State of Play returns 9/24

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Which of these in-the-pipeline projects will finally get announced?

Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered
Horizon: One Dawn
Horizon: Two Dawn
Horizon: Red Dawn
Horizon: Blue Dawn
Horizon: Forbidden East
Horizon: Call of the Valley
LEGO Horizon Karts

These games are the worst kept secrets at Sony

In the last one Sony spending 10~15 minutes in Concord. Things don't end up really well for this one, so I guess their learn the lesson? PS Showcase last year also was a let down, so I'm hoping this one to be THE good one.

They are close to open the pre-orders of PS5 Pro, so the common sense say they should show something exciting, right? Not that hard, Sony, just show us Wolverine, Death Stranding and Tsushima Sequel. Really not that hard...

Just in time for the showcase and to pre order my PS5 Pro.

Glad I ended up being vindicated on the Pro based on DF footage.

Don't have high expectations for the State of Play - but, it's weird that Sony hasn't "tamed" expectations like they have in the past. But it's also not a showcase. So either Sony is trolling us and the show is going to be like a showcase, or it's going to disappoint. I'm going with the latter. No new big first party game announcements, mostly third parties, some PSVR2 ports (Astro?), etc. Big update will just be about Death Stranding 2....which will look sensational on the Pro

The overall inconsistency from Sony's upgrade paths was a little frustrating. And I'm not in the camp that demands them be free as I'm willing to pay something if effort is being put in to the native PS5 versions. My limit is probably $10 though.
I don't think it's that hard these days.
Everything in the first months was free, and then they became $10 upgrade paths after Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut being $30 (and still, $10 if you go DC PS4 to DC PS5).
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered *should* be $30 MSRP, unless Guerrilla is making a new expansion for it like Sucker Punch did with GOT, which would be a very weird choice considering The Frozen Wilds already exists.

god please no. An announcement that Kingdom Hearts is being put out to pasture in favor of a Yasumi Matsuno (of Vagrant Story fame) developed new IP would be infinitely more satisfying.
Riot it is then. *Grabs torch and pitchfork* Which way to ECOPT?

We shall see. I'm mostly just curious how it gets handled on PC.

I don't expect much from the SoP but I like the sound of the pacing of 20 games in 30 minutes, maybe get a couple of "Yeah I will play that" type of games.

I too look forward to snagging a Pro or two and hope they have decent numbers on the regular Pro

Yeah 20 games seems like a lot. Undoubtedly a lot of it will be unexciting indie stuff or whatever, but should hopefully have some bangers? Some new announcements?

Doesn't say anything about new Sony FP games in their blog.

So looking at what is already announced, there's basically Wolverine and Death Stranding 2. Would be cool to see both, though I am doubtful about Wolverine. Just doesn't seem like the kind of event where ND or SP show up or else it'd be a showcase.

I think it'll be a C grade. I still hold out hope they'll do something in December for 30 years of PlayStation.

I really think it'd be foolish if they didnt.

This is the first State of Play in like two to three years that I feel somewhat positive about.

I mean, they just announced the Pro. So they have to announce some new games to go with it. Right? Right? Please, tell me I'm right.

I think it'll just be the HZD Remaster (and the Days Gone Remaster if it really exists)

Rest will be Third Party

Good Lord, I would hope Sony is smarter than that. They have this super expensive new piece of hardware coming to market shortly. They do realize they need games to entice people to buy it, don't they? Their leadership can't possibly be that daft, could they?

Exactly, the pre-orders for the pro are opening in just a few days. If Sony wants to actually move some units, they'll need to give people a reason to open up their wallets. And if we know this, then sony knows this.

We need to realize at some point that Sony has announced several new games in these past three years, they just haven't showed them all in a single show like most people want them to.

More like what happened to Sony. Why are they waiting until the day before to announce stuff like this?
Whoever has been doing their marketing needs to be fired, without question. If you want people to actually view your promotional material, why not let people know in advance?

Unless of course, they themselves know their SOPs have been underwhelming and not worth advertising lol

And since Slimy has me on ignore, remember that Jeff Grubb also said that he has no actual idea of what's in the SoP.
I think is time to stretch buddy ... one more shitty sop with no new first party games to account for will require that extra level of spin from you. Bigger than the usual ones

20 games should put the odds in favour of getting some great stuff. Hopefully that's not padded with too many remasters.

Thanks, that legit made me laugh.
Anyway, SOPs without first-party games? I think we haven't had these since... February 2023.

*Based on the ratio of 1 good game per 6 clunkers from past SOP's. We will see 3-4 good games this time.

The only thing that would interest me would be the release of the last FF7 game and PSVR2 news, like Wipeout coming. Not very interested in anything else at this point.

No Geoff Keighley? If no why would I ever want to watch, he barely gets to be involved in anything these days.....

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
September 2022 and January 2024 SOPs were better than the 2021 Showcase.
Absolutely, January 2024 was more reactionary though.
And this kinda is the problem with Playstation since 2020.

In what way?
The 2023 Showcase was heavily criticised and many outlets was echoing what we had been saying for ages after that event, they followed up with that SOP.
Hopefully this SOP will be the same after the PS5 Pro reveal.
