I mean, yeah, but they are doing a lot of self inflicted damage nowadays.
Honestly Sony isn't so far, which is surpising.

Halo was never on budget nor on time.As one of the replies said, the studio had not EARNED the right to be called Halo Studios.
If anything they should have been disbanded entirely and replaced by a new team. Renaming them Halo Studios has the same vibe as calling them "High quality on-budget on-time game studio".
Just because you give it a nice name doesn't fix anything. North Korea is called The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, but fat lot of good that name did for them.
I don’t think that true. The majority of the people are still there and there will be a work environment with various norms already established. Not that you can’t change that’s stuff if everyone is on-board. But it’s usually difficult.Everyone seems to think they should have shut the studio and made a new one instead. What exactly is the difference between doing that and changing all the people in the existing studio? Nothing but optics, which they tried to get with this dumb ass name change.
The name change is so people can stop saying 343i this and 343i that, with every new Halo release. It also indicates internally that this is a Halo focused studio to remove the idea of them doing anything else, or that Xbox could give the title to another internal studio. It's very smart actually. So yeah. 343i as a Halo development team is here to stay.Microsoft: *Fires the CEO, pushes out most of the executive teams, forces most of the dev team leads into redundancy, staffs up new development team, swaps out tech stack, re-names the studio*
NeoGAF: "Xbox confirms 343i is here to stay."
All the upper 343i management got fired, how many of the actual dev team is left is unknown. I have no idea if any of that influenced the games though, maybe it was “just” the people that have been let go, but I think there’s arguments for a clean slate in some cases.
Please god no. Just give me a simple story with a beginning a middle and an end. They need to create more pivotal story points for Halo, even if that means having a big cliffhanger moment.
Right now each game after feels like a TV show that doesn’t know if it’s going to get a new season, and then the next season is finally greenlit when the new season is already out.
It’s the type of thing that kills writing, because the writers become too scared to write for a show that might not be a trilogy or full series.
Just came in here wanted to say a failed studio in making Halo games (4, 5, Infinite) gets now "promoted" to a studio with that IPs name. But this seals the deal. I cant wait for the next years when this clownshow unfolds. Will be great entertainment, but not as a player who wants good games. But entertainment regardless.![]()
All the best
Then ppl can be deceived for a bit at least, here its more like 300lbs obese woman puts on skintight sexy dress and every1 pretends it made a difference and she actually does look good nowIs changing the name supposed to be like when an ugly girl puts on makeup.
…Then expect them to keep attempting to make games with stories that don’t quite go anywhere significant because that’s what you’re going to get:Please god no. Just give me a simple story with a beginning a middle and an end.
They're the main Halo development studio, their name is Halo studio now. How are they "dead"? If 343i is "dead", they would shift Infinite support team and close the studio and announce a new development studio. They could announce 343i as a support studio. All the upper 343i management got fired, how many of the actual dev team is left is unknown. The name has been changed.
They couldn't completely close the studio as Infinite needed ongoing support. 343i is about as dead as you can get.
For fear of repeating myself, they fired all the management, likely gutted the dev team, the video they just posted seem like a recruitment ad more than anything and changed the name. Seems like a complete reboot to me with the least amount of disruption. They're the main Halo development studio, their name is Halo studio now. How are they "dead"? My issue with 343i is they attempted to do what you are saying but never followed through. If we get cliff hangers on the scale of Halo 2 the great but i'd like to see a conclusion please. We will likely not get anything more on Atriox for example.…Then expect them to keep attempting to make games with stories that don’t quite go anywhere significant because that’s what you’re going to get:
Chief lands on a Halo or planet, he fights aliens and wins, and learns a few new bits of lore along the way, roll credits.
Why?As a Playstation fan I say it sucks that Xbox is doing so bad. Arrogant Sony needs competition
Nah the PC space is completely different to consoles, its healthy to have a direct competitor. Right now Sony seems to have the living room all to its self, mostly. Why?
PC instantly replaced Xbox.

Logo is fucking terrible and likely signals another teen focus for the Halo series. FFS.Logo looks like Lego bricks.
They never followed through because of what I pointed out in my first post. How can a writer follow through with anything when the dev team and the franchise itself is on constant shaky ground? My issue with 343i is they attempted to do what you are saying but never followed through.
We won’t because they are doing exactly what you’re wanting, giving us a simple story with a simple conclusion and small sprinkles of lore along the way. For the audience who cares, it is not sustainable. If we get cliff hangers on the scale of Halo 2 the great but i'd like to see a conclusion please. Here's the thing though:In a way PC and Switch are partial opposition to PlayStation.
However Xbox was full competition to PlayStation (at least in the 360 days anyway).
Back then once you knew you wanted a home console (as opposed to a computer or handheld), you’d then decide whether to go with PlayStation or Xbox.
Now if, and increasingly in the next few years, if you decide you want a home console the only choice is PlayStation.
Here's the thing though:
Xbox never actually was much competition. It was just make-believe for some Xbox fans and 'platform-agnostics' after Sony fumbled with PS3 early on.
Like I said, make-believe.For me Xbox 360 was my main console from 2006 to 2010.
They were certainly competition back then.
I think he is saying that because out of 4 generations, Xbox only competed in one, and still lost that gen in third place at the end of it’s run.For me Xbox 360 was my main console from 2006 to 2010.

Maybe in your head. I played more on the 360 than my PS3 for a good few years. Here's the thing though:

There are probably also people that played more on WiiU than on other platforms.Maybe in your head. I played more on the 360 than my PS3 for a good few years.
NoIf I change my name to Ryan Reynolds does that mean I'm good looking now?
Unlikely. There are probably also people that played more on WiiU than on other systems.
It’s why I’ve said before that I’ll always look at the Xbox 360 as that one athlete in a sport who had a great run one season and captivated an audience, but never actually won the championship.Oh yeah looking back as a whole PS3 was better, but for those first few years I was getting more enjoyment out of 360.
E3 2009 with all the Project Natal bullshit and a lack of great exclusives was the start of the decline for me.
So they'll release one more flop and they're gone for good.![]()
All the best
Yeah that's all well and good but let's get into Xer true strengths:![]()
All the best
Man with that kind of laser-like focus on first-person game design she'll probably code up a sick prototype in a matter of weeks with crisp gunplay and addicting gameplay loops like we've never seen!![]()

Melissa joined Xbox Research in the summer of 2015. After earning her BA in psychology from Spelman College in 2008, Melissa went on to complete her PhD in social psychology and public health from Columbia University. Her research in public health focused on how people’s social interactions influenced their risk for HIV and substance abuse – particularly with African Americans and Latinx folks, LGBTQ+ people, and women – but also how these people’s personal resilience could be developed and supported to help them avoid poor health outcomes.
Melissa did a stint conducting market research in video games – which was so much fun it inspired her to make the leap to the games world. Currently, Melissa manages research across several Xbox franchises and experiences, including Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, Double Fine Studios, and the Xbox Store. She also leads research in diversity, inclusion, and accessibility across Xbox’s games and experiences, with a focus on making Xbox a place where everyone has fun!
In her free time, Melissa enjoys games of all kinds – video, board, card, and tabletop. When she’s not mashing buttons, bidding 5 and a possible, or traipsing through the Forbidden Realms, you can find her curled up on a rainy Seattle morning reading fantasy or speculative fiction (or anything, really); listening to music; or out enjoying the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.
