How much will the PS6 cost?

Based on the $699 USD Pro, how much do you think the PS6 will launch for?

Depends what year this is launching, 2029?
I would think Fall 2028 is when we'll see it.

PS5 - Nov 2020
PS5 Pro - Nov 2024 (+4yrs)
PS6 - Nov 2028 (+4yrs)

Any later than that and they risk losing the enthusiasts going to PC chasing the much more powderful hardware options.

Sonys problem has always been pricing, immediately I think of the PS3, people thinking bundling a game or extra controller will solve the problem.

Let's see:
  • Prices of components are barely dropping anymore.
  • TSMC keeps raising prices on their commercial nodes.
  • Logistic costs keep increasing as well.
  • We're in an inflationary market.
Yeah, better buckle up.

I see you also hide your drugs inside your PC case. A man of culture.

It's probably going to be $600-$650. Either way it's going to be a tough sell for them. Especially if they go higher than that. If they go $800 then they've lost the plot and I'd rather have a new PC that can blow anything they can do out of the water.

It'll be a incremental upgrade they'll slap a £600 price tag on it. I think they'll try to copy Nintendo and try to get away with the cheapest internals possible, why should they put a powerful and expensive GPU/CPU in the ps6 when they're competing with no one? what's the point? it's all about the profit margins now.

If it's $599 or more then we will have the PS5 as a development baseline for another decade. That is simply not a mass market price for shinier puddles.

Not a dollar less than $599 in the best-case scenario.
Bold for some of you to assume that it will play physical media AT ALL.

Lease only. The monthly premium will depend on what tier of PSN PLVS VLTRA you want. Imagine only having to put down your $150 security deposit on launch day. That's a lot of money you can spend on peripherals and in-game cosmetics. Everyone has a $99 phone bill these days, why wouldn't they accept a $99 gaming bill? The value is there.

$2,999

Sony recommends that you rob a bank to buy one. Preferably the bank where Microsoft has its cash.

USD$699 with no disc drive.
USD$99 for the disc drive.
Proprietary storage expansion options.

The PS5 Pro will be Sony re-setting market expectations. They have no competition; no need to take a loss on the hardware anymore.

Im betting the starting price (Digital Console) will be $599. No way it will be cheaper than a PS5 but i also dont think they gonna try sell a product for the masses at the same price as a PS5 Pro that targets a niche audience.

The main consoles are always build around a good price-performance ratio and i dont see that changing. A PS5 Pro is essential the same type of product as a Dualsense Edge. It just offers more than what already exists to a niche audience that are willing to pay more for it.

I think a PS6 is 4-5 years away now. The GPU they stuck in this is similar to a 7700xt with 8000 series ray tracing cores and I'm guessing XDNA cores. 7700xt is a 245W TDP chip. It'll be years until there's a solid upgrade over that with reasonable power/cooling unless they're deciding that they're going to throw in some fat heatsinks and a case fan like 200mm and shape it like a larger rectangle XSX.I'd think they'd want at least double the compute power of the Pro for the 6. Doubling the 7700xt at 245W TDP, that's years from now and expensive. $700 actually sounds reasonable 4-5 years from now but mentally I have trouble seeing anything above $600 as mass marketable for a video game console.

Getting to the price where a Valve/Steam subsidized hardware profit margin Steam Machines chapter 2 can be competitive in price and it being a full fledged PC. Install Davinci Resolve and have your major production video editor (Davinci Resolve is available for Linux) on your gaming console. Throw in Blender, Krita, and Darktable. Blender and Krita are on Steam

PS1: $611 (1995)
PS2: $546 (2000)
PS3: $778 (2006)
PS4: $538 (2013)
PS4 Pro: $522 (2016)
PS5: $606 (2020)
PS5 Pro: $699 (2024)

*adjusted for inflation

With inflation not slowing down anytime soon $800 would be my guess $900 if you want a disc and stand

Like iphone price model:
700-800$ for ps6/ps6 with disc drive
1000-1100 for ps6pro/ ps6pro with disc drive

700 base model probably this time with no pro model down the line.

You cant launch a 1.000 pro and 4 years later a 700 ps7 that is marginal better. And you cant keep hiking prices.

If they choose the 700 dollar model i think they abandon pro consoles.

Edit: in fact I believe it will cost whatveer the ps5pro costs at that time... so if the price goes down to 599 or 650 thats the launch price of the ps6.. if stays at 700 thats it.

If the pro is a success PS6 is going to be 799 or 899 especially since Xbox is almost out the paint in the console space. The PS4 Pro was 399 and the PS5 was 499. The price goes up for next gen especially when you have new tech and new exclusives. The only way PS6 is 599 or 699 is PS5 pro has to bomb hard.

I think 699 at bare minimum. The Pro would have to drop in price for this, and that didn't happen to base PS5 after 4 years. I think this is the new norm and adjusted for inflation it isn't much different from all the previous PS consoles.

Shipments will completely sell out anyway, at least for the first few years. The Pro will be an example of this; its likely going to be sold out for a while.

They have no competition in the living room. All the folks dancing on Xbox grave (myself included for a time) this is the future. No incentive to have or maintain a competitive price.
As has been pointed out, it's probably not this. Nintendo's pricing has been sticky af, and Microsoft is repackaging the Series X for 599 for 2TB of drive space.

Also, I'm still dancing on Xbox's grave. Their position is entirely their own fault. The near future for console gaming might be more expensive, but Xbox's vision was both more expensive with even less (imitation) ownership, and crappier games. They tried to flip the market on its head.

Xbox literally bowing out was not a good thing for us gamers.

Now Sony is at a position to price its console at whatever point that will help them rake billions in profit.

Ellon musk had once tweeted that he wants to enter the gaming market.
Some one should get the message across that now is the best time for him to save the console gaming industry.

He is also a gamer. So, he may just respond.
