Absolum announced - a promising side scrolling brawler from Dotemu, makers of Streets of Rage 4

I'm curious how much of the SOR4 team is working on this... that was Lizardcube's baby, and they're not on this one. Art style is a little cartoony for me in the cut scenes, but in-game looks pretty good.

But.

And, I really cannot stress this enough:

I DO NOT WANT A FUCKING ROGUELIKE

Did some googling and it seems like Jordi Asienso of Guard Crush Games is the designer and he was lead on Streets of Rage 4 as well. But yeah Lizardcube isn't doing anything here, they're on Shinobi now (can't wait!)

I still don't get indie devs obsession with rogulelite……for me it such a unfun genre.
Imo they can be fun if done right, but at the same time there's so many of them that it's easy to feel a bit tired of them.

My guess is that they do it to increase the game's length

Yeah it's like playing old arcade games when you're out of coins. The further you come the harder you want to punch the screen at death. I hate the genre with wild passion tbh.

It has a certain charm and I'm interested as I kinda like the genre, but man, I really don't like this "Flash animation" style of aesthetic that is getting so popular in recent years.

really my biggest gripe with SOR 4. There's a paper like quality to flash type aesthetic.
No volume at all unlike with old 2D sprites

Vector art is in a cheap sweet spot. Pixel art style is more time consuming and expensive, if you have shading and detail to the level of Dragon's Crown the cost balloons.
