I enjoy the franchise alot but I wouldn't say the physics are particularly good.

The janky physics is what makes it fun and funny.

I guess it depends on the metric for "good". It's not particularly realistic, but it does have depth. I can't think of many games that does freefall/gliding/flying so well, or has so many independent objects play off eachother for that kind of chaos.

Splatoon will always have the best movement mechanics to me. Splatoon 3 really added some good movement options. Game is slick as hell. Plus all the ink physics and the specials being thrown around.

I think the Just Cause series is the objective best here (or at least in the conversation for it). Absolute balls to the wall adrenaline and hilarity.

It's a shame the narrative and characters are so boring.

I recommend Mad Max also by Avalanche. Probably not as close in physics but still entertaining on that part.
And the story is ok!

I've played it and I loved it. Criminal it was a one and done game. I would have loved to expand in sequels
