Rumor: Beyoncé enters $25m deal w/ Disney to produce Lion King music, star as Nala

Is GAF being serious about this $2 billion thing or not I can't even tell.

I don't really fuck with worldwide boxoffice because it's emptier and less worthwhile than the domestic stuff.

But I do think that if there's a movie in the next 5 years that has a legitimate shot of getting closer to 1bil domestic than The Force Awakens, its this remake of Lion King.

I'm not saying it will.

I'm saying it's the only one I see even having the shot.

So they let a terrible singer do the soundtrack for a remake to a film known for its good soundtrack? ok...

1) FOH
2) If Elton John could carry the first one, Beyonce can carry this one.

Someone said "the black demo turn out hard for black films"

And you said that Girls Trip is relatable to Beyoncé being in Lion King.

Black women wanting to see representation on the screen? Unless you think Lion King is going to be disrepectable to them

I am just not getting why you so mad about it

Lol yeah, right.

You do realize that this has been tried before with Bey right?

Anecdotal but I hardly even remember that movie ever existing let alone know that Beyonce was in it. They certainly didn't market the movie with her role prominent

Again...just as silly as what he initially said.

Girls Trip is considered the best comedy of the year so far, it goes beyond the black demo. Look at its hold on the 2nd weekend, that's word of mouth not that just black people are going in droves to see it.

Saying black people go hard for black films is so ignorant. Yeah sure, you got Tyler perry movies making 60/70m every once in a while but chill out with that crap.

You know you need jesus when you're upset that white people aren't given credit for a black film's success.

Formation still has many people shook, I see.

Some of you are so insane with ssumptions lol

I mean you're the one who foamed at the mouth because dude said black folks specifically black women turn out for black films, then when on a whatabout in regards to other viewships, then came back around about Tyler Perry films.

But I mean, take on that I'm innocent role.

Uh..have you ever heard her sing? Like seriously, you can argue a million things but Beyoncé being a bad singer is not one of them, even if you don't like her music, you can admit she has a talented voice.

I think this could be the one. Lion King is universally beloved. Women love it. Men love it. Four quadrant movie up and down.

If she only sings Can You Feel Love The Tonight and something for the end credits, we're good. Any more and we have a problem.

Most likely. This movie will be huge. Plus episode 9 the same year. Disney gonna be making that money.

And Avengers. And Toy Story. And Frozen.

Do people unironically think Beyonce is a terrible singer or is this one of these "I hate anything popular" things Gaf does?

Most people don't like the way she carries herself ask them to actually expand on that, and basically comes down to...she reminded folks she was black. That SNL skit was really poignant in how many folks reacted to Formation, and how their views of her shifted around the same time coincidentally.

This is Bey we are talking about.

That 25 million is to SAY she produced the music, not for her to actually produce the music. Bey has been in the business of buying writing credit for a lonnng time.

Wafflecakes, you can stop being pressed now seeing as this has nothing to do with the topic at hand. This is reaching at its finest. Plus you absolutely have no proof of this outside of again, false accusations...moving on.

TBH, it's going to be real interesting seeing Bey speak for Nala considering how heavy handed she delivers her lines from her other movies. I'm mean she could hire a better acting coach to make her sound more natural but there's no way they could get her out of her southern twang but we'll see. I'm excited, the cast is already great so this would be huge for a lot of people.

I liked the casting, not really thrilled about the music...

Being absolutely serious, it probably will be close to $2bn, I've felt that way for ages. At the very least it's making Jurassic World money.

Lion King has a lot in its favor. It's arguably the biggest animated film of all time, Disney Home Video VHS/DVD/Blu has made it more or less a global institution in the time since it released, the sequel was by far the most successful straight to home video release of all time, it's still a strong merchandise brand, the musical is the most successful musical in history and is still running, it's had multiple television shows including a popular one that's currently running, and of course the film itself is still beloved to this day, with the original audience now being old enough to have kids that they will want to watch the movie with. It also has a proven director, great cast, and is exactly the kind of film that will do gangbusters overseas.

It has everything going for it that Jurassic World, Beauty and the Beast, and The Jungle Book had and so much more. If there's anything that can make a run for The Force Awakens-tier money, it's this.

the OG Lion King was stacked with Broadway alumni and theater.

I find that the it makes a massive difference from the OG Films compared to the new ones.

She does have a good voice

People still shittin on Beyonce, lol.

If you don't like pop music, that's alright, but don't act like she isn't a good vocalist. Also, I can't help but think that people who regard her work as being bad or lacking in artistic merit, AFTER her self titled and Lemonade, probably take themselves too seriously and aren't judging the work on its own merits. Reminds me of people who tried to say to me that Yeezus and MBDTF were boring and lacking in substance just because they didn't like Kanye.

EDIT: It's even weirder here though, cause while I thought the hate was excessive at times, I can understand why some people would be turned off by Kanye's personality. A far as I'm aware, Beyonce has been pretty chill in her interactions with other people, so I don't really understand the source of the disdain.

I still don't really know why this is a thing that needs to exist.

This is the same site where people can recite you the composers of OSTs and they anime music but act as if they have no clue who Beyonce is so...

Considering how the Beauty and the Beast remake was a bit too similar to the original, I kind of hope they deviate a bit from the original film and put an interesting spin on the old songs along with adding a few new ones.
