First 27 Minutes of RiME Gameplay

I can't believe people are still skeptical. I skipped around in the video to not spoil much. If this were all pre-rendered don't you think they'd choose a smoother running animation or better AI and collision detection with the boars. There's quite a bit of jankiness in this footage that wasn't present in the old, presumably faked, reveal trailer. At one point a baby boar even glitches out on a rising platform. Why would you fake something and include such obvious flaws?

This was someone playing the game, no 'canned' footage or staged scripts. The player sat down with a controller and made decisions on where to go, what and who to interact with and figured out puzzles on their own.

Can you explain the weird cuts ? I understand why you would cut when the player presumably dies (as it may not be ready to be shown yet) but why the early cut, at about two minutes ?

Looks like a PSN store game.
Is that supposed to be some kind of insult towards the game? Kind of a pathetic one at that if it is.

I mean, this IS a digital only game. It doesn't have the budget of Last Guardian so of course there's going to be some lower-budget jank, but it's still a decently pretty game thanks to its great art style.

I'm not too impressed. Looks like typical indie fare to me
These aren't the kinds of games you watch someone else play. This is the kind of game that is at its best when you get the controller in your own hands and get to explore at your own leisure.

It's not digital only (on consoles). But i agree with what you said.

Said it in the other thread, they beat team ico at their own game, especifically ICO.

I don't get what this means. You mean this game looks superior to ICO? That shouldn't be too difficult, ICO came out a long time ago. Do you mean this game does what ICO does but better? That remains to be seen.

Looks great, but people thinking this is above and beyond the accomplishments of Team ICO have no idea what they're talking about.

Regarding the running animation.. Think there is an animation of running down hill versus flat.

Yeah, exactly. You can't run down a steep hill the same way as you'd run on a flat surface (unless you'd prefer to run half and tumble the other half).

People endlessly comparing the game to Team ICO games as if they have a patent on third-person puzzle-platformers or young male protagonists are becoming tiresome IMO. If anyone can identify something specific and unique to Team ICO's work that this game does, I'd love to hear about it.

So I think I figured out what happened.

During the game play they probably stopped to speak with some of the developers, or the Tequila Works dev that was sitting with them and instead of having a bunch of time of The Boy sitting idle, they cut out that time. To hide it they added that IGN transition. That is our current working thought until we can find out directly.

It's great that there's separate run animations for running downhill and flat, they both just pull the elbows and knees up too hard, keeps the most basic movement from looking smooth and effortless. Though, I probably spend way too long thinking about run cycles...

Basically this lol.

Regardless the game does not look at all like the game I was excited for at the PS4 reveal. Meh.
This looks exactly what the game always did. I don't know what kind of fantasy scenarios you came up with in your head about what this game would be, but this kind of leisurely exploration of an open-worldish small island with some puzzle solving, interactions with animals and light platforming with a storyline that probably involves figuring out what the mysterious ancient looking architecture is about is is exactly what the early trailers showcased, at least that was what I always figured this game would mostly be like. And it's not like the first 27 minutes can showcase everything that a game has to offer.

Actually no, it looks extremely similar to the game they showed at the PS4 reveal.

It might look different to how you remember it, but that's an entirely different thing.

Seriously. I don't know what kind of mass-delusion event occurred around the original reveal, but I keep hearing this "It doesn't look the same" stuff all over the place, and it seems like absolute crazy talk to me. The game looks almost identical in all three major trailers.

I really don't understand why some people keep saying stuff like this, is it because it's similar to ICO but prettier? Because while the game doesn't look as bad as the rumours suggested, nothing I've seen comes even close to the things that made ICO an incredible game: Its world building and storytelling.

Good thing it's priced like one then huh

It has a physical release, same price, $30

looks way, way better than i expected. Seems those rumours were false or quite hiperbolic

it sure doesn't look like the reveal

i mean, if you're blind

cause it looks exactly like the reveal

What is it about this game that stirs so much negativity in people? Jesus. I think it looks gorgeous and shows promise gameplay-wise.

The running animation is fine. You're playing as a little cartoonish kid and I could easily shrug that off. I like it.
