Good show. Lots of great matches.
It's funny, in WWE, Cody vs Dustin would have been a pre-PPV match that nobody would have cared about. In AEW, there was legit emotion and feeling in the match. And it felt like results mattered on the show, which hasn't happened in WWE for a long while.
I enjoyed the Japanese 6 women's match. At the start I thought it was going to be meh but it really built up into something good.
MJF's promo was great.

Pretty solid first outing for AEW overall I thought - I enjoyed it overall. Some random thoughts on last night:
- Hate to say it, but I think JR's best days are well & truly behind him. He seemed lost more than once, especially with the younger wrestlers.
- Commentary in general was pretty rough - Excalibur does a decent Mauro Ranallo impression though.
- Jon Moxley appearing was cool, but the surprise of the night for me was Awesome Kong.
- Match of the night for me was Cody Vs Dustin - that was some championship-level bleeding from Dustin. And I don't mind admitting I cried manly tears at the end. That was beautiful.
- Cody smashing up Triple H's throne with a sledgehammer was a nice touch.
- As a Brit, it's pretty weird to think that one of the first people seem with the AEW title was, of all people, Jack Whitehall... (Really nice looking belt though)
- Really enjoyed MJF's promo - and the guy's only 23! I've never seen him wrestle yet, but if it's as good as his mic work, he's got a bright future.
- Shout out to the timekeeper for giving us some quality material for the next Botchamania (in addition to Excalibur's "I am the table!").

Just finished watching AEW Double or Nothing. That shit is legit. The last 3 matches were incredible.
Brother vs. brother grudge match 3.5 out of 5 stars. Bloody and intense. Great moment of heart at the end.
Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros was insane. One of the best tag title matches, held on American soil, I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing 5 out of 5 stars.
The main event. Kenny Omega vs. the Alpha, Evil Chris Jericho. Wow. this is the best Jericho match i have seen, since, maybe ever. I've seen all the WCW and most of his WWE run. This match was great. 4 out 5 stars. Omega is a bonafide superstar in Japan and he will be one here, in America as well. He IS the Big Bout Machine. Jericho's new MMA, heavy impact, fighting style really suits him. He's put on weight, and has become a legitimate threat to all opponents.
Love the "Big Fight" feel, that AEW brought to this PPV. True fans of wrestling, both current and lapsed, need to at least give AEW a shot. After witnessing a remarkable evening of wrestling, something, I must admit, I'd never thought I'd see outside of Japan, I'm filled with unrivaled optimism that American wrestling can be incredible. Vince might not be shaking in his boots, but HHH understands what is about to happen - AEW is a legit threat to the WWE empire.
After just one ppv, I'm a confirmed convert, and will be following this wrestling product.
Great job, to the talent and all involved. Can't wait to see what will happen next.

I though Jerhico/Omega was horrible and was going in slow motion. And the botch at the end and then repeating the spot ARRGGG. I know Kenny can do better but he looked like a goober in this match with his pointing and running every move. The best part of the match was Jerhico's post match promo. But it looked like he was going to die if that match went on any longer.
The rest of the card was good but didn't really seperate itself from an NXT show. Most of these guys could just as well be in NXT. I mean in general they are mainly guys people who have created their gimmicks in places like ROH/NJPW/MLW.
SCU actually really impressed me and I think can be a great act for AEW, and Sky maybe was the most impressive guy on the show even for his limited ring time.
Like the Joshi match as well, I think AEW should focus on the Joshis, who doesn't like cute Asians beating each other up?
The blood in the Rhodes match, not for me and was pretty disgusting. Ya back in the day I loved the blood stuff, but like chair shots to the head its not something I can watch anymore. Its just cringy and gross and there isn't any reason wrestlers should be out there rolling around in each others blood. Hope no one gets hepatitis but its unsanitary and comes off really bush league. For a company that talks about talents health so much this is one area where I think they are being hypocritical.
YB vs LB great tag match and the LB are big time stars. AEW needs to take them away from Mexico and all other US promotions and start pushing them. Fenix is awesome.
Moxely showing up is actually huge IMO. Not that I think Dean is this huge draw like Hogan or something, but this is a big shot that anyone fed up in WWE can go to AEW. Dean turned down big time money, belts, TV time, pushes, heck probably more Marine movies to go to AEW and that says a lot to me.
I was down on AEW but I think it has a shot to get to at least TNA peak levels. As long as Khan is willing to fund it, it will be a thing.
One more thing, they mentioned they sold 13K and it was sold out, but did it look like to anybody that the top half was empty? I kept trying to get a look but the camera rarely ever did full crowd shots, but it seemed to be most of the upper portion of the arena had empty seats. Again could just be the way its set up or just me since I don't think they would make up the 13 K figure.
And finally the HHH bashing is just lame and so 2000's. Bash Vince, but HHH isn't the same douche he was back then. And TBH most top guys are douchey and protect their spot. Wrestling is cut throat and money and family is on the line. Austin was a douche too at times. I mean AEW has a guy on their roster who decided not to show up a few days before the show because he didn't want to lose a following match because he is a fake champion of a 3rd rate wrestling league.
HHH basically created AEW before there was AEW with NXT. He pushes the indy talent, he created the PC, MYC, CWC, NXT UK etc... Heck the guy even offered the Elite big money contracts and if it was up to him he would of pushed them to the moon. If they went to NXT instead of WWE YB and Omega would be in main events and pushed as huge stars. The guy's promotion has Johnny Gargano as champion for F's sake.

I'm not a huge fan of them taking shots at WWE either, TNA did that a lot and it made them look second rate. So I hope they move on from that. But on the other hand HHH was taking shots at them at the Hall of Fame so it's not a one way thing. We all like HHH now because of NXT but he's still that insecure guy who lashes out when he feels threatened.

Most of what I saw was great, but it wasn't perfect. I am glad it did well, extremely happy.
However, that last match was awful. I dunno what was wrong, but it was sloppy and low energy from the get go. I'm not a fan of Kenny in the first place, but I don't deny that he is skilled. Jericho has been in a lot of matches that I liked, and his NJ stuff was interesting from what I saw.
But that match was a terrible way to end the night.
The "Judas effect" or whatever he calls it was poor and was a lackluster way to end the match, earlier shots had way more impact.
Having said that, I am hoping for nothing but great things. I just hope they keep doing their own thing and not try to "beat" WWE.

I don't have much issue with taking shots at WWE or even Vince, but mocking HHH is 2000's. Its lame and passe.
And like I said if it was up to HHH the Elite would all be in WWE right now getting bit time pushes.

I may go through the event for a third time later and give my thoughts on it all since the event was that good, and I have grown overly upset with how bad WWE has been the last couple years outside of a couple things here and there (Planets Champ Bryan, Becky), but many seem to forget how easy it would/could be for the WWE to give us the same feeling AEW gave us...but possibly better.
Alot of what doesn't work for the WWE right now is how formulaic it has begun, and we don't know how AEW will handle commercials as of yet, but mid match breaks NEED TO STOP. It makes me pay no attention to the first half of matches cause they are all just WWE formula match: Punch, Kick, Headlock/rest hold, outside the ring bump, Commercial.
If WWE addressed that, and did away with the bloated 15-25 minute opening "Promo", and just gave us WRESTLING they would be fine overnight, lets not forget how good NXT is. Oh, and get rid of wildcard nonsense, you have enough stars to have two brands.
Imagine a WWE where the belts mattered and guys just had good matches that aren't so repetitive, let guys with different styles wrestle different styles. I love Kenny Omega, he's easily right there with Bryan and Becky as my favorite wrestler to watch, but imagine a world where WWE cared about wrestling the same way AEW does, and the potential great matches we would have if it wasn't the same match 20 times a month.
I mean just looking at what I consider "Great-Good" talent we have: AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, Bray Wyatt, Brock (When he's around), Cesaro, Revival, Drew McIntyre, Usos, Dorado, Metalik, Richochet, Rey?, Roode, Sami, Samoa Joe, and Seth Rollins...and that's just Raw. That's ignoring a who's who of midcard and "enhancement" talent.
This may have broke down and lost where I was going, but I'm just trying to say IF the WWE wants to give us a quality wrestling show, there is no reason they CAN'T. It's an issue of if they choose to begin leaning back into it.

I don't have problem with them taking shots at WWE, I just think its old hat with the whole HHH from 2000's hate. All though Cody is right that AEW right now is more competiting with NXT than WWE IMHO. Thats where the real fight will be.

The key to WWE is to just watch the Network.
This way you only see PPV's, which are usually pretty good and since you aren't watching weekly you don't see the same match for the 100'th time, its fresh to you.
You also get NXT and Takeover, the best brand in Wrestling.
You could add some 205 and NXT UK if you want, which are also pretty good little 1 hour shows with good wrestling and basic storylines.
Dont watch RAW/SDL weekely at best catch some youtube or read results to keep up to date.

Just a couple weeks ago HHH called AEW a “pissant company” and made fun of Cody’s executive position. I’m looking forward to when he takes control of WWE and he’s done great things with NXT but HHH is still very much HHH.

I know it's only had one official...well event so far, but I think they will be far and above ECW within 6-9 months. WAY more production value in their first show then the whole of ECW, and while there were some talented ECW performers, everybody that was shown at DoN shined. After listening to Moxley on Talk is Jericho, I just can't see myself continuing to suffer through WWE programming anymore after NXT25 (Mainly cause I want to see Prince Pretty in a meaningful match).
