Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Just finished watching Sony's conference was great. Didn't care to much about the TV stuff but some great games showed. No Mans Sky looked good glad its not an exclusive so everyone can play it. Destiny still looking great really not sure what platform to play it on yet.

Edge just sad.

No Mans Sky is exclusive to PC and PS4 right?

PC advantage has always existed.
This does not negate the advantage that exists by having the feature console version.

If a game is being demonstrated via advertising, developers will show off the PS4 version and that does matter.
Don't devs actually tend to show off the PC version? Definitely was the case with stuff like far cry 3 in the recent years. Unless it is explicitly mentioned I wouldn't be surprised if many of those demos we saw at ms, ubi, ea, and Sony were PC versions.

Why on earth does it matter if it's considered a press conference.

This is stupid counter argument and you know it

Jesus wept..calm down people

The article is about press conferences..what Nintendo doing is NOT a press conference. Maybe Edge should have clarified it more or something? It was pretty obvious to me

They are primarily focusing on the two console manufacturers who did press conferences too which are MS and Sony.

lol Who the fuck cares if it's pre recorded? Like all that shit you saw yesterday wasn't pre recorded. The conferences are just trailers. It really doesn't fucking matter.

I personally believe the impact is much different in those two approaches. But that's a topic for another thread, not this

After a night to sleep the hype off I still give the nod to Sony but by a tiny measure. Like B/B-. Both had solid shows but neither will go down in E3 history.

Okay, if you really insist
sure it comes down to the games you like
im not outraged...at all...i just dont take EDGE like something serious ..and seeing their "past" is pretty clear that they r biased for sony...

so that they give a "victory" to sony..was expected ....like misterxmedia will post something bad about sony tomorrow

For something you don't take seriously, you seem to be posting about it a lot.

I understand opinions and all, but when someone watches both of those conferences and comes to the conclusion that Sony won "by a landslide" it's hard to imagine they don't have some agenda.
Well I think some showed us more diversity and exclusives games... MS focused in Multiplatforms... that was my impression.

BTW from the Multiplatforms showed in both conference FarCry surprised me more.

PS. Sony conference had a 20 minutes of boring fest but the gaming content was really great.

Who cares? I also have a monster rig and there's a ton of stuff that will be console exclusive. You can't discredit that.

I just did discredit that. It's a non-victory. Console exclusive is a bulletpoint for console warriors, not for people who actually want to play the games.

How did they not??? Because yes they destroyed ms on the games front.

No they didn't. See? This can go on all day.

EDGE getting them 'I believe in Phil Spencer' stickers already fuming in the AM, I see.

I don't think either next-gen console manufacturer won this E3. Just like last year and the year before, IMHO Ubisoft had the strongest showing.
A throughout entertaining show with great games and a perfect pacing. Microsoft's was good, too structured as they had CG trailer after CG trailer in the end for their 2015 and beyond-lineup and no real surprises.
Sony had a few megatons to drop (e.g. LBP 3 out of nowhere, Far Cry 4 co-op and dat white PS4), but almost ruined their overall still good showing with the middle part,
where they completely drifted off to TV, TV, POWERS, shit talk. If they'd cut that out or shortened it to minimum, their press conference would have been the best of the decade.
Apart from those 30 minutes of horror their pacing was real good and their end was well as well. Heh.

Overall, I'd give the following grades:

Microsoft: B- (good show, but CG trailers and PC gameplay for Division/Witcher -.-)
EA: E (I don't think, we have to argue about that one, lol)
Ubisoft: A (no low-points and Aisha Tyler, pacing was perfect and they have the greatest games)
Sony: B+ (Strip that 30 minutes of horrific sute talk and we have ourselves a solid A as well)

So out of the two console manufacturers, yes, Sony won. They had more games, more gameplay and also a broader array of genres.
Nintendo do their own little thing, where they're not competing with the rest of the bunch. We'll see what they have planned out for their clap-lacking Direct today.

Train wreck?

Do you even own a PS4?

Haha, of course I do. I'm not trying to be a fanboy, it was just a bad show. There were no major surprises, Shawn Layden and Bendis talked about nothing for 30 minutes, then there was some cool Batman stuff. Uncharted 4 teaser wasn't even good, it was just... something.

I disagree, I felt that real people were playing the game like you and I would once we would have gotten our hands on it. It felt truly authentic in he way it was presented even if it was not meant to be that way. I felt I was at a friends house watching them play this game.

Will get day 1, kiddos loved it!!

I agree. Just because it wasn't a blantantly choreographed playthrough like The Division, Far Cry 4, or Titanfall people think it is clumsy and boring. I appreciate the authenticity of a real playthrough, mistakes and all.

Bloodborne didn't help?

It would've helped if i hadn't seen more of the game from 3 shitty leaked webM, than on Sony's Press conference.

A CGi trailer for that game was probably the thing that pissed me off the most.

It's probably gonna be a stellar game, but it wasn't this conference to solidify that fact, just my confidence in Miyazaki.

So yeah, before i was sure PS4 was the console to prioritize, now i'm not so sure.

Especially since i have a gaming PC.

I feel like I've fallen into a bizarre parallel world where I had the pain of sitting through Sony's presser instead of the awesome one these guys saw.

oh come on. The conference only took a dive when the CEO of Sony of America took the stage. Before and after it, it completely one upped microsoft's.

They bought the 360 more because of it. They're buying the PS4 more because of it. They do.

We also live in an age where social media is king. Im sure news will continue to circulate on the intrawebs that one console gets the better looking games even if the casuals dont understand what to look for.

Shawn Layden it on pretty thick.

But he should have opened and gone away, he is the new head of SCEA and HAD to be there. Its his first time on stage at E3 so I'll give him some lee-way

My first impression is that Ubi, MS and Sony had equally uneven shows, I prefer EA this time around. However if you look at the games I would say that Sony had the best line-up for me, followed by Ubi, then EA and only then MS.

I mean MS has shown an abundance of immature cartoony titles, with narrative barely there, also almost all of the games were coop oriented, which is a huge turn-off for me. I like some coop from time to time, but forcing it into single player is just horrible. Their overall presentation was admirably cut to the chase and very honest.

Ubi however had that huge black chick drop obscenities like no tomorrow, she was the single worst thing to happen to me this year, her and these horrible Rabbids with low brow jokes. Games however were 50/50 some of them were really good, but none of them looked really stellar apart from The Division. AC was marred by forced coop, Far Cry too, R6? Really? All the gadgets and planning go down the drain the instant you smash your first wall.

Sony had a great start, but then that fat disappointment came to the stage and began mumbling and awkward-joking his way through the conference. Jeez, I just wish Tretton was inexplicably back as the next year's host. An abundance of good titles with rich narrative and good single player was marred by WTF moments like TLOU monsters in D3 and this embarrassing sales pitch of TV stuff. Powers my ass, seriously. R&C movie? Good lord, as if we didn't have enough 3d animated movies before. But then the conference got back on track and I was absolutely happy when I saw Uncharted trailer in the end.

EA had a good conference with good presenters, focused presentations and a good variety of games. Seriously, that's how you do these media briefings.

I don't know if you're trolling, or if that's your actual opinion, but holy hell do I disagree with it in almost every way regardless.

Yep. Gamers win, and Edge just continues to be disappointingly sensational with their headlines. It's fine to have that perspective; just remember that not everyone really wants a clear "winner" from E3 now. It's alright to want everyone - including the Big N - to do well.

Not the same Edge I used to read, which had a love of games and passion for the industry. Console wars stuff is fun on a forum of fans but has no place in journalism. That article praising the Sony conference for things they then begrudgingly were relieved was not in the Xbox conference, TV and entertainment, was pathetic. More sad that it was the same writer.

Console wars: Revengeance

It's not a fair war tho, MS fans are outnumbered.

The persecution is strong with this one. I imagine people will be whining about the media's perceiving of Sony winning for the next few days, but the MS fans will get over it.

Shawn Layden was terrible. It would be in their best interests to keep that guy behind closed doors.

how can ppl support an article like that...cmon leeroy....who have watched both conference..know that there isnt a victory...and is just stupid to claim it

i understand opinions....but really

It's certainly click bait which all media is guilty of but you proposing a Sony bias is just a bit ludicrous if you have been reading Edge for a long time

I don't know why Sony thinks stuff like this is cool. TLOU crossover with Diablo? This was worse than the Powers TV show segment, and that is a bold statement.

I don't see what's the harm in free crossovers that impact anyone or anything. It's just a neat 'nod'. That TV show thing was by far the worst thing I saw yesterday, it wouldn't have been so bad if they had a trailer or something for the show ... but concept art? Please.

That's when I almost fell asleep (no lie, I started to struggle around then - long day.)

I felt the exact opposite. Andrew's presentation somehow irks me, was relieved when Shawn began to talk.

Presentation-wise, Sony was a mess to me. The new guy was pretty bad, lots of small mistakes during the presentation, people giving speeches seemed not too confident about what they were talking...

Aisha was excellent and looked like she actually having fun, as for games, Ubisoft had the BEST trailers, not necessarily the 'best' games

Anyone else think it felt a little empty without Squeenix and Capcom? I know FF15 isn't coming out till like 2037 and that Deep Down is totally up in the air, but I think they could've added a lot of hype to the conference.

A white ps4 is a "megaton"?

This, I was at one of the theater showings and LBP3 got one of the biggest reactions. People were laughing and cheering, it was an authentic moment and that is rare at these types of things.

If they aren't competing with the PC, then yes it is a victory. Having a visual competitive edge over your direct competition matters to some extent. PC gaming didn't shrink Sonys market share last gen. It was the Xbox 360.

Reposting:

I don't really even see how Sony's lineup was 'much better' frankly. Lots of multiplatform stuff (most of the best stuff was multiplatform, really), The Order and Destiny still look boring, TLOU remaster, so far as I can tell from the trailer is completely pointless, CGI trailers out the wazzoo just like MS. To be fair I've never played LBP so that might be amazing, but it didn't personally hype me, tho it was cute.

I would put them neck and neck on game showings. But good lord, Sony's presser could have been half as long and it still would have dragged. Please Sony just hire someone funny next year, Aisha Tyler completely slayed everyone else on stage.

I don't see how anybody could say with a straight face that Sony 'outclassed' MS even when they weren't making me want to claw at my skin from boredom. I would put them on squarely even footing.
