When my wee lad and girl where a young age I tried to get both of them into Starwars, from the cartoons to playing out the characters to watching the prequels and it was the boy who loved it, the wee girl went meh and has absolutely zero interest in it, anecdotally I know no girl into Starwars, all her mates think it's stupid and all the wee lads mates love it... How the fuck Disney can't get this is beyond me, yes there are loads of female fans but they are absolutely dwarfed by us Y chromo's and when you produce shite aimed at the smaller demographic don't be fucking surprised when the boys and their dads don't watch it

Their technique for getting girls was just making trashy movies with checklists of things modern women are "supposed" to be into, like being invincible and having colorful hair, and counting on men not to leave just because they're too stupid to think critically if it says "Star Wars" (which many stans are, but not nearly enough to pay the bills).

The best Star Wars EVER was with women was Mandalorian. Just a beat up vulnerable dude against the universe trying to get a kid to safety. One million times better than Rey.

I think about 95% of the female fandom of LOTR was just these two.

Same with the MCU and Tony, Steve, Thor, etc. The ladies responded to male flesh and the love story woven into the films, tough macho guys curbed by the love of a single woman. This is why more femininst takes on male genres falls flat for everyone. Women don't give a shit about shooting people, "kicking ass", or any of that crap.

It's not common but there are a few women who like Star Wars. I had a female friend who liked both Star Wars and Star Trek. The lead singer of The Birthday Massacre is a big Star Wars fan.

But mostly it's still boys I don't know why they're trying so hard to completely shift it over and make it feminine.

I don't understand how you can fuck it up so badly. SW is not rocket science, this is not Vanilla Sky (which is a fucking awesome film btw), you get the bad guys doing bad PG-13 things, you get good guys protecting the weak and the innocent. In the middle you have pew pew in space with sounds and glowing sticks. THAT'S IT!

As opposed to ST, Star Wars never tried to be super scientifically accurate, it was good popcorn entertainment. If you don't have an idea you do a more gritty 'Casino Royale' - Rogue One worked fucking wonders.

Don't even get me started they had Thrawn Trilogy on a silver platter and decided to fuck it, because our liberal arts writers can come with a better story. Guess what, they can't!

Uh, yes they can. It's viewers' fault for not being able to appreciate their depth and nuance (and bravery).

It's understandable. Most normal people can't, without help from a source like the New York Times. And if you're not smart enough to take that first step, well not everyone gets to understand fine art, and you can't force them. It is what it is.

I don't know. I like that trilogy, but it still has dumb emperor cloning and isn't perfect. You also have to deal with the adaptation and they would hire terrible people to do it. Even Kasdan wrote bad SW films. While I think it would have been fun to do that trilogy, I don't think it would have been good.

But would you want an espionage subplot, a few gun battles, a conversation between the male characters that happens to take place in a brothel, or long discussions about battle tactics and the roman empire as an appeal to men? Or just acknowledge that some stuff has cross over appeal and be glad that is the case without chasing an illusionary audience?

Imagine a "Murder HE Wrote" show. Silly, isn't it? Either riff farther off the concept like Castle or stick to the thing the audience wants.

100% agree. If Austen tried to shoehorn any of the above to appeal to as many people as possible then her books would have been an incoherent mess.

I don't think so, Filoni of course is deeply wedded to Ashoka and is using her to spearpoint into his version of the Thrawn stuff, so I'm sure we will see more of her.

Needs a decade to blow the stink off. Anything sooner and the brand will fully transition into a pure lolcow in the American zeitgeist. It's dangerously close to it now. That kind of reputation isn't easily lost. I watched Force Awakens in theaters with a good amount of hype. Now, a product like Outlaws actually has to work harder for my attention. The Star Wars brand is something you have to overcome now. It doesn't help you. Any TV show you make might be better off as just a new SciFi IP. I'd probably at least watch your entire trailer that way.

Yeah, but it is as low rated as acolyte. While I appreciate the value in an adult Star Wars that audience isn't that large. It's family entertainment, so stuff like Mando and the clone wars.
