not the 9800.
