Good to see Lala Land delivering what a great movie along with Hacksaw Ridge best movies of 2016 , shame trash like Rogue One or Suicide Squad made more money but whatever keep good movies coming out
GTFO

Equating RO to SS, wow. The debasement of amateur film criticism has achieved a new low.

Woah, LaLa Land got a wide-screen release? I guess I should look into checking it out this coming weekend.

I am so sore from this weekend with my swollen glands, and I can't stop laughing like a madman at this.

Damn Patriot's Day is way below initial expectations. Still find it kind of funny that the Bye Bye Man won among the new releases.

Edit: Oh my good Poor Ben Affleck can't even beat Underworld 2nd week end.

feels like everyone I know went to watch la la land this weekend. even my parents, who watch less than 1 movie a year at the theatres.

dat golden globe boost

Clearly UW:BW was simply a fake pretender. The true king was Bomba by Night.

Not even sure if Rogue One can make a profit anymore...

Do they randomly break out into songs in La La Land, like High School Musical? Or is it more like every song has context?

what do you mean by that?
i guess both, some songs just happen and others are performances if you know what i mean.

there aren't actually that many songs.

Well deserved. Hidden Figures was great by Hollywood standards.

Now make more movies like this about us and less of that Tyler Perry-esque fuckery.

TP movies are the gateway to affability. They get defenses down, and make people more likely to see movies about black people. Sure you have the "good ones" but rarely are they acting...well.. black? Or rarely are they highlighting black culture. Denzwl/smith/etc.

Even though TP is just a smh moment for a lot of people. And it brings back mammy vibes. It is covering how some people are..

That's my theory at least. It's a necessary evil. But, he's got a place in film history, that's for sure.

Oh gawd, we saw 2 trailers during Hidden Figures with Octavia Spencer playing the Magical Negro trope. My companion at the movie gasped at it. She couldn't believe it.

I just facepalmed.

Somewhat related, Janelle Monae is a fucking natural. She owned just about every scene she was in. This was her first acting gig? Fuuuuuuuuuuu...

Is it more like High School Musical where random white guy #1 is taking a shower and then he break out into a song and 6 other dudes joins him or is it more like they have an audition where they have to sing? (So it's more in context)

Lucas made the prequels for $115 million each about. Crazy how budgets for effects movies have gotten so out of hand. Then again the moment Disney does anything it costs twice as much. Even Pixar movies have crazy huge budgets.

Awesome. That's better than just random singing.

Just got back from seeing Patriot Day. Nice movie, very familiar to other disaster/drama films. Reminds me I have to watch that 9/11 movie later.

Markie Mark did a decent job in it, though I thought Kevin Bacon was awesome. The later half was much more intense. Probably not something I'd waste $13 to go see but it's worth a matinee.
