I sooooo can't wait to read all the reviews here on GAF - I hope some of you can just keep a sorta 'diary' up and leave feedback as you're playing the game! We've put soooo much of ourselves into it and we've been playtesting like crazy for the last 2 weeks, just to find every last nook and cranny that's not perfect yet.

Can't tell you guys how excited I'll be following GAF when Ori releases :) :) :)

Looking forward to seeing if the team managed to tweak the movement controls so it doesn't require absolute precision from start to finish.

I don't mind a challenge (and I can very much see Ori being a game that appeals to speed runners), but Ori is exactly the type of game that would appeal to my SO in terms of look and feel. As soon as she hits those pixel perfect jump requirements though, that would be it for the game.

Hahaha :D We actually invited quite a lot of female testers with little to no gaming experience to our playtesting sessions and I also had my 'SO' play through Ori. And she never played anything else before.

Obviously, there are tough parts where you might have to help her out, but we also balanced the game so that if something's too difficult for you, you can just go around and explore to find more abilties, etc. that'll make your life easier (i.e.: Get that Triple Jump early on!)

Also, the Ability Tree is balanced in that way as well: If you take a lot of damage, you might want to invest into the defensive abilities... just a hint :)

I was thinking more of the rushing water in the second half of the Ginso Tree. ;)

When I played in Jan, that area required absolute precision since the water didn't move up at a constant speed (if you got ahead of it, it would "jump" to catch up as soon as the screen shifted) so a single missed jump meant a re-load. Then again, there was no triple jump available when I played (demo build had three pre-selected levels w/loadouts). If so, it may have been easier.

You can read my full thoughts in a preview published early last month.

Haha, yeah. We tweaked the waterRising sequence for GamesCom and PAX to be especially challenging. The final version is a bit less devious. If my girlfriend managed to do it, chances are your better half will also be able to beat it :)

I really want to get this game but the difficulty might throw me off.

How hard is it? Is it frustrating hard like series of timings over and over in a row or smart hard as in puzzle solving and numerous ways to do area? If you know what I mean?

I wouldn't be too worried about Ori being anywhere near as difficult as something like Super Meat Boy. Having said that, it does have quite a punch in terms of difficulty. At the same time, you can save everywhere in the game and I had lots of people with less experience in gaming finishing it. The light RPG elements help to balance that out - I think the crazy Gaming Ninjas will probably try to beat it without using the Ability Tree at all, but most people will try to strategize a bit.

Don't worry, just try it :)

When I played the preview build, the challenge was in the timing of movement and jumps. Knowing what to do or how to solve a puzzle was always pretty straightforward.

The first demo level was more of a training level. The Ginso Tree (as noted above) required super precision to complete, but thomasmahler said that they purposefully increased the difficulty there (I suppose that would explain why the producer was surprised I had completed all three levels).

The last demo level I played, Forlorn Ruins had its difficultly in the use of blind jumps. There were a few places where you didn't know what was ahead until you made the jump. So basically you had to save, make the jump, and if you guessed wrong, reload and then jump to the correct side.

Is there an achievement for that? I'm the furthest thing from an "achievement whore", but it's always nice when developers make achievements that encourage different styles of play or are unique in their own way (my go-to examples are Episode One's "One Free Bullet" and Episode Two's "Little Rocket Man").

Edit: I'm starting to think I'm on your ignore list.

If u can save anywhere Than that's cool, hate doing something real hard Than make a silly mistake straight after and go freak have to do that again.

Maybe you were playing too fast or the build was pretty old... there shouldn't be any blind jumps in the game. We always tried to make sure the camera adjusts properly, so you see where you're able to go :)

TM, my wife just watched this and said it looks like something she (an.occasional gamer) wants to play. So that's another sale for you :)

Same here. My girlfriend watched the trailer recently and commented on how beautiful is was. She sometimes reads a book whilst I game but this one drew her in.

Just wanted to say that I'm beyond excited for this and so happy the release date is finally approaching. We're so close. Thought this looked beautiful and emotive from the first unveiling. Fell in love with this from the first trailer. I think I'm going to adore it. Love the art style and concept. Just over a week away now. Subbed.

It looks even better in motion :) All the particles flying around, the interactive lighting, all the movement in the environment, the post, etc, etc. - And soon you'll be able to open that gate to enter Mount Horu!

Is there a demo planned for this? it might help sales on the Xbone.

Still undecided on which system I'll get this.

Here's an inside-scoop: We initially wanted to do a demo that'd run in browsers. The idea behind this was that people would be able to play the E3 / Gamescom, etc. builds while the event is going on. I always loved the idea - Journalists could play at our booths and every gamer out there could immediately try it and get a feel for the controls, etc.

In the end, that plan was canceled for security reasons... Maybe we'll be able to pull it off on our next games. I still think gamers should be able to actually PLAY games during these tradeshow events instead of just watching videos! With Unreal Engine 4 and Unity3d being able to run in browsers now, there shouldn't be any arbitrary limits anymore.

Need to grab a XBO for this. But already PS4 owner and a wedding & honeymoon to pay for.. how will I get away with this :D

Aww c'mon man !! These games with the feels always get me..

Day 1 buyer here - it helps that my 2 year old son is simply entranced with the colours/visuals he's seen on the trailers and my wife loved the snips of the soundtrack you guys put up !

Show your wife the trailer and tell her that it's a game she'll enjoy, too! I promise you'll both cry before it ends :)
If the opening of the game is the initial trailer shown at e3 I have already cried about this game. The visuals and music combined in that scene together had tears welling up.

This and Bloodborne are my March games but I am more excited to get my hands on this. It is just looking like an amazing title, really looking forward to this and the release can't come soon enough.

Oh no. This is going to be like the opening 5 minutes of Up! again, isn't it? That was upsetting enough.

Again, thank you guys so much for all the support. Our entire team is reading along and it's just really good to see the excitement :)

How many segments of escaping water/flames/spikes/etc. are there throughout the game?

I saw a gameplay video that showcased the white fellow jumping away from rising water. Turned it off immediately. I am not the biggest fan of running away from a wall of death. But now since the release is near I'm wondering if I still might be interested.
