DoorDash Partners with Klarna to Offer US Customers Even More Convenience with Flexible Payments

New partnership gives customers more ways to pay for groceries, retail, meals and more

Mar 20, 2025

Klarna, the AI-powered payments and commerce network, and DoorDash, the premier local commerce platform, have partnered to offer Klarna's flexible range of payment options to DoorDash customers. In the coming months, DoorDash customers will be able to enjoy Klarna's seamless range of payment options when purchasing groceries, retail, and even DashPass Annual Plan – on DoorDash.com or through the DoorDash app.
When customers reach check-out, they'll see Klarna as an additional payment option, giving them more freedom to choose how they want to pay. Options will include:
  • Pay in Full allows customers to pay for what they love right away using Klarna's seamless payments experience.
  • Pay in 4 allows customers to pay in four equal interest-free installments
  • Pay Later allows customers to defer payments to a more convenient time, such as a date that aligns with their paycheck schedules
DoorDash customers in the United States can soon enjoy the added convenience of Klarna's seamlessly integrated flexible payment options while shopping from an extensive selection of stores on the DoorDash Marketplace. This partnership empowers customers with maximum choice and control over how they pay – from groceries and the season's big-ticket electronics to home improvement supplies, beauty, and even their DashPass Annual Plan membership.
David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer of Klarna said: "Our partnership with DoorDash marks an important milestone in Klarna's expansion into everyday spending categories. By offering smarter, more flexible payment solutions for groceries, takeout, and retail essentials, we're making convenience even more accessible for millions of Americans."

As we expand DoorDash's offerings—from groceries and beauty to electronics and gifts—flexible payment options are essential to meeting our customers' needs," said Anand Subbarayan, Head of Money Products at DoorDash. "We're excited to partner with Klarna to enhance the convenience we offer, including flexible payment options for our DashPass Annual Plan, the most affordable way to order on DoorDash with added streaming and ride benefits at no extra cost."

Can't wait to have Klarna-ready energy drink and burrito vending machines in my dystopian urban sprawl cyberpunk apartment!

awesome news finally can get me some cigs and bottles in without needing to wait for gyro day each month
gonna be living like a king combining this with me PS5 Pro on finance

This is how I've been ordering food for a long time in my country. Saves me the trouble of giving my card details to some shady pizzerias. We don't have tipping culture here so you just get the food and that's it. There's no additional fees or interest when you choose pay later. Here you have 30 days to fulfill the transaction.

I knew you would have posted in here 💪, my thinking aswell mate, love boshing my benefits on door delivery, overpriced bottles of cheap scotch and vodka to the door all on the tax payer, and now I can order more on finance that I will never pay off 💪.

We really are. Unfortunately, we're getting the shitty parts of Cyberpunk dystopia first: information wars, environmental collapse, shadowy cabals, and mass consumerism.

Where is all the cool cybernetic augmentation stuff? Transhuman in Cyberpunk meant you were a badass cyborg. Instead we get people with mental disorders.

As a non-american i have no idea why this is a big deal...
It's a wildly overpriced ripoff service. Instead of any kind of price correction, they're just enabling people to go into debt for something as basic as food, which should really never be bought on credit. If you can't already afford food, there's a serious problem somewhere.

Food delivery apps have more negative impacts than social networks. A cancerous service that promotes low skilled immigration, pushes salaries down, removes margins from restaurants, pollutes our cities, increases road traffic crashes and on top of it all, the average food they deliver is horrible for our public health. That they want to put a cherry on top of this, more private debt, is beyond preposterous.

Jesus… this sounds terrible. Financiing fast food has got to be the number 1 indicator you are doing something wrong. Does it apply to groceries too?

Fuck that is horrific.

Early 2000-2010s had all those pay day loan companies, Wonga etc.

These payment plan comapanies are the same as the pay day loan comapnies, just different names.

Oooh an opportunity for me to say "fuck Doordash" eh? Ok here we go.

I typically don't used DD. In fact hardly ever. But literally yesterday I was stuck home with a bad head cold. My wife's car was in the shop, so she borrowed mine to get to work because I was sick anyway. I wasn't in the mood to make something to eat. and I was craving a steak and cheese sub, so I decided what the hell. I'll have one delivered to me. I download DoorDash and pull up Jersey Mike's, which is a 5 minute drive from where I am. It was $13 for the sub, but the total came to $25. Delivery Fee, Dash Fee, Tip Fee, Buttfucking Fee. I asked my wife if this was normally and she said yup. How do people put up with this? I don't understand how these companies have grown so successful when you're paying nearly twice the amount you normally would, just for the convenience of delivery? It ain't THAT convenient.

Yes I understand the concept of why food delivery has it's uses, but imo it stops being convenient when delivery is costing you almost as much as the food itself. Fuck Door Dash.

Fucking hell, with the amount of fees and extras they charge on top too just go support your local place, go enjoy a quick drive to a local take out, there's really no need to be paying like 4x the price to get a burger from a place 10 miles away delivered.

In legal countries/states wouldn't it be handy to get your weed delivered with the Doordash order together to solve the munchies after? Have an account with ID checks etc.

Some of them are probably running drugs through Doordash so might as well do it right.

If you rack up a few hundred in these kind of food charges in a month. I don't see the downside of them all being financed interest-free and then hitting a buffer credit card account to offer some management of when to pay it. Free credit is never bad but insulate your bank account from surprises so your Klarna fast food payment doesn't hit the same morning as the hush money check.

Had it last night, 3 burgers, 1 large fries and 2 sodas + tax came up to close to $50~60

Shit's fucking expensive, yo.
I went to Subway and bought 3 sandwiches with chips and drinks and it was $50. And they wonder why they're struggling.

Yup, the fees are nuts. It's cheaper if you "subscribe" to the service, but you're still paying out the ass.
I work at a little breakfast joint, I'm blown away by how much delivery food we do, I've seen Togo sales over 3k on a Sunday before. Bet those sunny side up eggs and sausage gravy taste great when they get there after steaming in a to go box for 30/40 mins.

Same skills that require raw food being way more expensive than a ready dish?
If that's true then I'd argue that's the real dystopia.
Where I live food has also become considerably more expensive in recent years but it's still WAY cheaper to cook something at home than buy takeway or get it delivered.

Someone above said they ended up paying $25 for a sub from Jersey Mike's. You telling me you can't make a decent Sandwich at home for less than $25?

I think it's a mix of many things. Apathy/laziness, lack of skills to cook, accessibility to addictive food and an industry that still hasn't quite found a better solution how to provide take-away to customers.

Klarna has played a significant role regaring ordering multiple sneakers (sizes) Etc. Doordash? Seems a far more complicated matter. Holy Shit

My dentist told me yesterday if I spinned their wheel of fortune and got the right color they'd give me a discount on my orthodontics. I'm not sure what look I had on my face but they clearly were bracing for an explosive response vs me just saying "why not give me the damn discount anyway!?" Anywho, America!
